An architectural graduate from Gujarat university, India with the capability to meander across myriad of scales with 5 years + experience in the design industry in a variety of roles as an architect across various cities of west and south India, who is constantly striving into the search of the unknown by collaborating with like minded people. My thoughts processes and values I believe in are defined by the intensity and the depth of involvement in what I do. Being a recipient of accolades and honors on international and national platforms pushes me to persistently explore new dimensions of design, which led to my involvement with ETH Zürich into the Future of Cities via a series of courses and attending the leplastier/stutchurbury masterclass in IIM-B.

India undergoing a major transformation has created multitude of opportunities to re-look, rethink & re-approach the way we inhabit and grow, Rediscovering its own contemporary identity learning and growing out of its rich and glorious past while still being rooted into its own self. When dense ink is melted into water, it becomes highly flexible and unpredictable. Architecture is in a constant metamorphosis in an overall context today, and as I see and believe in, is a means to visualize the genus loci (spirit of place) and our role is to create meaningful places, whereby helping man to dwell. I firmly believe in the power of architecture to move us and transcend our lives in every respect. This portfolio is an expression of my experiments and critical view to contemporary architecture and urban design in India through my journey of both academic and professional experiences, attempting to seek new possibilities of approaches to variety of scales in architecture and urban design through avant garde interpretations.

INDIAN INSTITUTE OF INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY, DESIGN AND MANUFACTURING - KURNOOL Project Location : Kurnool, Andhra Pradesh Client : MHRD, Government Of India Scope : Masterplanning, Architecture Site Area : 151.5 Acres

The Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIIT) are national institutes of higher engineering education and research of excellence fully owned by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government Of India. These institutes are recognized as premier institutions of excellence in design and manufacturing that aim to create and develop a new generation of engineers and technologists with the ability and mindset to lead Indian industries in the globally competitive economic environment. IIITDM, Kurnool established in 2015, envisaged developing its academic campus in 151.5 acres of land allotted by Government of Andhra Pradesh and invited entries for the campus masterplan and architectural design to propose a state of the art permanent campus near village dinnedevarapadu on the outskirts of the city of kurnool. Kurnool city sits in a region which primarily comprises of a variety of natural rock systems and falls into the cuddapah basin. The site is influenced by its context and is juxtaposed within these ancient paleolithic rock formations comprising of conglomerate sections which are historically significant in the territorial evolution of the region. Presence of ancient caves which dates back to 4500 BC in the surrounding vicinity also makes it contextually stronger and challenging. The geomorphology of the site comprises of undulating terrain creating several local ridges and depressions. The maximum relief is 85 m.

AN URBAN RESPONSE

NATURAL SETTINGS | TECTONICS | ESSENCE OF THE PLACE

“An Institution that takes nature as a source of inspiration, reinterpreted in different ways and unusual path breaking paradigms. The idea here is to preserve the essence of the tectonics and respecting the lands natural character. A case of space appropriated through events and produced over time, in sync with evolution. Erosion process as a metaphor for natural growth pattern, encouraging students to innovate and collaborate in a multi-layered environment. It seeks to revive the spirit of this institution as a center of learning, dialogue and rationality. Hence, an urban response which is transmitted through architecture, deriving a new way of collective participation.” GENERATING LINES FROM THE STALACTITES

Stalactites form naturally over a period when percolated rainwater dissolves limestone, gradually projecting out in open caves with interesting geometrical forms. These formations are a common geomorphological character of the region providing natural setting for the project site. The process involved metamorphosis of natural formations as stalactites found in nature into abstract means and, mediums which form the core and essence of the conceptual process and a backdrop for the master planning as well as an architectural design intent.

STUDENT HOSTELS

SECTION ACROSS HOSTELS

The masterplan proposes to take stewardship of natural resources by creating a sustainable,user-centric and a self-sustaining campus. It focuses on of creating collaborative spaces in coherence with the surrounding region with a contemporary response. This sensitive approach leads to minimum disruption to the natural site features and acts as a binding element which strengthens the dynamics of the site and creates an engaging built environment. The predominant valleys become natural visual and experiential corridors which help students be in tandem with the phenomenology of the space. The proposed masterplan extends its uniqueness with a strong belief in the idea of campus as a living lab and learning as a process which occurs in impromptu encounter amongst faculty and peers. The academic zone through a series of inter-weaved shared paths creates interstitial spaces for connectivity at various planes. The axial placement of campus Streets forms the main pedestrian spine, which opens out into a plaza along which the academic buildings are designed, creating semi-open spaces and activity hubs. Interstitial spaces overlap in the form of corridors, balconies, courtyards and plazas. These transitory spaces between the internal and external environment, facilitate interaction among students.

HOTEL ATTIDE, BENGALURU DESIGN CONCEPT - DYNAMICS OF URBANITY, TRANSFORMATION AND CONTINUITY

Attide Hotel situated near Jakkur air base in Bangalore aims at offering guests a unique experience of quality in hospitality. The seamless contiguity of architecture and interiors has driven the design together with a careful analysis of the hotel management which sets itself apart as a contemporary response to an adaptive reuse of an existing structure previously built for commercial purposes. Due to its close proximity between the city and the international airport along the highway, the design focuses on borrowing the dynamic character of the context it is set in and the green-city vocation of Bangalore. To create an impactful connection on both levels the architecture responds as portals which interact with the flyover as an urban lamp and the users of the hotel as a welcoming portal into the hotel. The design intends to establish a subtle interaction with the building on the outside and cater to the dynamicity it offers in its response to the interior design. The fluidity of lines and spaces welcomes the guest since the entrance in a seamless path till the restaurant, across the reception, the lift lobby and the cafeteria. Movement and transition along this path gives an urban character, a sort of an indoor promenade, publicizing the space and instigating an interaction.
