Board of Commissioners Letter
Dear Neighbors,
One of the first highlights of 2021 was receiving Illinois Distinguished Accredited Agency status from the Illinois Association of Park Districts and Illinois Parks & Recreation Association. The qualifications to receive this status are vigorous. In the field of Parks and Recreation, this is our Grammy, this is our Olympic Medal. We are thrilled to share this recognition with you and to utilize honed practices to further improve our quality of services to the Deerfield community. The Deerfield Park District also debuted a refreshed logo family in January. Logos were updated to showcase services through a unified brand with five coordinated logos including the Park District, Deerfield Golf Club, FORE Restaurant, Patty Turner Center and Sachs Recreation Center. After School Club has returned to all District 109 elementary schools now that in-person instruction has resumed. We are happy to be able to provide this programming in partnership with the schools, coinciding with their current curriculum schedule. Virtual programs were new to our district a year ago due to indoor restrictions and safety concerns, but we now label them as bonus programming that allows additional accommodations for you to choose how, when and where you want to recreate. Having an All Access Membership pass at the Sachs Recreation Center that allows access for in-person programming as well as online options provides a more flexible schedule that may be just the right fit for you. Another new district feature is a partnership with RUSH Physical Therapy, now open within the Sachs Recreation Center. They have highly trained clinicians that are devoted to achieving each patient’s goals and ultimately improving your quality of life. Please call 224-285-1004 to learn more about their services. The groundhog seeing his shadow is not a foolproof method of knowing when spring temperatures will arrive, but here at the Park District, we plan for spring programs, events and facility openings regardless of the temperatures outdoors. Weather dependent, we hope to have folks out at the Deerfield Golf Club in March (fingers crossed). While you await the opening of the course, you can register now to secure a weekend permanent tee-time as there are still a few time slots available. Looking for a way to improve the environment and beautify your yard? On April 22 join us at the Patty Turner Center as we partner with Red’s Garden Center of Northbrook to host a Native Plant Sale. A wide variety of indigenous plants will be featured and available for sale at this outdoor, community-wide event. And as you plan early for spring, summer and fall get-togethers, consider renting a pavilion at one of the Deerfield Parks. Group size will depend on current local and state guidelines. Rentals can be secured at deerfieldparks.org beginning March 1 for residents and April 1 for nonresidents. We look forward to getting back outside and hosting you at the Deerfield Parks, facilities and amenities throughout the community. Stay safe and be well.
Deerfield Park District is a municipal governing agency established to provide parks, recreation facilities and programs for residents. Five elected commissioners govern the district and set general policies. Regular meetings of the Board of Park Commissioners are held at JPCC at 7 PM on the third Thursday of each month. Virtual meetings may be held when in person public meetings are deemed not safe or practical. The public is welcome to attend. Schedule changes are posted at JPCC and here.
