Packaging for citrus
This packaging for citrus was made as a project for a packaging competition of Valencia, Spain. It has been selected as finalist for the SICE’s company. The author, Jordi Iranzo, is studying design product at the School of Art and Design in Valencia (EASD). The packaging allows the ventilation of the fruit and don’t allow the extraction of any piece, as the briefing indicate. So, once purchased the product, has a folding handle for easy transport. These handles also make the upper cover, preventing the fruit leaving the container. One advantage is that this package has a slit in one of the handles to be hung on the wall. The overture located in one of its main faces, allows the extraction of citrus. This method ensures that the container does not take up space on a table or on the countertop. Once empty, it use to store other types of fruit, and you can even go shopping with him. Here we show you the publication of the cluster’s competition, where appear some finalist. Create Decorate Live
Human beings are central to the environment in which they live and this environment can influence their feelings and actions. An interior of any kind, private or public - museum, hospital, office, airport, station - permanent or temporary, is always a complexity of elements that contribute to the quality of private life and human relationships. In recent years the design of interior space has acquired a fundamental role in defining the functional and cultural quality of contemporary cities. The dimension of space and furnishing elements, the technical and expressive management of light, of colour, of sound and micro-climate are the elements that an interior designer have to shape and compose today. Such necessities change rapidly and often call for innovative, flexible environmental products. The fair imm Cologne in Germany, the first international show and a highlight for the furniture and interior design sector, is about to close its doors on the 20th of January 2013. Here each year the major brands and trend-setters from all over the world present their new products and concepts to visitors personally. The new event LivingInteriors is where
complete worlds of interior design are created and presented. Designed as a life style event it aims to respond to the new emphasis on the holistic home interior and to the development of the market. In these installations besides furnishing, products from the bathroom, flooring, wallcovering and lighting segments are presented within the overall context of home interiors. This year imm cologne chose the award-winning industrial designer Luca Nichetto from Italy as the guest of honor to fulfill his vision of home in the project “Das Haus (The House)- Interiors on Stage 2013”, which has been designed using natural materials and colors and provide the setting for the furnishings and a collection of products most of which are his own designs. According to design-thought leader David Carlson, Nichetto compares his “Das Haus” with a small planet where the living room becomes as important as the Amazon rainforest is for the Earth, due to his interest in sustainable design. This is exactly where Nichetto starts designing his “Das Haus” from – a house that is almost entirely made up of semienclosed walls and large windows, so as to emphasize the concept of merging the “inside” with the “outside”. That
is nature entering the home. The living room, located in the centre of the house, is the “green heart” of “Das Haus”. All the other rooms are connected with this “heart” that turns the house into a totally eco-friendly environment. Here the entire living area is surrounded by the nature, which marks off the space by becoming the wall. A selection of plants, designed to best suit each environment, was made to fill the various rooms with its invigorating presence. As Luca Nichetto says, “I wanted to be able to create the atmosphere of connection to nature while fostering a sense of intimacy at the same time. I want to live in a modern home, but I also want to feel at home”. Lastly, designing an interior means starting with the outer shell and working within it, operating not only on its furnishing systems and settings, but also on the entire range of components that make space culturally and functionally inhabitable. Here the challenge is to direct and co-ordinate the design of space and its functions, as well as the relationship between space and user. Therefore, we need designers who are able to critically and creatively interpret new social and individual needs that occur in the great universe of internal (and external) space in contemporary cities. This instrument might appear hi-tech but it’s not quite - it’s pure DIY - carefully designed and patiently handcrafted in a garage workshop. It involved lots of prototyping and required me to learn a lot as the project progressed, so the entire process of creating this bass had spanned over a period of almost four years - an adventure I wasn’t even expecting.

Dreams
Dreams passant, prisons of the senses and desires, passage of the mind, despots of human bonds, lords of the emotions others exult through blessing, others upset through criticizing. Others again disappoint aching. Others, finally empower by giving hope. Great your strength is .....
Journey
Dreaming of a long journey. An endless trip. Right out from the world of fantasy. No agencies and shots Full of surprises. Without baggage. With my thoughts as the ticket. In virgin places with no people...
Conductor
I am the conductor of the cloud. The conductor of the dream. My life is a train. My experiences the empty cars of the train. But where did the people go; Everybody disembarked? Where did they vanish; The convoy with the passengers. The farewell at the dock. A handkerchief is shaken somewhere failing...
Visions
I like to close my eyes for long, not fleeting as when dazzled in bright light, something bothers you for such a long time I say. For so I see better and sharper I see visions...
Anguish The suffering is part of the human. The human part of the suffering. Anguish. Little word. Profound. Other times creative. Other unpleasant. Always painful. The suffering bonds the human. Humanity is its subset. Sometimes and substitute. Rarely distances itself. Pain is its child. Sorrow is its sister. Unruly and rebellious. Sound like the sand, wet like the sea. Anguish. Midas its riches. Food of the mind. Great weakness of the heart, like summer moonlight. It is getting dark ...darkness is the secret ally, companion, brother. Catalyst of the thoughts, desires, longings, sorrows. Great philosopher, the darkness. Faithful adviser and confessor.
The depths
...is there where you meet with yourself. The current and ancestral, the eternal. There, like in a mirror, gazing at your idol to teasingly play at the flickering of the deep blue. As the sunrays recycle to the distant planets, unable to reach them in whole but only sporadically illuminating...

Theatro ston kivo

“Theatro ston kivo” (theatre in a cube)… a black box, which was born with the strength to create history. The theatre’s philosophy, in contrast to the political direction of inertia of the mind, expression and creativity which are imposed upon us, is to offer to those who love the art of dance, the opportunity to retain action of mind, spirit and body, by maintaining low prices aimed at covering the running expenses with complete professionalism. It is a welcoming space which, beyond the cycle of classes and seminars, opens its doors to creativity. The first cycle of classes began dynamically filling the atmosphere with energy. The program consists of Contemporary, Ballet and Barre a terre, Combination techniques, Choreography, Physical training, Yoga, Pilates and
Reiki sessions. Our wish is for the new season is that the “Theatro ston kivo”… will be able to offer even more classes in dance, theatre and alternative therapy. The classes are given by professional teachers, who following this ideology, and, in their turn, offer their own “side and corner” to the harmony and dynamics of the “cube”. Lambros Fatsis (Boulevard Soundsystem)
Spinning theories out of sounds
I would feel rather bad talking about myself
in third person narrative, not (just) because I would feel like an unspecified entity; a product even, but because I fear (and loathe?) self-aggrandisement. When approached by Neu Tymes to write a little something about who I am and what I do (aren’t they one and the same?), I thought it wise(r) to tell my story as a person that is a person of sounds, as the Latin root of the word person (per son) gracefully invites us to do. I have three obsessions; sounds, sociology and soundsystems and it took a great deal of listening before I could sound them out convincingly for myself and others. Growing up in a country saturated with the sounds of cicadas, the sing-song of street merchants advertising their wares and hissing entreaties, Byzantine psalms sung in church, pompous populist political speeches delivered in public, roaring protest rhymes composed on the move, and the ubiquitous honk of car horns (yes, this is Greece!), I found an interest in studying glottal stops, clicks, phonetic variations while investigating the role of music as an instrument and conductor of socio-cultural norms and forms, all that through a joint degree in Linguistics and Sociology, which then became a Masters and a stillborn PhD in Sociology. Nothing could have prepared me however for the profound impression that another sound would have on me; the sound of bass as something three-dimensional, all-rounded, warm, ‘fat’ and quaky enough to make your spine vibrate and your drink dance in its own glass. I’m referring of course to the bass frequencies as emitted by the mega-wattage speakers of the Jamaican soundsystems I
encountered in the UK upon my arrival. Leaving my drink and my company aside, I rushed to see what that record was turning out to be Kojak and Lisa’s ‘Fist to Fist Rub-a-Dub’ on the Joe Gibbs label. I took a mental note of it and since then I’ve been living inside the dimensions of that sound! That’s how Boulevard Soundsystem started in 2005, initially as a club night (Boulevard) in North Wales with the intention of bringing together the traffic of black diasporic urban musics (jazz, funk, soul, latin boogaloo, afrobeat, highlife, kwela calypso, ska, rocksteady, roots, dancehall and hip hop) but then surrendering to the Jamaican side of things, hence the soundsystem postfix to my DJ alias. Three years later, I earned myself a residency (Rudy Tuesdays) at what is probably the best bar/club Athens has known (the legendary Bar Guru Bar) which felt like not being very far from the venues of South London, Angel and Old Street that I was accustomed to while in London, but with an extra lustre of chic added to the mix. That’s where I met selectress supreme Anna Mystic, probably the most serious person in the sound business, and we turned our musical romance into a collaboration which found us playing together initially at the European Music Day and then in (the) most unusual places with the aim of making the music we love available, relevant and enjoyable to people who aren’t reggae fans. That attitude still remains my main principle in doing what I do musically by the way! During that time, we flew extremely gifted British reggae MCs, chatters, bubblers over to Athens (Ras Styler, Champian, MC Trooper and Brother Culture) to give ourselves and the crowd a slice
of how that music is being played properly. In the meantime, I found myself holding residencies elsewhere (Belafonte, huge) where I cut, mix and blend a wide variety of Jamaican music in a seamless fashion until I came back to the UK to take up my position as a doctoral student of and an associate tutor in Sociology at the University of Sussex where I seek to make the link between social theory and sounds unproblematic and rather helpful for the enrichment of ‘how we do sociology’, by shifting the focus from speaking to listening as a different mode of making sense of each other, showing how soundsystem practices are in fact exemplary as a mode of social, cultural exchange and an extremely effective and affective political medium too which appeals to our humanity as an embodied democracy of the senses. This is where the ‘spinning theories out of sounds’ bit comes into play but speaking of playing, coming back to the UK (currently living in Brighton, well, Hove actually!) was a true blessing musically! I met up with Serocee (who I had previously worked with in Greece) and started the ‘Reggae Bombing’ night which was later given extra volume and weight with the inclusion of DJ Cut La Vis, while having the opportunity to showcase what I do with a host of brilliant MCs such as MC Ishu and Brother Culture finding myself on the same line-up with people like Prince Fatty, Richie Phoe and Roots Garden records. Speaking of which, I was invited twice as a guest to their radio show which is always a sheer delight to do as I get the chance to play a strictly roots and culture selection there, while I am currently holding a weekly residency (Reggae Tunesdays) at
Brighton’s No.1 all-Caribbean venue, Riki Tik, playing an all-vinyl selection of Jamaican music. Amid all this activity, really it’s just servicing a compulsion more than anything else, I am editing the Sociologists of Crisis series at the Sociological Imagination blog, teaching sociology to 1st and 3rd year undergraduate students, but where it all gels together I suppose is at my weekly radio show at radiobubble.gr, now at its fourth year (Fridays, 9-10pm) where I host an all-vinyl broadcast which addresses a different theme each week, all related to Jamaican music and culture. Incessant chattering aside, the morale of this personal story is that the art but mostly the act of listening can be heard as a celebration of the human experience through sounds, and the rewards it brings hover between thinking and doing, reason and grace, necessity and virtue; values that are essential for making sense of our humanity without doing injustice to others, in itself a vital component of citizenship and good action. And what the Jamaican musical paradigm shows us, is that for all this to happen we need to humanise ourselves and what we do by grounded experience, live and direct mediated through modes, sounds and frequencies that invite us to full and open participation, thus making no concessions to cheaper, compressed, computed versions of ourselves.
