efeated Mag&zine is a one-theme issue for young photography. We want the artists to express themselves, not only showing what they do but also the story within the photograph. The issue searchs for the poetry behind the shot. By proposing a topic we encourage the artists to relate their work to a subject supported by few words of their own. A walk down the city streets...

Streets can take you to places inside yourself. You will wander the cities to get to your deepest thoughts or to forget the sorrow. 21 young running through the streets with passion.

“The cityspace is a passion. Denisa Tkačíková Czech Republic

“A suburb stacked vertically may contain a multitude of people

but be almost devoid of photographic inspiration. In these areas, you have to climb steps and take elevators, peer out windows and stand on rooftop ledges to get a good lay of the land. Even then, what occurs most is disgust and disappointment. But when you round the corner on the twelfth floor and look through the stained window, you might glimpse the odd moment of transcendence. Devin M. Jones Anyang

“ London. September 2009.

It’s officially a seasonal routine that every year on this month, my stomach is in knots. 14th Floor. The unpleasant circumstances caused that the only window to the world is literally “this window”. A result of restless nights, filled with chain smoking and detailed observation of the so far unknown, peculiar perspective of London town. Magdalena Krzeslak London

BOUT ADRIAN

Who are you? 25 year old, quiet, skinny, married (yes, that early), nihilist dude.

Where do you come from? Where are you now? Where are you going? I’m from tiny town in western Poland. Now looking into woods through windows in my suburban flat. I’m not excluding moving directly into the woods as I don’t like people (despite photographing them mostly).

Which cameras you shoot with? My first choice cam now is medium format Kiev 60, those visible in this issue were taken with 35mm Nikon EM. Been through couple of Zenit slr’s.

What is behind your images? I’m not spending to much time on particular frame. I like to believe I found image which is hard to mess up. Like to see when pictures appears naturally. I don’t want to pretend there’s a magical story behind it as I think it’s kind of, for muppets. Plainness, simplicity is that thing.

What else would you do if you couldn’t take photographs? Crane operator I hope. Seems like fun.

Why photography? I guess I’ve agreed with myself I’m not that bad at it.

Do you see the picture before or after looking through the lens? Before. Yes. It’s the reason I’m snapping it.

What color are you? Blue jeans, black leather.

Something you shoud have said to someone but you never did? Thank you.

An image that moves/inspires you. A photo taken by Francesc Catala-Roca in Barcelona in 50’s.

A song, a movie, a book A Song: The Doors – The End A Movie: Stranger Than Paradise (1984) - Jim Jarmush A Book: Christopher Hitchens – God Is Not Great

Have you ever been defeated? What happened? Not in a way I consider vital.

How do you relate your photographs to our issue topic? it’s not representing a very nice place or thing. “Actually You can see second world war architecture (or earlier)

mixed up with 60s and 70s not quite perfect architecture from Polish People’s Republic period. What I hope it shows also is that there are times when light makes it up for you and these buildings, streets somehow come up as not such a brutal sight or even notable image.

“I'm into cruising around the streets

with my skateboard and a loaded camera, these are some shots from my everyday life...

“ Sometimes when Mrs Depression knocks at the door, one has nothing else to do but to run away. When this happens for me, I choose the streets. Gabriele Liaudanskaite Kėdainiai

“ The cold heavy wind from the day before,

it's hours spent indoors watching films at the cinema, had dispersed. A new day sun held promises of spring. People skating on the canal, cycling in spite of the ice laden bricks under their wheels. This day I walked, took pictures and sat watching the sun shape, the shades of light and dark on a bench in this unfamiliar city known as Amsterdam. Mats Andreas Nielsen Oslo & Amsterdam (both)
