The Void is when what we want is not where we look.

Sometimes I ask myself if the emptiness is in the picture or in the eyes of the one that takes them.
I tried to go into the city, to explore abandoned houses people left and old buildings from a sad past; not as a reminder, but more as an embrace to that period, Beirut is calmer than I imagined. All those dilapidated buildings and corners bring memories... Nostalgic memories in a strange way; I kept a distance from drama and clichĂŠs of a beautiful city, people are not present here but their existence is always solid.

The void is a lonely place.

When she was leaving, my feelings were making echos in the empty room. No touch to make it real. There were just some words, but without meaning. Emptiness is what is left when you can't do anything to repair what is broken, to make fears go away, to save us from nothingness. My love has no home. That void cannot be filled.

WHO ARE YOU? My name is Nicolás Okseniuk. WHERE DO YOU COME FROM? WHERE ARE YOU NOW? WHERE ARE YOU GOING? I come from Buenos Aires, Argentina. I am still there and I don’t know where I am going. WHICH CAMERAS YOU SHOOT WITH? I use a Nikon N90 and N70, whichare SLR film cameras. I also use digital for works. WHAT IS BEHIND YOUR IMAGES? Nothing. Or the imagination of the viewer. WHAT ELSE WOULD YOU DO IF YOU COULDN’T TAKE PHOTOGRAPHS? I am also interested in cinema and writing. DO YOU SEE THE PICTURE BEFORE OR AFTER LOOKING THROUGH THE LENS?
Strictly speaking, after. WHY PHOTOGRAPHY? Because I enjoy it. HOW DO YOU THINK
YOUR
IMAGES
REPRESENT
ISSUE TOPIC?
THE
The images show spaces without living beings. Sometimes a solitary human or animal blended with the landscape. I think the images reflect a poetic and emotional dimension, some kind of mystery which relates the vertigo of infinity to the seductive stillness of nothingness. SOMETHING YOU SHOULD
HAVE SAID TO SOMEONE BUT YOU NEVER DID?
“No.” WHAT COLOR ARE YOU? “Middle Grey” A SONG, A MOVIE, A BOOK: AN IMAGE THAT MOVES OR INSPIRES YOU? River Euphrates by Pixies, The lady vanishes by Alfred Hitchcock and Cicatrices by Juan José Saer. HAVE YOU EVER BEEN DEFEATED? WHAT HAPPENED? Yes, I have. I can’t remember what happened, something bad, probably.
Kate Curry Austin, Texas
There is something magical about feeling a void, an emptiness, a hole. The hunger left by a void is inspiration. This void is crucial because it perpetuates curiosity. I try to convey the beauty of emptiness in some of my photographs.
I am living in a void house.

I could've stayed out there for hours, nobody around, cold hands, broken car, no food, smiling bright.

I've selected these images because they seem to be about nothing. They are missing a subject. In some cases they are simply amorphis wholes or else there is a gap where the eye has been lead to expect something in particular. The absence of a subject in these images gives an opportunity though. This is to allow the viewer to fill in for the subject if they wish. The image can then be a space to experience inside of. It is what the viewer creatively senses that makes the story.
Scott McFadyen Vancouver, BC
The void: the space that someone used to occupy; the emptiness I felt once they left. That feeling of absence appeared in front of me for the first time just because they weren't there anymore: the gap between me and the rest of my world. Or maybe this void was something that has always been inside me and these people just showed me its existence.
Claudia Arag贸n Barcelona, Spain
We drive around the peninsula for hours, the jolting of the van on potholed gravel road intensifies the ringing in my ears, but we say nothing. Contemplating these desolate places, our eyes capture the remains, what has been left to dust. I can hear no more. The wind crashing; a hundred cymbals out of sync, shattering my thoughts. I long for silence, to recover the soundless landscape I have lost.

Having no force or effect; lacking. Silent conversations in empty spaces. Transparent faces. Blank lands. Shadows of former existence. Nothingness. It's breathtaking.
