“Porto Cervo is always in my dreams. It’s where I go to seek peace and inspiration, amidst the lush emerald flora in which ancient orange-pink Sardinian granite has been sculpted into sensually undulating shapes by the wind. Even before reaching the marina on my boat, I revel in the intense fragrance wafting across from the Mediterranean maquis. I love the company of people as beautiful as the scenery, knowing that all around there are secret places accessible only by boat where I can wind down and recharge.”
“I love Porto Cervo! People are even more beautiful when they are immersed in a stunning natural setting.”
Seductive, sculptural, sensual

Prince Karim Aga Khan IV shaped Porto Cervo with a gentle hand and rock-solid vision. After buying 1,800 hectares of wild, abandoned land in the early 1960s, his architects combined inspiration from nature with north African, Spanish and Greek influences to create the “portocervino” style, organic, imaginative, at one with the surroundings. Porto Cervo – whose name recalls the deer-shape of the natural harbour – is the perfect stage on which stars of international glamour enjoy the Italian laidback cool vibe.

“Ibiza and Formentera, they are like the perfect couple, and that’s why I adore them. So different, yet complementary, a match made in heaven. Ibiza is where I go to party, to rock with the beat that starts at sunset and ends at sunrise, enjoying the freedom inherited from its hippie culture. The visitors who arrive every summer include the world’s top DJs who keep Ibiza rocking until 6 in the morning. Nonetheless I know that wherever I am, there is a beach – one of the 57 - not more than an hour’s drive away. And when I feel the need to really slow down, I take a boat to Formentera to reconnect with nature on some of the most beautiful beaches in the world.”
The beat of summer Ibiza is a clubber’s paradise, but it has a quieter side as well. It is also a UNESCO World Heritage site for its architecture and coastline, with secluded coves, tiny inland villages and whitewashed churches.
Like rays of sun, “Raggiante by de GRISOGONO” evoke the sun shining on the beaches of Formentera. Express your inner sunshine and free your mind wearing one of the beautiful pieces of this collection.

It is an island of colour: its soil has a padparadscha-orange hue created by the pine-needles that release their tannins into the ground when they fall. And the water around the island is crystal-clear in part by virtue of the Neptune grass, a seaweed with a purifying effect.

Where to stay Hard Rock Hotel Ibiza, a luxurious boutique hotel at Sant Jordi de Ses Salines, on one of the island’s coolest places, with an exclusive private beach. Rent the spectacular designer villa named Villa Lentisco on Formentera, with its cool, geometrical minimalism and a gigantic pool.
Ibiza’s Can Marca caves play host to a music and light show, with the ancient pools lit in eerie colours. The island of Es Vedrà is shrouded in legend. Uninhabited and unvisitable, it has been identified as the home of Ulysses’ sirens, the source of the stone used for the great Pyramids in Egypt, the tip of sunken Atlantis, and a focus for UFOs visiting our planet.
Where to eat and drink • Cave raves have become part of Ibiza’s legends, with parties held within vast cavities somewhere in a sheltered bay on the west coast. Ask around… • Platja de ses Illetes, Platja de Llevant and Platja de Migjorn on Formentera are three of the most idyllic beaches of the Med. • Figueretas, a waterfront promenade south of Ibiza town. • Experimental Beach on Cap des Falcó, Ibiza, run by Paris’ Experimental Group, is a cool hang-out, a beach club without a real beach, but with superb food, cocktails and DJ entertainment. • The salt flats on Ibiza, incredible colours.

Nearby, dinner at La Paloma, San Lorenzo, with tables in the gardens and fantastic food well into the night, is a favourite. “I love Marbella for its sun and beaches, but also for its Andalusian small-town historic centre, with its cobbled streets and flowerfilled plazas around the lovely Plaza de los Naranjos and its fabled orange trees. Puerto Banús is a complete contrast with its clubs and nightlife, and the marina that gives me a base from which to explore the surroundings on my yacht. I can even get a shot of culture in nearby Malaga, with the Picasso Museum, the Carmen Thyssen, the Centre Pompidou, the Santiago Hermitage, the CAC Museum of Modern Art. Not to mention Granada and the Alhambra. But more than anything, Marbella to me is gold, the gold of the wide, long beaches, with their chiringuitos, champagne, DJ sets, and an infinity of human beauty.”

“I feel at home with the English language, not so much with English food, and so Malta has reached perfection now that its Anglo inheritance – red letter boxes – has now been supplanted by superb restaurants offering Mediterranean cuisine. The Brits were the last in a long series of visitors, including Phoenicians, Carthaginians, Romans, Byzantines, Normans, and Napoleon, not to mention St. Paul and the Knights of St. John. Most of them left archaeological and architectural remains, making Malta a treasure-house for history-lovers, with megalithic temples pre-dating Egypt’s pyramids. Valletta is an impressive Baroque-Rococo capital carved from golden limestone. Malta’s quiet and unspoilt coastline have made it a favourite for Hollywood movies and TV series. “Without doubt, one of my favourite places in the world. I am forever enchanted by the views across the bay of Naples, to the unmistakable profile of Vesuvius. A short distance away, the time machine of Pompei. To the south, fourteen small towns connected by a superbly panoramic road. First and foremost, Amalfi, its white houses set like diamonds in the rock. “You can have the world. Just leave me Italy, and Portofino”
“I am sunbathing on cushions on the teak deck of my gozzo, the traditional Ligurian fishing boat, looking up towards the dark green forests on the slopes rising steeply from the emerald sea. It’s still quite early in the morning, and so the boat rocks quietly at anchor, before the waterborne traffic increases. On the other side of the promontory, Portofino, a superbly unspoilt village built centuries ago around a natural harbour, awaits my return, but for the moment, I am enjoying the sound of the crickets, the fragrance of the vegetation, and the glorious sun. At midday the bell of the Santuario high up on the hill will ring, we’ll pop the cork for a champagne aperitif and then head back for lunch. I love Portofino because it’s tiny, exclusive, authentic, accessible from the sea, just like the Cinque Terre before the railway arrived.”

Villages between sea, mountains and sun Portofino and the Cinque Terre are superb jewels, unspoilt havens of luxury and colour, built on a rocky coastline by the hardy farmers and fishermen of the past. For centuries, the five villages of the Cinque Terre were so isolated that they had their own distinctive dialects, cuisine, patron saints. To cultivate the steep slopes, they built 7,000 km of drystone walls. The coastal path linking the villages is one of the most pleasant walks in the world, and you can stop for aperitifs and lunch on the way.

“I have always thought of the Côte d’Azur as a string of precious stones on a bracelet. I can set out from Monaco, anchor off Cannes for lunch, and continue down the coast to St. Tropez. And there are an infinity of glorious bays in between. There’s no time for boredom when the coast offers all the prestige you could ever want, with exclusive beach parties, Michelin-starred cuisine, lavish beauty treatments, glamorous shopping and the captivating beauty of the setting. How I love it.”

At their best Glamour on the Côte d’Azur reaches its heights in July and August, but weather is beach-good from May to September. Its charm lasts all year round.
