FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Dear Friends of the De La Salle Community, Time To Say Goodbye My all-too-brief time at De La Salle is, sadly for me, coming to an end. It has been an enormous privilege for me to have been invited by the College Board to be Acting Principal at the College during the past six months. In many respects it has been the perfect way for me to complete my 48 year career in education. There are so many things that impress me about this College, especially the friendliness of everyone associated with it. It is a most welcoming place. We should never take for granted the many strengths of our College, including a highly talented, dedicated and professional Leadership Team, a committed, loyal and generous teaching and non-teaching staff, supportive, caring and interested parents who are prepared to work closely with us to ensure that all their son’s educational needs are met and, of course, the boys whose energy, generosity and goodwill are always so evident which makes De La Salle such a stimulating and enjoyable place in which to work. I am left with the overwhelming impression that the future for De La Salle looks very bright indeed. The College Board, new Principal and College Executive Team, in unison, are ready to lead the College into an exciting new era. All that remains for me is to wish you and your family every blessing for the approaching festive season. May the peace and joy of Christmas touch you and your family in a very special way. With every best wish. Brendan Ellis Acting Principal

CHRISTMAS GREETINGS This year has been one of great change and transition for De La Salle, Malvern. The change from a DLS brother as Principal to lay Principalship, surrounded by a very “new look” leadership team has been both exciting and challenging. The constant has been the charism of St John Baptist de La Salle, the dedication of the staff and the wonderful “spirit” amongst the boys. I thank all the staff, students, parents and families for the support and kindness throughout the year and wish the entire College community well for a safe and happy Christmas and restful holiday period. God Bless. Tom Ryan Deputy Principal- Pastrol Care & Organisation

FROM THE LIBRARY Sincere thanks to the War Widows' Guild of Australia (Vic) Inc, for their kind donation of Tom Trumble's Rescue at 2100 Hours : The Untold Story of the Most Daring Escape of the Pacific War. Thanks too, to Bruce Postle, one of the greatest photojournalists of the 20th century, for the donation of his book The Image Maker. The thoughtfulness and generosity of these benefactors makes a real difference to the breadth and depth of our Library collections, providing access to publications which we perhaps would not have the opportunity to purchase. These books are both now available in the Kinnoull Library. Susan Jost College Librarian
