Vulcan, Alberta – The Star Trek Capital of Canada Experiencing Vulcan is a fantastic way to spend your day. It is a convenient day trip from many points in Alberta. Vulcan is home to the replica starship on Highway 23. It was built in 1995 and catapulted Vulcan to international fame ever since. In 1998, the Vulcan Tourism and Trek Station was built to house Vulcan’s Visitor Information Centre. Built to resemble a landed spaceship, it contains memorabilia from space and Star Trek through the years. Inside, you can have your photo taken individually or as a group against a green screen and then have your images superimposed upon the bridge of a starship, a transporter or any other of several different backgrounds offered. Once in Vulcan, take a trek through our town and visit the bronze bust of Leonard Nimoy as Mr. Spock. Leonard Nimoy visited Vulcan for a day in April of 2010. At that time, he gave us his handprint in clay so that we could offer his handprint in bronze as well. It’s the only place in the world you can put your hand in his handprint!
Further up Centre Street, visit the mural of the five doctors from the five different Star Trek series painted on the side of one of our buildings! Do not miss Trekcetera Museum, Canada’s first and only museum of its kind, offering real, screenused costumes, props and set pieces used in the filming of Star Trek series and movies. That is not all though – Trekcetera has real costumes, props and set pieces from other iconic movies and TV shows such as Harry Potter, Thunderbirds, Titanic, Superman, Terra Nova, Captain America and more. In addition, you can touch and hold some real pieces of history from the actual Titanic and her twin sister ship, the Olympic. The Trek Station and Trekcetera Museum each make a great field trip for a day, along with the other things to see and do in Vulcan. Why not combine both the Trek Station and Trekcetera Museum to get the complete Star Trek experience you won’t find anywhere else! Educational Experiences at Fort Edmonton Park There are many ways to discover Fort Edmonton Park. Whether you are taken back in time with the help of one of our talented costumed interpreters or you decide to explore on your own, we can cater to you and your group’s needs.
School Programs A program at Fort Edmonton Park is an immersive experience as historical buildings, artifacts and costumes transport you back in time. Our approach is to ask questions and have discussions as we explore the experiences of local individuals and communities. Edmonton is placed within a larger historical context of events that shaped and developed our city. We are dedicated to making your experience with us a memorable one and are able to accommodate other curricular goals.
Fort School A week at Fort Edmonton Park? Your class can join as we explore and experience all that history has to offer! Tour through our 1846 Fort, bake over a wood-burning stove, make the front page of an Edmonton Bulletin, run for Mayor of Edmonton in 1905, learn about WWI and chronicle your adventures with memories that will last a lifetime. As students experience Edmonton’s history from 1846 to the 1920s, they gain an understanding of the history of their city, their communities, and how they, as citizens, can shape the future of both the city and the communities in which they live. They come to make Edmonton’s story their story.
Independent School Trips* Wish to spend more or less time in the park than our programs offer? Self-guided visits offer the flexibility to tour around our eras and streets on your own time. Great for teachers or large groups, feel free to discover Fort Edmonton Park in your own way! * Please note these tours are available during the summer season (May long weekend to September).
Youth Group Programs Fort Edmonton Park offers a variety of educational, informative, but most of all, fun programs for youth groups of all ages. Whether you lead a Brownie, Girl Guide, Boy Scout, 4H or any other type of extracurricular youth group, Fort Edmonton Park has a variety of programs to choose from.

A Place for Learning As the Canadian Rockies’ first ski area with the longest-running school group program in Alberta, Mount Norquay has been developing kids’ winter sports skills and promoting balanced lifestyles since 1926. Skiing and snowboarding are both recognized by the Alberta School Curriculum for Phys. Ed. Under general outcomes of activity, health benefits, cooperation and daily activity. Rooted in safety and designed to follow the skill development path created by the Canadian Ski (and Snowboard) Instructors Alliance (CSIA) and the Alpine Responsibility Code, our affordable price structure and well-rounded approach to outdoor recreation based programming makes us an attractive option for your school group’s learning objectives. We’re only an hour’s drive from Calgary, and during the week we are the quietest resort in the Banff area. Our outstanding grooming, uncrowded hills and our new Spirit Chair midunload area, which has effectively doubled our beginner terrain, have made the progression for all levels at Mt. Norquay some of the best in Alberta. Because of our unique location within Canada’s first National Park, our school programs can easily incorporate science-based themes such as conservation biology, geography, geology and history. All of our instructors are trained to reflect and deliver national park values and messages to their students with a goal of not only developing winter sports skills but also a sense of place within Banff National Park.
Easy to get to from Calgary • Just over an hour’s drive from COP. • Our bus drop-off is steps away from the rental shop and day lodge.
Have your own private room If your group is over 50 people, we’re happy to offer you use of Kika’s Café. A closed-off area on the second floor of the Cascade Day Lodge, with seating for 185 people, its own washrooms, fireplace, AV equipment and screens, Kika’s can become your own area for the day so all your belongings are safe and in place while your group is out on the mountain.
Interactive Programming and Heritage Interpretation To properly inform, educate and connect with our protected mountain environment, we will show your school group a selection of videos highlighting avalanche awareness and safety instruction, as well as provide a brief introduction to why Mt. Norquay’s location in Banff National Park is special to all Canadians.
Multi-sport – Tube Park and Snowshoes For those members of your school group who aren’t able to participate in ski/snowboard lessons, we also have a Snow Tube Park, where laughter abounds every time someone slides down. Snowshoes are also available to rent, Norquay has several marked snowshoe trails.
Best teaching terrain for all levels in Alberta • Great transition from Green runs all the way to Black runs. • Great, consistent fall-line skiing. • Learn to ski bumps at any age and ability. • Small group size: one instructor to six students. • All lessons are built around the skier/rider responsibility code.
Rental equipment Rental equipment will be pre-set based on information provided and ready for a super-fast turnaround – less time waiting and more time skiing and riding.
I invite you and your school to come and enjoy at one of Canada’s best-kept secrets, and look forward to seeing your students’ smiles as they learn to love the mountains as much as we do. For more information, please visit banffnorquay.com/schools or call us at 403-762-4221. Sincerely, Gord Fielding Ski School Director

Plan to see at least three different farms or ranches, on the back roads on your day tour. Your host, Andrew Campbell, is schooled in university and the muck of the corrals. We can do “step on” guiding your school bus, or in smaller families or groups, simply travel in Andy’s roomy farm truck through the hills. We show our traditions, blended with modern ranch and farm life. We see real agriculture. Stop in working farms as the day goes on. We calve and lamb during the spring school year, before the crocuses bloom, making fresh, naturally fed beef, hogget and lamb. We may also see different bird species as well, plus why they may nest species specifically. Places you visit can include mixed farming, honey and/ or Saskatoon berry farms, sheep and cattle ranches, feedlots, horticulture/ wind and shelterbelts. Call 403-819-1845 or email a.campbell@platinum. ca. Enjoy the day with Andy at Agro Scenic Tours!

Our programs easily adapt to meet primary curriculum target areas, especially in the Kindergarten year. Exploring the farm with its many engaging activity centres will send your students home with many stories and memories. The Spring Babies program is very popular: actually going right into most pens/barns with the latest new babies, trying milking, having a wagon ride behind the old farm tractor. October brings Butterfield Acres’ very fun Harvest Pumpkin Hunt! Hopping onto the big wagon, we go trundling off through the crunchy fall leaves, eyes wide open, searching for the slightest glimpse of orange. When the screaming has stopped, we scramble down into the pumpkin patch, where each child finds their own very cute child-sized pumpkin. Then we’re back on
the wagon, off to create some pumpkin-head masterpieces with all sorts of nature based decorations. A visit with all the farmyard friends finishes off another memorable field trip that can only happen out on the farm. Finally – if you absolutely can’t come out to visit us – we can bring our Farm Corral animals in to visit your school! Online info and order forms at www.ButterfieldAcres.com.

Coaches will spend time at the beginning going over basic landing technique and safety rolls, after which students will be split into groups to test their skills on the different types of equipment. We are able to work with and incorporate any required gymnastics skills of the Alberta Physical Education curriculum into our workshops. If you are unsure on what you’d like to incorporate in your workshop, we can make suggestions based on what past groups have had fun with. We are able to teach school groups from Kindergarten to Grade 12, and can accommodate groups with as many as 40 at a time. Workshops are typically 60 to 90 minutes long. Each Season, the CPO welcomes more than 10,000 students from all over Calgary into the concert hall as part of its Education Series.
Involvement in music helps young people perform better in school and in life. Research says that students who are active in school music programs are more successful, and students say their commitment to music keeps them focused and motivated in everything they pursue. The Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra believes in the value of music and music education, and offers a variety of Education Series concerts
The CPO’s Education Series Concerts are one hour long, lighthearted, fun programs designed to educate students in Grades 1 through 6, and get them excited about classical music. Through the Education Series, students will experience repertoire from all periods of music history through concerts that include narration, actors, vocalists, and the CPO, led by Associate Conductor Adam Johnson.
Concerts in the Education Series are shaped with themes aligned with the material being presented in the classroom. We welcome all educators from public, separate, private, charter, and home schools. This season, the CPO is thrilled to move its Education Series concerts to the new Mount Royal University Conservatory Bella Concert Hall. Concerts offered in the 2015-2016 season are Beatrix Potter’s Peter Rabbit & Friends (November 2015), Alfie and the Lost Treasure (January/ February 2016), and The Orchestra Rocks (April 2016).

CHRISTINE BUHR For Christine Buhr, it all started with a simple plan: to build a family fun destination for Calgarians. Nine years later, she has transformed that undertaking into Shakers, Calgary’s largest and most successful ‘fun centre.’ Boasting everything from Go Karts and laser tag to a climbing tower, miniature golf course, rock climbing wall, indoor playground and arcade, Christine has been instrumental in moving it beyond just a place for families and kids’ birthday parties. “Companies utilize our facility to host team building and
other company parties and functions. We’ve expanded to where we can cater the food in-house and have the flexibility to create personalized events for up to 2000 people.” Facing the challenge of running what amounts to five businesses under one roof, Christine has also benefitted from being part of the Entrepreneurs’ Organization, of which she is on the board. “The learning I’ve taken away has been unbelievable. It’s been an amazing journey.”

Field Trips Few art mediums kindle growth and skills in children in the way that clay does. Working with clay is an invaluable experience for sensory development, motor skills, self-esteem, self-expression, problem solving skills, discipline and pride. Clay also has a uniquely therapeutic quality that settles and calms children. It can capture their attention for hours. Experience a traditional pottery studio with your students at a field trip to Clay for Kids (CFK). Participants can create projects from raw clay through hand building techniques and throwing a pot on the pottery wheel.
At a CFK studio field trip, students will learn about: • Where clay originates; • Clay building techniques; • Clay decorating techniques, including: drape molds, rollers, imprinting with fabrics and stamps; • Finishes available for green ware and bisque ware; • The transformation of clay to green ware, bisque ware and finished glazed pottery; • Studio layout planning to accommodate work flow; • Storage of raw clay and bisque ware, drying of clay projects, kilns and firing methods; and • Glass fusion materials, projects and firing requirements.
BASIC CFK FIELD TRIP DETAILS: • View a PowerPoint presentation on the selected curriculum project. • Students are instructed how to hand build the project with clay. • Students slip glaze the project. • Tour of the studio. Length: 3 hours Cost: $15/student plus GST
ADDITIONAL OPTION: • View a PowerPoint presentation on the Evolution of the Pottery Wheel. • Create a small bowl on the pottery wheel and apply slip glaze while it is spinning. Length: 4 hours (including lunch break) Cost: $25/student plus GST All projects will be dried, fired, dipped in clear glaze and then re-fired to a colourful and shiny finish. Teachers will be contacted when projects are complete and ready for pickup at the studio.

Easter Seals Camp Horizon Inclusion. It’s a buzzword we’re all familiar with. It has positively impacted policy and perspective from classrooms to little league to government. At its essence, the goal is so good, that everyone would feel included no matter their background, age, race/ethnicity, religion, gender, sexual orientation and gender identity. The movement toward inclusion is rooted in the value and practice that everyone feels valued. And yet time and again we hear of examples where inclusion is seen as a checkmark on a task list rather than embraced as a full paradigm shift. The former falls short of creating that meaningful impact that reduces the loneliness of feeling or being treated as marginalized. A simple example. School classrooms for some time now have embraced inclusion by ensuring that students of all abilities can share the same learning opportunities and space, the benefit being that the learning that comes from each other is just as valuable as, if not more so than, what’s taught in the curriculum. And yet, in moments when the act of inclusion is the most important, it is seen as too inconvenient and often abandoned. Take for instance a simple overnight field trip, a rite of passage so vital in an age when kids are finding fewer opportunities to connect with nature or each other in an authentic way, free of devices, screens and schedules. And yet the very essence of a field trip means that we leave the security of the classroom and the urban environment adapted with ramps, pavement, accessible washroom stalls, etc. Imagine a grade 6 student who, through inclusion, attends a mainstream school with his peers despite his diagnosis of cerebral palsy and complex needs. He participates in all school activities right alongside his able bodied peers and seamlessly wheels throughout the school environment. He has been included and everyone feels great about this big step in the right direction. Inclusion has ensured that this
Inspiring potential • Building Community • Enriching Lives
boy doesn’t need to be driven across the city to a specialized school and so his peers and classmates are the same kids he sees in his neighborhood every day. It is a win on so many levels. But is he invited to hang out at the park after school? Is he invited to the birthday parties or the sleepovers? Probably not. Not everyone’s home is equipped with ramps and lifts. And understandably so, parents of typical children are likely quite intimidated by the complexities of his disability. He’s been included at school but has he found a place where he truly feels he belongs? Where he doesn’t see himself as the one child who is different and never fully included? The time comes nearer for his classroom to head off on their overnight field trip adventure. A time and place where memories are formed and stories created that will be retold for years and years to come. Friendships are solidified in a way they can’t in the confines of the classroom and a lifetime of bonding happens in a very short space of time. But the host facility isn’t equipped for full accessibility. The trails are rough and uneven. The buildings are old and not outfitted with push-to-open doors, ramp access or lifts. The staff are untrained to deal with transfers and special diets. And so the simple conclusion is that he will be left behind. The school’s tradition of attending the same facility for field trips supersedes the movement towards inclusion. How could they possibly change this tradition now? The class will go ahead without him. He’ll be “included” in another classroom to carry on his learning while his classmates are away. He won’t know what he’s missing. But upon their return there will be an obvious sense of what he has missed and just how deep the bonding that has occurred within his classmates. For a child who is already on the fringes, he’ll now be further isolated by enduring inside jokes, stories finished with “you should’ve been there!” and a vacuum where the richness of that experience with his “peers” would have filled. A brave smile will appear where loneliness and isolation take hold. What if the school had found an accessible setting for their field trip rather than opting for the “easy” route. They do exist you know…incredible facilities where every ounce of effort has been made to ensure that No One misses
out. What if they had even gone part way by reaching out to some experts for advice and adaptive equipment; there are entire industries designed around planning and creating accessibility. What if they had recognized that in moments like these, inclusion really matters? Would it have been easy? No, not really. But would it have been worth it? You better believe it. The outdoor school experience would have been transformative, not only to that one student but to everyone involved. It would have taught them that inclusion isn’t just for when it’s convenient but for always. When faced with the trail down to the waterfront with the bumps and roots, they’d work together as a team to get their classmate there. And when faced with the challenge of how to all get across the lake, they’d learn about the physics of the outriggers on the specialized canoe and witness the joy on their classmate’s face as he experienced canoeing for the first time in his life. This young man would for once in his life be the centre of attention in a positive way. He’d represent the goal and the puzzle – the ultimate objective of team work. Working together to ensure that no one was left out – could there be a truer lesson in empathy, compassion and caring? All the skills today’s young people are lacking as their focus becomes more and more narcissistic and drawn into their screens and devices. Forced to think not of themselves, but of someone else, someone less fortunate, would be a greater lesson than any curriculum directed outcome. And our young man? He’d be on top of the moon. Experiencing the simple joy of a sleepover with his peers, the feeling of hanging out after school, the feeling of being invited in the party. The feeling of simply being a kid who belongs. And maybe, just maybe a classmate would realize that including him wasn’t so tough and would think twice before passing him over. And isn’t that the ultimate goal? Not to check off a box to say that our programs are “inclusive” but to ensure that every child feels that they belong and to give them a platform to thrive.

Hidden Valley Ski Resort and Cypress Hills Provincial Park, Alberta – Student Centered Learning
I
f you ever went on a school ski trip then you know it is one thing that you will remember
for life. School ski trips are more than just a day out… they are times to learn, challenge, excel, bond, laugh, cry or make new friends. They memories being made by an experience many may not have the chance to do out of school.
Hidden Valley is located near Elkwater, within the Cypress Hills Provincial Park, Alberta. At 1,235 feet, and with an extensive snow-making system, you know the skiing will always be good. Open December through March the ski resort provides a great place to get students and teachers on snow for an affordable rate. Hidden Valley Snow School programs were designed with the needs of students, teachers and parents in mind by teachers. The Snow School gives more time to beginners who receive up to two-and-ahalf hours of instruction spread between morning and afternoon. This provides a safe, secure and fun learning environment for students with more supervision by professional instructors. All Snow School staff are trained by the Canadian Ski Instructors Alliance (CSIA) or the Canadian Association of Snowboard Instructors (CASI) so you know you are getting top quality instruction. Inclusion is an integral part of our policy and we have CADS (Canadian Association for Disabled Skiing) instructors on hand for any students with physical, cognitive or social difficulties.
There is a fully equipped rental shop and day lodge with plenty of room for bagged lunches or make use of the cafeteria with reasonably priced hot food on the plate. Our comprehensive teachers’ pack gives you a resource to use with readymade consent forms, information, checklists, participant list etc. Everything you need to get your trip up and running whether it is your first time or a seasoned organiser! Tobogganing, cross country skiing, snow shoeing, trail skating and a snow luge are all available close by the resort to enhance your trip and the Parks staff have the equipment you need. Environmental Education Programs are on offer through Alberta Parks and can be combined with your ski trip to add to the learning experience of the students. Accommodation is available in Elkwater or Medicine Hat should you wish to make this a multi-day experience. Make the Canadian Winter something to look forward to with an Outdoor Education adventure to Hidden Valley and the Cypress Hills Provincial Park, Alberta.
Nature is our classroom.
Book your field trip to the Calgary Zoo today. The zoo isn’t just a great place to visit animals and plants; it’s the perfect place to learn about them too. If you’re looking for a great experience for your class, our curriculum-based programs are the perfect way to make the most of a trip outside the classroom. With guided and self-guided programs available year round, the Calgary Zoo will engage your students’ senses as they discover the wonders of the wild. See our program offerings at calgaryzoo.com or email fun2learn@calgaryzoo.com for more information.
Calgary Zoo
F
rom allosaurus to zebras, ferret conservation to genetic diversity – the Calgary Zoo is a classroom like no other. Nestled between the Bow and Elbow rivers, our site covers 0.3km2 and is home to over 1,000 animals. Over 20,000 schoolchildren take part in our formal programs annually, with another 35,000 visiting on selfguided excursions.
“The zoo inspires awe and wonder in all age groups, and we have programs matched to curriculum for every grade,” shares School Program Coordinator Roz Gilchrist. “While studying the animals, their environments and the plants they rely on, you will see your students have that light bulb moment as a theoretical concept they have been studying comes to life right in front of them.” A team of educators deliver interactive guided tours, hourlong and full-day programs, designed around the latest Alberta curriculum. With a roster of 22 programs for the 2015-2016 school year, the newest inquirybased offerings will be tied to the grade 6 curriculum of Flight and Aerodynamics and an ELA and SS combo on Community Conservation Leadership geared to secondary students in grades 10 – 12. With flight and aerodynamics, we ask: what adaptations are crucial to successful flight? As we explore how birds and other flying animals are built for flight, we’ll look for similarities seen in modern aviation. Using the knowledge of animal adaptations, students will get hands-on as they test different variables in the design of a plane to meet specific requirements. Can their personal jet designs match up to an albatross?
In the lively Community Conservation Leadership program, we combine current events and data from Calgary Zoo conservation projects to get high schoolers debating the best solution for a community initiative. The program is designed to develop communication, critical thinking and team working skills, and students will propose a plan of action for a mock project. Groups will present their solutions and debate the merits and obstacles before learning how experts proceeded. Backpack tours are also new this year. This twist on a self-guided visit allows teachers to reserve a set of pre-prepared backpacks that includes a written tour laden with talking points and prompting questions designed to spark dialogue. Used alongside with animal artifacts and learning resources, the complete kit is yours for the day. Go as fast or as slow as you like while discovering Levels of the African Savannah, Enclosure Design in Eurasia or Hot & Cold in the Canadian Wilds. More themes will be added throughout the year, so check back on the website to see all the ways you can enhance your day at the zoo.

We provide each school class a one hour guided tour, hands on with smaller animals and awesome animal presentations all at a reasonable price! You can even book a hot dog and fries lunch for your class, accompanied with a refreshing drink! Each tour can be customized to suit your curriculum – simply let us know at the time you are booking what topic you would like the keepers to focus on and we will make it happen! There is also a fun opportunity for the students to see and touch some of our small animals and reptiles at the end of each tour. Our animal presentations are developed to provide the education you require, while still having the WOW factor for the children. Meet our tigers, jaguars and our movie star bears, and see how they are trained for the film work that they do! The Park is spacious, clean and environmentally conscious – we even have an EcoTour for those classes that are interested in how we lessen our footprint on the environment through recycling and reusing materials. We introduce the classes to the app “Biodiversity is Us” which has been set up by WAZA, the World Association of Zoos and Aquariums. This app covers many of our global environmental issues, as well as providing information on species from around the world.
Discovery Wildlife Park is the place for your next field trip! We book school tours for May, June and September, but remember to book early! We fill up quickly in the spring! Call or email soon to book your spot!

Jasper’s Whitewater Rafting
The original Jasper Adventure since 1971! We look forward to welcoming school groups to Canada’s largest Rocky Mountain Park and integral component of the Canadian Rocky Mountain Parks UNESCO World Heritage Site. Experience a Canadian Heritage River; the Athabasca, which originates from the Columbia Icefield, the largest icefield in the North American Rocky Mountains. Because of its outstanding natural beauty, historical significance and importance for river recreation, the section of the Athabasca River within Jasper National Park has been designated as a Canadian Heritage River. Used by Canada’s First Nations prior to the early 19th century, the river’s upper valley played a significant role in the development of the Canadian west for more than 100 years. A visit to Jasper National Park should include a rafting trip with Jasper’s Whitewater Rafting; offering a unique opportunity to link curriculum and hands-on experience sure to resonate with students. Our guides are swift water rescue certified, as well as certified with the Jasper National Park Interpretation Association. We cater to school group needs offering transportation, heated change rooms and exceptional customer service as well as school group rates.

Waterton Shoreline Cruise Company Our family-owned tour boat company in Waterton Lakes National Park has offered sightseeing cruises for over 60 years. With employees that are either family members or longtime returning staff, we provide an information-charged, memorable, enjoyable cruise experience offered from a true local perspective.
Cruises are approximately two hours long and travel to the Goat Haunt Ranger Station, Montana, USA. Because the cruise takes place in the Waterton-Glacier International Peace Park, passengers have a unique opportunity to cross the international border into the United States without having to show a passport or clear customs. Wildlife is often seen. Our tour guides have developed personalized interpretive commentary styles that are very effective in capturing the attention of students of all ages. Commentaries can be adjusted to place emphasis on particular topics, so as to coincide with the school curriculum, regardless of grade. Topics may include weather and climate, fauna, flora, ecosystem interactions, biodiversity, geology, hydrology, and local human history. Aside from a boat cruise, students may be further engaged by scenic drives and wildlife-viewing opportunities, hiking trails, and possibly through collaboration with other businesses and Parks Canada. Riding the tour boat will supplement the student curriculum while also instilling in students a passion for the outdoors; it offers an opportunity to temporarily disconnect from technology, allows students to develop an appreciation and love for Canada’s National Parks, and ultimately allows each individual an opportunity to form a personal connection with a place that is right in their backyard.
Jasper - Your perfect field trip destination in any season! Ski Marmot Basin Mid-November to Early May Marmot Basin is the only ski area in Jasper National Park, an 11,000-square-kilometre wilderness, part of the UNESCO Canadian Rockies World Heritage Site. It’s a truly unique skiing destination that is a feast for the eyes. With breathtaking mountain vistas, 86 runs and 3,000 vertical feet of varied terrain on 1,675 acres, Marmot Basin offers a mountain of opportunities. As the northernmost Rocky Mountain ski area with the highest base elevation in Canada, Marmot Basin enjoys abundant dry, fluffy, natural snow from November to May that is a dream to ski and snowboard on! Let us take care of you! The goal of our Group Sales Team is to make your school-group experience hassle-free and convenient. Pre-booked lift tickets, rentals and lessons are all organized and ready when your group arrives at the mountain. At Marmot Basin, you will receive the highest quality professional instruction. The role of our instructors is not only to educate students on the finer points of skiing and snowboarding but also to act as knowledgeable, responsible and vigilant guides for every student under their care. Learn more than just skiing or snowboarding with the Marmot Learning Centre: • Canada’s only ski-in, ski-out classroom • High-tech classroom at the mid-mountain chalet • C ourse instruction by Parks Canada staff from the Palisades Stewardship Education Centre, ski patrol and public safety specialists • o ne- to three-hour sessions on Geocaching, Avalanche Awareness, Species at Risk or Emergency Situations (science and social studies curriculum linked) • T hree-credit Winter Travel courses for Grades 10-12 (four-day residential program at the Palisades Stewardship Education Centre and Marmot Basin). For an unforgettable ski and learning experience in the beautiful Rocky Mountains, Marmot Basin and Jasper have no equal!
Jasper SkyTram April to Late October If you are looking to experience higher education, then the Jasper SkyTram is a must field trip this school year. The longest and highest guided aerial tramway in Canada offers the best view in Jasper National Park and is conveniently located eight kilometres from Jasper. The Jasper SkyTram is an excellent field trip that encompasses three different ecological zones and a diversity of animals and plants. Students will be actively involved in the learning experience as soon as they enter the tram cabins. As the tram soars toward the upper station a guide will provide information about the surrounding river systems and mountain ranges. Once you land at the top, teachers are free to lead their students as they explore the summit trail and take in the amazing views of the Canadian Rockies from an elevation of 2,500 metres. Climate, geology, soil, plants, animals and humans all interact in one large complex web of life. In Jasper, this web is especially fragile. Here, existence depends on the intricate relationships between flora and fauna, weather and landscape. These relationships, called ecosystems, can be upset by the smallest of changes, affecting even the largest of animals, including Jasper’s monarch, the grizzly bear. Take advantage of our breakfast or lunch meal options served at the upper station before or after your exploration of the area. A visit to Jasper SkyTram will be an unforgettable experience that your students will remember for years to come. See you on the mountain!
