INTRODUCTION TO THE NORTHERN REGIONAL CONSTRUCTION ASSOCIATION Northern British Columbia is a vast and unique area with a wealth of the provinceâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s natural resources. Distance, geography and weather contribute to the distinctness of the region. Northern Regional Construction Association is dedicated to the promotion of construction investment, standard practices and high standards in the construction industry. The Association speaks on behalf of all sectors of the industry on construction concerns with government, design and tendering authorities and the public. NRCA is committed to the principle that industry participants share a common interest and believes that united action will provide benefits to the construction industry and the economy. Membership in the Association is open to any firm that either directly or indirectly engages in construction and to any firm that manufactures or supplies goods or services to the construction industry. From its regional office located in the traditional grounds of Lheidli Tâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;enneh First Nation in Prince George, NRCA delivers services throughout the north to members located within Bulkley Valley, Peace Country, Cariboo-Chilcotin, Skeena-Bulkley Valley, Stikine, North Coast and Haida Gwaii.

NRCA advertising services Do you know all the ways you can advertise through NRCA? The NRCA Membership Directory and Buyersâ&#x20AC;&#x2122; Guide has a publication of 1,200 copies, which are distributed to member firms, local associations and buyers of your construction services. This is published once a year. NorthWORKS magazine is the official publication of the Northern Regional Construction Association and is published once a year. Two-thousand copies are distributed to member firms, potential members, the design community, government officials and public and private construction buyers. NRCA also produces a monthly newsletter, The Northern Construction Connection, which has space available for member advertisements and company profiles.

MESSAGE FROM THE NRCA CEO

As the CEO of the Northern Regional Construction Association (NRCA), it’s a pleasure to represent the industrial, commercial and institutional members located within our region. Northern British Columbia is one of the fastest growing economic regions in North America. Such an active economic climate offers significant opportunities for members of NRCA. To bring those opportunities to our respective membership, key objectives will be to establish formal strategies to align our efforts relative to economic development activities and public procurement standard practices within our region. Our region, although large in the size of our land base (two-thirds of the province, geographically), rich in our wealth of resources and huge in our economic provincial contributions, represents just seven per cent of the population of B.C. In order to meet industry demands, we as an association continue to work with membership and local government to identify regional needs and concerns. In 2019, our association underwent a significant shift that sustains and enhances our continued commitment to support our membership through educational programs, employee benefit programs, industry standard practices, bidding opportunities and advocacy with local government. Over the past year, we have witnessed a substantial increase in the number of public procurement advocacy files that has resulted in a review of standard practices. NRCA continues to be leader in establishing venues for open and frank debate on industry issues that affect our members and the local government in Northern B.C. In early 2019, NRCA and the BC Construction Association launched a new training program called Builders Code that sets a standard code of conduct for workers on construction sites in B.C. It defines an “acceptable worksite” as the starting point for reducing risk and ensuring a safe and productive environment for all workers. The Builders Code is intended to help construction employers communicate a reasonable, consistent behaviour expectation to improve the safety, productivity and retention of skilled tradespeople, and to reduce project risk. To enhance our membership experience, a new website and customer relations management software program will be implemented in early 2020, providing members improved access to local, regional and provincial activities, training programs and regular updates on construction projects. We’re also looking forward to significant enhancements to the BidCentral platform that will be improve and streamline access to bidding opportunities throughout B.C. Throughout B.C., there continues to be significant support for the recently announced major project decisions announced in late 2018 and 2019. In view that many of these projects will be constructed within the NRCA regional membership, our objective is to create strategies with industry, government (local, regional, provincial) and owners to ensure that local participation plans for goods, services and employment opportunities are communicated.
