Saskatchewan’s Complete Field Trip Resource

Stone Hall Castle

Educational School Tours! It is our goal at Stone Hall Castle to open our doors and allow students and teachers a chance to delve into the deep routed history that has been meticulously hand picked and created in the heart of Regina. We wish to offer informative educational tours, that are

guaranteed to provide stimulating opportunities for learning outside

the class room. Not only is Stone Hall a one of a kind exhibit in craftsman ship, architecture,

antiquities, and art from the rich past of renaissance Europe, it

also allows a look into the past history of Regina and how the castle came to be.

By booking a private tour for your

class, you have the ability to have a consultation with Mr Hall prior to your visit to discus and plan

the specific learning objectives

you wish your class to take away from the experience, weather it be an over all in depth tour, to

specialized tours in antiquities and renaissance furniture and purposes, to concentrating on

the private art collection within the castle walls.

Tours can be arranged Monday

through Friday, allowing students a chance to watch history come to life as they are guided by

Mr Hall in a interactive first class tour into the beauty and depths of history.

We would like to offer all students and teachers $10.00 admittance, 50% off rate from regular tours pricing.

For bookings and further information please contact: info@stonehallcastle.com

Tips are accepted by phone, text, web and mobile apps and are completely anonymous. You will never be asked for your name, and you will never have to go to court. Crime Stoppers also provides a financial incentive of up to $2,000 for information leading to an arrest or a cleared case. Crime Stoppers funding comes primarily from donations and our yearly fundraisers which include a golf tournament and an annual gala dinner.

Saskatoon Crime Stoppers also is proud to promote safe schools by accepting bullying tips by phone, text and web. Students can anonymously report bullying incidents, regardless of where they happen. Students can be assured that their reports will be taken seriously and they will never be identified. Bullying tips will not be considered for cash rewards unless an investigation leads to criminal charges.

Choose the Saskatchewan Science Centre for your field trip this year!

F

ield trips can enhance and expand upon the materials that you are teaching in class, but there are only so many opportunities to get outside of the classroom during the school year. When you do choose a location for a field trip, you want to make the most of it.

use the scavenger hunts or activity sheets available on our website to help their fun time be productive. This time could also include watching one of our hourly stage show demonstrations on topics including cryogenics, gravity, air pressure, animals, and even fire!

Choosing the Saskatchewan Science Centre for your field trip is one of the best ways to do that. With more than 180 hands-on exhibits to explore, a large variety of workshops to take part in, and educational IMAX films, it’s easy to tie your lesson plan into a fun and productive field trip.

Enjoy lunch on site at noon, which can be eaten out in beautiful Wascana Park if the weather permits. Then, at 1:00, watch an IMAX documentary on our five story screen with intense 3D images and more than 10,000 watts of surround sound to keep your students glued to their seats. By 1:45, you’re back on the way to your bus and back to school with plenty of time to spare.

Each of our workshops is designed for a specific grade level to work with the curriculum that you are teaching in your class. Information about inquiry learning activities is provided so that you can plan lessons around the things your students experience at the Science Centre, and the visiting exhibitions and IMAX films are presented with Educator Guides to help take the load off of planning pre and post field trip activities. Start the day right at 9:15! A quick checkin, and by 9:30 one of our science educators is taking your class to their workshop location. Maybe it’s Star Trip – where our inflatable digital planetarium takes students on a visual journey out into the universe – followed by some exploration time on the exhibit floor! Promote inquiry learning and

Of course, that’s just one way to experience the Science Centre with your class! Whether you would like a full-day or half-day experience, we can help you plan it. Our full list of workshops, IMAX films, and teacher resources are available on our website, and as part of our Beyond the Classroom Teacher Planning Guide. If you’re too far away from Regina to visit us, let us come to you with our Go! Science Outreach team. A full day of programming can be brought right to your school, with hands-on, grade-appropriate workshops and stage shows that can bring your whole school together for some exciting science demonstrations!

Get beyond the classroom this year and ignite the scientific curiosity of your class at the Saskatchewan Science Centre! Real science. Real fun. Visit sasksciencecentre.com for more information.

Blumenfeld District & Heritage Site The Blumenfeld Church is the original church in the district of Leader, Saskatchewan. The first German settlers came to the district from Romania in 1908; they built the church seven years later, in 1915. The interior of the church is one of the most beautiful in Canada. It has been carefully maintained and includes all the original furniture and fixtures. Behind the church is a grotto made of prairie stones, where members of the Catholic religion gather once a year to enjoy a church service which is called “Pilgrimage.” The shrine near the Church of St. Peter and St. Paul, near Blumenfeld, is also in honour of the Sorrowful Mother. In a niche in the grotto close to the church is a replica of the sculpture of the famous Michelangelo of the Blessed Virgin holding the body of her Divine Son after His death – the Pieta. For group tours please call 306-673-2663. THIS PROVINCIAL HERITAGE SITE IS OPEN BY APPOINTMENT. eachers are always looking for new ways to engage and excite students in their learning to ensure they retain the important information. Creating meaningful learning experiences for students to connect to food and agriculture is our top priority at Agriculture in the Classroom Saskatchewan (AITC-SK). We collaborate with the province’s agriculture and education communities to develop programs, resources and presentations that meet curriculum outcomes and are hands-on and engaging. “Hands-on experiences give kids a deeper understanding of food and agriculture in Saskatchewan,” says Sara Shymko, Executive Director of AITC-SK. “I want all kids to have these meaningful experiences with food production so they can understand, appreciate and respect agriculture and its importance locally and globally.” Do your students know where their food comes from and how it is grown? Take your students out of the classroom and let them truly experience agriculture! Participate in a Food Farm, where students will plant seeds in Spring and return in Fall to harvest their crops and make familiar foods, helping them understand the full cycle of farming. Apply for an AG Tour Bursary to take your class to a working farm or

agri-business and meet the people who are committed to growing safe, healthy food for us to eat. We offer many other discovery programs

Hands-on experiences give kids a deeper understanding of food & agriculture. around Saskatchewan that help students explore what agriculture means to our province through hands-on activities connected to curriculum. Have your students considered the science that goes into producing food and the associated career opportunities available? For middle years students we provide opportunities to engage in interactive sessions hosted by today’s leaders in the fields of science and technology during Biotech Blast and Sask Food Story. Bring your high school students to a thinkAG Career Expo to learn more about the dynamic careers that are possible in agriculture. What impact would it have on your high school students if they were able to harness their creative and innovative ideas for a project? that build on a variety of different skills, from presentation to marketing and cooking skills. All while helping build connections with other Saskatchewan students. Supplement your out of classroom experience by ordering one of our many educational resources through our website! If you love the idea of engaging activities for students to enhance a learning experience, but are unable to get outside of your classroom, we have programs and resources that will complement your in-classroom teachings while reaching curriculum outcomes. From growing your very own garden in your classroom, to supplementing a topic with a handson activity and presentation from one of our staff, we provide all of the supplies needed. Resources include activities, books, interactive games, videos and more that promote inquiry-based learning about food and agriculture! Get your students excited about learning with our innovative, experiential, curriculum-based programs! To find a School Program suited for your class or for more information, visit www.aitc.sk.ca. Tunnels of Moose Jaw At the Tunnels of Moose Jaw, we aim to engage our guests with both facts and fun all rolled into one dynamic presentation. We offer two separate theatrically guided experiences:

• The Passage to Fortune tells the story of the Chinese immigrants’ journey into Canada in the late 1800s. The students learn about the Head Tax, the Chinese Immigration Act and how these brave men helped build the CPR. It deals with their ultimate survival despite racism and hatred they suffered on a daily basis. • The Chicago Connection offers a glimpse into the days of prohibition, bootlegging and gangsters in the 1920s right here in Moose Jaw. Moose Jaw at the time was rife with political corruption and bad behavior by many in power. The students learn about their country’s history and the way things were in the Roaring Twenties. We offer packages to all teachers so their students can learn about Canadian history in a unique and memorable way. It’s a great way to supplement what is being taught in your classrooms.

We prefer to call our maze “trails” due to our paths following a meandering puzzle rather than the traditional 90 degree angle maze. Although the trails themselves provide great team building cooperation, we can also provide different learning activities for your class trip depending on age and difficulty.
