Nel 2012 sono stati celebrati in Italia 207.138 matrimoni, 2.308 in più rispetto al 2011. L’aumento del numero delle Nozze, secondo i dati Istat, è dovuto alla ripresa dei matrimoni in cui almeno uno, o entrambi, i coniugi sono di cittadinanza straniera. I matrimoni di cittadini stranieri in Italia nel 2012 sono stati in totale 30.724, circa il 15% del totale, oltre 4000 in più rispetto all’anno precedente.

During 2012 there were 207,138 weddings celebrated in Italy, so 2,308 more than in 2011. The increase in the number of the weddings, according to ISTAT (Italian statistics institute), is due to an increase in marriages where one or both spouses are foreign nationals. There were 30,724 marriages involving foreign citizens in Italy in 2012, about 15% of the total, for an increase of 4,000 compared to the previous year.

Planeta, a success story

Planeta è un vero “Viaggio in Sicilia”, un viaggio da occidente a oriente, che da Sambuca e Menfi porta sino a Vittoria, a Noto e all’Etna. Le tappe del viaggio sono le cinque aziende di proprietà che attraversano i territori più vocati e storici della viticultura Siciliana. Cinque boutique wineries, progettate ciascuna per trasmettere attraverso il vino l’identità di territori così diversi tra di loro. Un viaggio pensato e raccontato da Francesca Planeta, una donna del vino d’eccellenza, che siamo onorati quest’anno di presentare quale madrina del progetto Wine&Wedding 2014.

Planeta is an authentic ‘Tour of Sicily’, a journey from west to east, starting in Sambuca and Menfi, and continuing to Vittoria, Noto and Mount Etna, taking in the company’s five cellars along the way, located in the island’s most ancient vineyard country. Each of the five boutique wineries is designed to express the identity of its own unique terroir through its wines. The journey is the brainchild of Francesca Planeta, a spokeswoman for prestigious wines whom we are proud to announce as our patron for Wine&Wedding 2014.

Planeta: La mia è stata un’avventura straordinaria, iniziata da mio padre, quando io andavo ancora a scuola. Il progetto era quello di scoprire un’altra Sicilia anche attraverso il vino di qualità e dopo i primi esperimenti, negli anni ‘90, tutta la famiglia è entrata nella viticoltura. Per me è stata una sfida e un cambiamento importante, io allora lavoravo a Milano in una multinazionale e nel ‘95 sono tornata in Sicilia per la prima vendemmia, accorgendomi subito che stava succedendo qualcosa di importante, qualcosa della quale volevo essere partecipe. Qualcosa che ha portato oggi, dopo quasi vent’anni di produzione ad una dimensione completa, dove Planeta rappresenta una Sicilia fatta di terroir differenti, di gusti, profumi, scenari meravigliosi, comunicati nel modo giusto.

Planeta: I can tell you a wonderful story, one that was begun by my father when I was still at school. His plan was to discover another Sicily, one that also included quality wine and after the first experiments, in the 1990s, the whole family became involved in viticulture. For me it was a challenge and an important change. At the time I was working in Milan, at a multinational, and in 1995 I went back to Sicily for the first harvest, soon realizing that something significant was about to happen, something that I wanted to be part of. Something that after almost twenty years of production took us into a complete dimension, one where Planeta embodies a Sicily of many different terroirs, tastes, scents, and marvellous scenarios, communicated in the right way.

Io credo che un vino si comunichi soprattutto facendolo assaggiare. La qualità del prodotto è alla base, ma da sola non basta. Wine&Wedding mi piace perché pone sul vino un accento diverso: oltre che bevanda, diventa simbolo di un evento, sarà legato per sempre ad un ricordo prezioso e i panorami dove quel vino prende vita faranno da cornice ad una delle giornate più felici per un uomo ed una donna: il matrimonio. E’ un modo molto bello e molto felice di diffondere la cultura enologica italiana. Direi un connubio perfetto, che grazie al vino e in impeccabile stile “soft economy” sta contribuendo al rilancio del turismo puntando ad obiettivi ambiziosi, seguendo il diktat della qualità, del rispetto dell’ambiente e delle tradizioni più belle del Made in Italy.

I believe that a wine speaks for itself once we taste it and while the product is underpinned by quality, there has to be more. I like Wine&Wedding because it puts a different sort of accent on wine, raising it from the status of a drink to that of event icon that will remain forever part of a precious memory. The settings where life is breathed into that wine are the backdrop for one of the happiest days of a couple’s life, their wedding day. It’s a very lovely and very happy way to spread Italian wine culture. I’d say the perfect marriage, and thanks to wine and a flawless ‘soft economy’ feel, it’s playing a key role is reviving tourism, with some ambitious aims, applying the laws of quality, environmental respect and the finest ‘Made in Italy’ traditions.

The concept behind the Roccafiore name came from the wild roses that cloaked parts of the manor’s walls in years past. An ancient element that has survived and along with other ornamental plants adorns the venue’s gardens. Una perla che cresce in un ettaro e mezzo, a quota 800 e da alberello di Carricante. Vino di grande piacevolezza dagli aromi dolci di frutta candida, pera e fiori gialli. Affumicato gentile ma rabbioso dentro, agrumi e sale, bel finale: il palato è invaso da ondate di sapidità, iodio, mineralità e freschezza.

A pearl grown in one and a half hectares of gobelet-trained carricante at an altitude of 800 metres. A most pleasurable wine with sweet aromas of white fruit, pear and yellow blossom. The mild smokiness conceals a feisty heart of citrus and salt, with a nice finish; the palate moves in fresh, minerally flavoursome waves with the tang of iodine.

Al naso profumi intensi di frutta bianca che ricordano pera e mela, con note floreali eleganti e piacevoli; in bocca è suadente, caldo nonostante i suoi 14 gradi in etichetta, fresco e sorretto da buona acidità, si apre nel centro bocca e dispiega un lungo finale. Un Trebbiano fuori da ogni schema.

Straw yellow hues that open onto an intense nose of apple and pear touches, with the pleasing elegance of floral notes. The persuasive palate is warm despite a 14-degree label. The fresh mouth is sustained by good acidity, unfolding mid-palate to roll into a long finish. Not a run-of-the-mill Trebbiano at all.

Di colore rosso rubino intenso, al naso svela eleganti note balsamiche, mescolate a sentori di petali di fiore, ciliegie sotto spirito, liquirizia e cioccolato. Al gusto è caldo ma piacevolissimo, con un felice equilibrio tra la grande freschezza e il corpo pieno e generoso.

Intense ruby red colour and a nose revealing stylish balsamic notes, mixed with hints of flower petals, bottled cherries, liquorice and chocolate. On the palate it is warm but exceedingly pleasant, balanced nicely between excellent freshness and a full, generous structure.

Giallo chiaro. Un vino aromatico, intenso. Si distinguono litchies, nettarine, ananas, mandarini, menta piperita, camomilla e timo. Elegante e grasso. Si muove tra morbide sensazioni alcoliche ed una vibrante acidità. Finale ricco di aromi retronasali e sfumature varietali che conducono ad una notevole persistenza.

A pale yellow colour for this aromatic, intense wine with distinct lychee, nectarine, pineapple, tangerine, peppermint, chamomile and thyme notes. It is elegant, buttery and softly alcoholic, with vibrant acidity. The finale is rich in afteraromas and varietal nuances for a lengthy finish.

Nuovo esperimento di Tasca d’Almerita, questo bianco di malvasia secca è vinificato in anticipo rispetto alla versione classica (dolce) e affinato quattro mesi in acciaio; è un vino fresco, di buona acidità, capace di esprimere le note floreali e di erbe aromatiche più tipiche dell’isola.

Tasca d’Almerita decided to try something new and fermented this dry Malvasia white earlier than the classic (sweet) version, ageing for four months in steel. The wine is fresh, nicely acidic, and a fine expression of the island’s quintessential floral and aromatic herby notes.

Giallo paglierino. Si presenta al naso con sentori di fiori gialli, frutta bianca e spezie dolci. All’assaggio è intenso; nonostante la morbidezza sostenuta da componente alcolica, è nel complesso orientato sulle durezze: buona acidità e sapidità che, dall’ingresso in bocca, sconfinano in un finale un po’ amarognolo.

Straw yellow hues that offer nose hinting at yellow blossom, white-fleshed fruit and sweet spices. The flavour is intense and despite plushness sustained by the alcohol note, the overall feel is hard. Good acidity and a tanginess at palate attack break into a slightly tart finish.

D. Arbues: “Nowadays we need to guide consumers towards quality, authenticity and differences. To discover original flavours and fragrances a culture has to be developed, accompanying a sample with tastings to explain the origins of the sugared almond, from topquality raw materials to the packaging processes. This is what we do and are able to open important channels with our consumers, going to the heart of the product.”

A. Arbues: “Certamente la sostanza non esclude la forma: la nostra ricerca va anche nella direzione dello studio della presentazione finale, e in merito siamo molto esigenti. La presentazione finale deve essere la perfetta cornice per i sapori e gli aromi che contiene, solo così si ottiene un prodotto che è allo stesso tempo gioia per gli occhi e delizia per il palato.

A. Arbues: “Certainly substance does not exclude form: our research also aims to develop final presentation and we are very demanding. The presentation must be the perfect setting for the flavours and aromas it contains, which is the only way to achieve a product that is at the same time a joy to behold and a delight for the palate.

Un consiglio? I confetti vanno assaporati masticandoli: una consistenza esterna croccante, un interno - di mandorle od altro - fragrante e morbido, un gusto bilanciato ed equilibrato e la voglia di gustarne subito un altro. Ecco il confetto perfetto”.

Advice? The sugared almonds can only be savoured by chewing them: crispy outside, a fragrant and soft (almond or other) interior, well-balanced taste … and more-ish. That’s the perfect comfit.”
