Voters head to polls tomorrow
Mayor acclaimed, but 29 candidates are vying for seats on council and school board BY

Delta voters head to the polls tomorrow to elect civic councillors and school trustees. Thirteen candidates are running for six spots on Delta council, while 16 are vying for seven Delta school board seats. There is no race for the mayor’s chair as five-term incumbent Lois
Jackson is not being challenged and will be acclaimed. Municipal candidates will be elected for four-year terms for the first time. The council race has seen newcomers campaign on the need for fresh ideas, while incumbents have pointed to their track records. All councillors elected three years ago, with the exception of
Scott Hamilton, who is now the MLA for Delta North, are running again. Advocacy for increased education funding from the provincial government has been the top issue in the school board campaign where six of seven trustees elected in 2011 are seeking re-election. Voting will take place from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. at polling stations throughout the municipality.

the cenotaph at Memorial Park for the annual ceremony to remember those brave men and women who have served our country. Ladner Legion member Greg Olson estimated the audience included over 5,000 people. “In addition, there were more
people lining the parade route than I have seen for any other Remembrance Day,” he said. Fresh on the minds of many this Remembrance Day were the tragic events in Eastern Canada last month. Separate attacks claimed the lives of reservist Cpl.
Nathan Cirillo and W/O Patrice Vincent. Olson said the large turnout was partly the result of last month’s incidents, but he also thinks the near perfect weather conditions were another contributing factor.
The Tsawwassen Legion also held a Remembrance Day service Tuesday afternoon. SCAN WITH TO REVEAL PHOTOS & VIDEO
