The Delta Islanders failed to clinch a berth in the Minto Cup after a 15-13 home floor loss to the New Westminster Salmonbellies Wednesday, but they still lead the B.C. Junior ‘A’ Lacrosse League semi-final series 3-2. See story on Page 20.
The 44th edition of the Tsawwassen Sun Festival gets going tomorrow and continues throughout the B.C. Day long weekend. The summer staple will feature a host of activities, highlighted by the Rotary Club of Tsawwassen Parade, which will make its way along 56th Street Monday morning. Other favourites include the Kids Fun Zone, stage entertainment, car show, antique fair, slo-pitch and volleyball tournaments, marketplace and skateboard competition. A Drive-In Movie Night is a new addition to this year’s fair and takes place at Beach Grove Elementary on Sunday. The scifi classic Back to the Future will be shown. • For more on the Sun Fest, see pages 4 and 15.

agreeing the trade-off is worth saving bog lands still in private hands. “This is a real red letter day,” said Mayor Lois Jackson, her voice cracking with emotion as she described the effort spanning decades to save the bog from development.
Coun. Heather King noted that while it’s not a perfect solution, it’s a reasonable one for the protection of Burns Bog. Similar comments were conveyed by her colleagues, including Coun. Robert Campbell, who described the plan as “a huge net benefit for the Lower
Mainland and citizens of Delta.” Coun. Bruce McDonald said Delta doesn’t have the means to purchase the remaining properties outside the designated conservancy area, so the only way to preserve most of it was to allow some development. PLAN: see Page 3
