Horses find safe place in East Delta Taisce Stables takes in 44 that have been evacuated due to wildfires IAN JACQUES

Victoria Woodcock of Taisce Stables in East Delta tends to one of the miniature horses that was evacuated from the fire zone.

They have opened up their hearts — and their stables — to horses in need of a home. Taisce Stables owners Victoria Woodcock and Crystal McKay have answered the call to help 44 horses, including miniatures, that have been evacuated from Loan Butte and Little Fort due to wildfires. The pair, who took over the old Cambridge Stables on 96th Street in East Delta in May, have been settling in when word started getting out that horse owners needed a place for their animals as they fled the evacuated areas. Woodcock said they were more

than happy to help out. “We only have a few selfboarders and about 20 other horses on the property, so we knew we had the space,” said Woodcock. “Crystal is from the Interior and she recently moved from Kamloops, so we know a lot of the people up there that have horses that needed to be evacuated. This was something very important to us.” Woodcock said they started taking in the evacuated animals about 10 days ago. “I was up in Chase about two weeks ago and I saw the fire situation then. It was just horrible. Luckily we made our way out,” she recalled. SUPPLIES: see Page 3

Ingrid Malmberg (left) and Hailey Lemon will represent the Delta Fire Department at Camp Ignite, which aims to inspire young women to pursue a career in firefighting.

Camp aims to ignite passion

Two Delta girls will see first-hand what it takes to be a firefighter at Camp Ignite IAN JACQUES

i j a c q u e s @ d e l t a - o p t i m i s t .co m

A pair of Delta girls will get to experience firsthand what it takes to be a firefighter at the annual Camp Ignite firefighting camp next month. Ingrid Malmberg from Tsawwassen and Hailey Lemon from North Delta will represent the Delta Fire Department at the four-day camp that helps to educate and inspire young women to follow their dreams. Open to girls in grades 11 and 12, the camp gives

them an introduction to the world of firefighting. Each participant learns about fitness, nutrition, health and team work. The camp runs from Aug. 10 to 13 at a variety of locations throughout Greater Vancouver. Delta deputy fire Chief Guy McKintuck said the department received 12 applications this year, but the two successful applicants stood out from the rest. “Each applicant had to complete an essay on the topic of someone they admired or been men-

tored by in the community or in the world,” said McKintuck. “We were just very impressed with the essays, how both of them presented themselves and their desire and passion to learn more about firefighting. Delta is very proud to have these two applicants representing us this year.” Malmberg already attended a firefighting camp during her spring break. She is hoping the skills she learned then will put her even further ahead when she attends Camp Ignite. “I now have a better

understanding of what is involved,” she said. “I want to do it again and keep learning, keep pushing myself. Firefighting is definitely something that I want to pursue as a career.” For Lemon, learning more about frontline firefighting is her goal of the Camp Ignite experience. “This is a great opportunity to experience that training and see first-hand what is involved,” Lemon said. “I really see this as a career opportunity someday.” McKintuck said the local

department is part of the program so it can encourage young females to get involved in the fire service. “There is a lot more males than females, so we want to get as many females interested as possible and hopefully more in not only our department, but other departments as well,” McKintuck said. “This is a great opportunity. From the past participants, they have all said it has been a very positive experience, so we are hoping more of the same from these two.”

Supplies needed to help care for evacuated horses

CONTINUED from Page 1 “I belong to a number of Facebook groups for horse owners, stable owners, etc. and saw lots of chatter on the B.C. Emergency Livestock Animal Evacuation Group page. That’s when we let everyone know that we had a place available for them.” Woodcock has been able to source extra hay for the animals, but they are in need of other supplies as they expect they might get more animals in the coming days. Some of the essentials they need include: lead ropes, water

buckets, wraps, beet pulp and flatted oats, Alfalfa Pellets and alpha (low sugar). Volunteers are urgently needed as well to help assist with the care and comfort of the animals. “Any help is greatly appreciated,” Woodcock added. “And the evacuation group page on Facebook is also a great source where people can also offer assistance. It’s amazing to see so many people step up to help.” If you would like to help out, contact Woodcock at 778-918-0901.

Mayor still waiting on bridge meetings

Lois Jackson says stopping tunnel replacement project and doing nothing is not an option Delta went so far as to issue a strongly worded news release and followed that with large ads in various newspapers that were headlined: “Politics and misinformation must not stop bridge construction.” “We’re still trying, haven’t had any luck yet,” said Jackson. “I really hope that they can find some time because it’s such an important issue. Stopping and doing nothing isn’t an option. I know that there’s a lot in the province but this one is right on our doorstep and it’s an immediate concern with everything ready to go.” Jackson said Delta officials are not even sure if the preliminary work has been halted because Ministry of Transportation

They’ve got their work cut out for them, says Mayor Lois Jackson, who’s hoping to get face-to-face meetings with Premier John Horgan and Green Leader Andrew Weaver. Saying they want to present the facts and dispel a lot of myths about the George Massey Tunnel Replacement Project, Delta council last week approved sending a report with a large volume of supporting third party documents to every B.C. and Infrastructure staff are keeping tight-lipped. Metro Vancouver has come out in opposition to the $3.5-billion project, stating just one reason is a lack of transparency and consultation with respect to design and business case. Saying all the information and business case is readily available, and that there’s been extensive consultation, including with the City of Richmond, Jackson noted a lot of misinformation being spread simply comes down to politics as other mayors want the dollars for their own projects, even though the Highway 99 corridor and tunnel are not under TransLink’s purview and not part of any

Construction on the George Massey Tunnel Replacement Project got underway earlier this year but its future is in doubt following May’s provincial election. Metro Vancouver Mayors’ Council plans. As far as Richmond’s opposition, Jackson said the fact that Richmond council now says it’s looking for alternatives to the proposed bridge at least acknowledges something has to be done about congestion at the tunnel. When it comes to the

idea of twinning the current crossing with another tunnel, according to one of the third party engineering reports compiled by Delta, a replacement tunnel is more expensive, at $4.3 billion, with more associated risk. A replacement tunnel is also significantly more environmentally damaging

than a bridge as it requires an open river cut of approximately 150 metres in width, Jackson said. NDP leader John Horgan this week said he’d look to solve congestion at the tunnel but, so far, he hasn’t said a bridge project would be officially cancelled as soon as the NDP assumes power.

Truck destroyed in highway fire Driver gets out at red light just before cab is engulfed in flames IAN JACQUES

A cause is still being determined following a semi-truck fire Tuesday. Thick black clouds of smoke could be seen from kilometres away as Delta police officers and firefighters made their way to the scene of the accident just after 6 p.m. According to Delta

police public affairs coordinator Sharlene Brooks, the semi-truck was stopped at a red light on the Highway 91 connector preparing to make a westbound turn onto Highway 17 when the driver noticed smoke coming from the engine. “The driver exited the truck to investigate the source and then the cab suddenly became engulfed

in flames,” said Brooks. “The driver called 911 and a passerby stopped and attempted to assist in putting the fire out with an extinguisher, but was not able to as it was fully engulfed.” The truck was completely destroyed. No injuries were reported. Police closed several lanes to traffic in order to deal with the fire and tow the trailer

from the area. Deputy fire Chief Paul Scholfield said crews had to also deal with leaking diesel fuel. “There wasn’t a concern of fire spread to nearby grass, but the crews did have to work quickly to contain the diesel runoff before it entered the nearby ditches by using absorbent materials,” said Scholfield.

hoosing a cabinet is fraught with problems but new Premier John Horgan did an admirable job balancing a variety of factors, from geography and gender to experience and diversity, when he introduced his team of ministers in Victoria earlier this week. With only 41 MLAs to choose from, B.C.’s 36th premier had only so much wiggle room, evidenced by the fact he appointed all four NDP MLAs outside of Greater Vancouver and Vancouver Island to the 22-person cabinet. If I have a beef with the composition of cabinet is that it’s Vancouvercentric. The NDP won eight of the city’s 11 ridings in May’s provincial election and six of those victorious candidates now have portfolios, which means Vancouver, which makes up roughly 13 per cent of B.C.’s population, has 27 per cent of the seats at the new cabinet table. Throw in Surrey’s three new cabinet ministers and those two cities combine to make up 40 per cent of the inner circle. Does this not sound a lot like the Metro Vancouver board, the one that tends to focus on the two biggest cities in the region at the expense of others? Horgan has made a point of saying his government will work for every British Columbian, a reference primarily used in economic terms, but as we move forward this refrain could apply geographically too. The new gang in Victoria is well represented in certain areas, but not others, which has the ability, if left unchecked, to leave great swaths of this province in the wilderness. Given the limited number of MLAs to choose from in a minority government, geographic representation isn’t easy, which is why Christy Clark’s onemonth cabinet had as many ministers from Langley and Prince George (two each) as it did from Vancouver. The new NDP government has much on its plate, from election promises to simmering issues to full-blown wildfires, but as it goes about its business it must recognize there’s more to B.C. than select parts of the Lower Mainland and Vancouver Island. The election results didn’t give Horgan the luxury of selecting a more geographically diverse cabinet, but through his actions over the next four years (or however long his term lasts) he has the ability to include everyone.

Liberals’ bridge project must be scrutinized by new gov’t

T

his past week, the Corporation of Delta took out several full page ads in local and regional newspapers to extoll the virtues of replacing the 629-metre George Massey Tunnel with a bridge that is five times the length. These ads accompany a report put out by Delta’s own CAO George Harvie. I am going to set aside the question of improper use of municipal funds to focus on Delta’s presentation. In that report, Harvie makes several very strong claims that are not supported by the evidence he presents. The stated goal of the report is to try to convince the incoming government not to examine the bridge proposal. It urges the NDP-Green alliance to not bother scrutinizing the largest infrastructure project in B.C. and to trust that the Liberals followed due process. Delta is asking John Horgan to turn a blind eye to a project that will end up costing up to $12 billion after financing. Remember, Christy Clark announced the bridge in 2013, years before any inquiry was done to evaluate alternative options. Also remember, the real cost of the bridge was purposely withheld by the Liberals and redacted in the project’s public documents. Where is the due process? Despite this, Delta still thinks

Community Comment NICHOLAS WONG

all necessary information is publicly available. Our rookie MLA even went so far as to say this practice of redacting documents and withholding information, like the bridge proposal has, is “just how you do business.” What I found most disturbing in the report is the way in which quotations from 2007 and 2004 engineering reports are taken out of context and presented as evidence to support claims from 1989. Somehow, Delta can pay tens of thousands of our tax dollars to call out others for spreading rumours and misinformation, but turns around and uses statements from a report more than 28 years old as evidence for its position. There were supposed to be two phases of seismic upgrades to address those exact concerns. According to the 2007 EVM

report that is quoted extensively, the second phase of seismic upgrades would have addressed the seismic concerns for a total cost of $26.3 million. This is a number the Liberals and our rookie MLA decried as “prohibitively expensive.” This means that to save $26.3 million, the Ministry of Transportation and the Liberal government subjected our community to the “potential for a catastrophic failure of the tunnel.” This is by no means the extent to the unjustifiable information being put forth by those in favour of a bridge. They can continue to call this misinformation all they want, but all I did was take the time to read their own documents. After years of research and extensively reading the documents presented on the bridge proposal, I understand how drastically any replacement option will impact our community. If anyone has any information that I do not have or questions about where or how I derive my facts, please get in touch. Letters

FOOT Lot of worrying going on over crossing CARE Editor: Based on reading various letters in the Optimist and other Lower Mainland newspapers, one or more of several impending disasters/concerns are just around the corner. One, the George Massey Tunnel is on its last legs and transiting it daily is a hazard to be avoided if possible; the ground upon which the proposed bridge replacement will be founded is unstable and might collapse in the event

of an earthquake, and that earthquake is destined to arrive anytime. Toss into the mix a demand that a public hearing on the Fraser River crossing be held and that the local residents – who, according to one resident, claims have not been consulted – be heard and that such an important point not be left in the hands of the elected council. Others wonder about visitors from afar see-

Reader isn’t sure that the whole story has been told about angry motorist

Editor: Re: Angry motorist creates a dangerous situation, letter to the editor, July 12 Over 60 years of driving on everything from backwoods logging roads to California freeways has taught me that there are always three sides to every motoring story: pro, con and the facts. I’ve seen motorists angry because some yahoo cut in front of them and I’ve seen motorists angry because some pushy tailgater was tiding

their bumper so close that his bumper could not be seen. Never have I seen a driver become angry because someone simply changed lanes and was now behind him with plenty of room to spare between cars. Why would anyone be angry at such a move? Dr. Nicholas Harrison tells us he had “ample room to enter the right lane,” but ample is often a matter of opinion. I’d like to hear the other driver’s version of the incident. G.A. Simpson

ing just how out-of-date and dilapidated the current system is and refuse to show their visitors Vancouver because to do so means using the tunnel. On top of that, others wonder why the tunnel, at about 60 years old, is thought to be on the way out when tunnels in other countries that are much older remain in pristine shape with no local worries about collapsing. Interesting to note is that such might be seen as

the proverbial mixing of apples and oranges, which only produces a fruit salad but no positive result. Add to the debate is the worry about the existing road system; will it survive an earthquake? And what about the idea that only one Greater Vancouver [I like the older term] area mayor has expressed concern about the tunnel and congestion. Then there’s the greed of all other local mayors and their lust for funds to cover off their

favourite, self-interest projects. There are other points that pop up on a seemingly routine basis but fail to satisfy all. It is becoming more and more difficult to rise in the morning due to the ever-increasing real or imagined problems that confront each of us daily. Where will it all end, one wonders? As Alfred E. Neuman oftentimes said, “What, me worry?” Bob Orrick

Taxpayer has trouble believing civic officials’ bridge claims Editor: Re: Tunnel must be replaced, July 12 Just finished reading this article and would have trouble believing anything the Mayor Lois Jackson and CAO George Harvie have to say. I will quote Harvie: “… only a fraction of vehicles using the tunnel during peak periods are big rigs.” Look at the photo that accompanies this story. I count 10 trucks for 40 to 50 cars; that’s 20 to 25 per cent. I wish I could get that return on my investments. Also, Harvie said a sec-

ond tunnel would cost around $4.3 billion but the mayor on CKNW said it will cost $5 billion. I really hope if the mayor sends a delegation to meet with the leaders they notify them we are a big city. We would hate to repeat what happened in Rotterdam. Also when the delegation was in Rotterdam did it look into what they are doing with their tunnels or are they just using Liberal studies? I don’t understand the mayor’s obsession with a bridge. local daytime band has a new name and is on the move to a new home. The Loades of Music Concert Band recently wrapped up its first year based out of the McKee Seniors Recreation Centre. The group, formerly known as the McKeesical

Daytime Concert Band, has outgrown its space there, says conductor Ellie Loades, noting membership has risen to 30. “We’ve had to find another venue to practice in,” she says. When the band, which is grateful for having been able to use space at McKee, starts up again in September, it will remain in Ladner and will practice out of Saviour Lutheran

Church. The band’s new name reflects the amount of music it plays at each session and is also tribute to Loades, explains founder Sheila Yip. The group plays a lot of “popular stuff” along with a bit of classical and Broadway favourites, says Loades. “We play a lot of music,” she says. Band member Janet

Drew, who plays the trombone, says while the group includes everyone from beginners to experienced musicians, everyone gets along. “We’re all here for the same reason, to have fun,” Drew says. She plays in other groups like the Delta Music Makers and Vancouver Traveling Band and still finds the time to be a part of the Loades of

Music Concert Band. The Loades of Music Concert Band will begin its second season on Thursday, Sept. 14. The band will be meeting Thursdays from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Saviour Lutheran Church, 473757th St. The local group is welcoming new members and can be reached via email at loadesofmusic@gmail. com.

Tsawwassen’s Maggie Stewart is having a blast being part of Carousel Theatre for Young People’s annual Teen Shakespeare Program. The South Delta Secondary student has a title role in Romeo and Juliet, which opens next Friday on Granville Island. “It’s great to get that real theatre experience,” says Stewart, 14, noting the program has a professional feel to it and the actors aren’t treated like young kids. and text analysis toward a fully-staged public performance, a press release explains. “It’s really exciting,” she says. Playing Juliet in the tragic tale of star-crossed

lovers is definitely a challenge, Stewart says. “She goes through a lot at such a young age.” This is Stewart’s first time in a production of a Shakespearean play. Actor, director and theatre educator Mike Stack is leading a cast of 15 teen actors. Romeo and Juliet runs from July 28 to Aug. 12 at 7:30 p.m. at the Performance Works Outdoor Stage, 1218 Cartwright St., Vancouver. Admission is free but advance reservations are available for $5. Be intentional

“What, then, shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?” Romans 8:31 Everyday life requires us to respond to things that are happening around us, but as believers in Jesus Christ, being intentional allows you to choose your response even before things happen. We should be intentional with our words, our actions and our faith. Being intentional helps us to makes decisions today that go ahead and help shape the future. When we are intentional about who we listen to, about the places we go or don’t go, about what we value, we remove the distracting power of reactive living, which can throw

us off course with every changing situation or opinion. The world we live in is reactive. Therefore, as the church we need to become more proactive about our purpose, keeping in mind, “If God is for us, who can

be against us?” We should intentionally target our prayers towards God’s faithfulness rather than allowing circumstances to hijack them. Being intentional with the tasks about His purpose, to love others as He loves us, rather than wait for permission to love. Your confession should move from casual to intentional. What are you purposely, deliberately and intentionally going to confess, seek and do this month? Paul intentionally chose to be obedient to God’s calling during his hardest times. David chose in the best of times to praise God. We need to become those who are less casual and be more intentional.

At the beginning of June, the people of St. David’s Anglican Church on 51A Street in Tsawwassen welcomed me as their new pastor. For this I am grateful. They are reminding me once again of the value of community. Recently the congregation conducted its annual Vacation Bible School, with children both from within and outside the parish. Older kids served as leaders. Parents, grandparents and other adults participated too. On the last day, we conducted an outdoor service — all the generations were together, including many from our seniors’ group — to make up a multigenerational community. This experience of community occurs less and less in our society. Families are often scattered, people move to different locations and jobs, neighbours often don’t

know each other and there’s a sense of isolation. Social media helps, but it’s not the physical presence and intergenerational experience common in previous times. However, church — and synagogue, temple, mosque, as well as native circle — does provide this experience of SUBMITTED PHOTO community, Rev. Book exchanges at parks Delta and the Rotary Club of Tsawwassen are teaming up to start a community book exchange. Delta council this week gave the go-ahead for the installation and operation of book exchanges at four Tsawwassen parks — Grauer Park, Beach Grove Mini-Park, Pebble Hill Park and Diefenbaker Park. The units will be provided and maintained by

the Rotary. The Tsawwassen units will be mounted on posts and secured to concrete bases similar to a park bench on a concrete pad. The units will also include a door and brief description of the community book exchange network. The club’s operational responsibilities will include the maintenance of each unit and the management of the content.

Earthwise Society is offering a day-long Discovery Tour next week to provide a unique opportunity for people to participate in, and learn about, programs that work with nature to promote health and well-being. For the past three years, Earthwise has offered therapeutic horticulture programs that purposefully connect individuals with their environment through a range of garden and farm-based activities. The programs have reached out to caregivers from families impacted by mental health or substance use to improve health and reduce isolation through shared activities in a community garden setting. Working in teams or in small groups, participants have reported gaining a profound sense of peace, satisfaction and well-being through their regular interactions with the natural world. Tigers look to defend title Bantam AAA squad is a top seed for next weekend’s provincials in Richmond IAN JACQUES

i j a c q u e s @ d e l t a - o p t i m i s t .co m

Solid pitching, timely hitting and sound defence have been the keys to success this season for the Delta AAA Bantam Tigers and they hope that continues next weekend in Richmond. The Tigers will be looking to defend their title starting July 27 at the BC Minor Baseball Provincial Championships. On the strength of a 24-7-1 regular season, which wrapped up Monday night with a pair of 11-0 wins over Nanaimo, Delta is one of the two top seeds in the tournament. The Tigers will open play against Kelowna

and then either Victoria or Nanaimo depending on who wins a wild-card playoff game this weekend. Then next Friday Delta plays Vancouver, a team it’s had a lot of success against, and finish up round robin play Saturday against Chilliwack, who the Tigers have gone 5-1 against. “Being the top seed on our side of the bracket means we can throw our two top guys Thursday and then have them back and ready to go for the playoffs on Sunday,” said head coach Cam Frick. “The other lower seeds in the bracket have extra games Saturday, so that could play to our advantage. We have a deep pitching staff, so it’s not really a concern,

but just the same, being able to line up the guys is certainly a good thing.” Frick said it has been a solid season so far. The Tigers are a young team with six first-year players, but Frick said they have adapted well to the higher caliber of play. “We have been able to compete at the top of our league. The team has delivered, so hopefully we can finish up strong,” he said. Last weekend Delta hosted the Baseball BC provincial qualifier at Winskill Park with the winner going to the provincials in Parksville. Delta had a tough weekend, losing 6-5 to Vancouver, 4-1 to Chilliwack and 6-5 to the

Westcoast Cardinals, with their only win coming against Cloverdale by a score of 4-3. “Last weekend was a struggle offensively. The pitching was good and so was our defence at times, but a few errors really cost us,” Frick said. “We were hoping to qualify, but it just didn’t pan out, so now the attention turns to the provincials in Richmond. That was our main goal, to qualify for our league provincials and have a chance to defend our title.” The winner of the provincials will also represent B.C. at an international tournament in New York/ New Jersey later in the summer. “Don’t want to look too

far ahead, but that would be a great experience for sure,” Frick added. “With us, everything comes with a solid start. At the beginning of the year we were winning games pretty handily and it was because we were getting on the other team in the first inning. We weren’t giving them a break. Lately in the games we have been struggling in we’ve been getting out early and allowing the pitchers easy at-bats. “We need to still be aggressive at the plate, but wait for our pitch to be successful. Hopefully last weekend’s play is a wakeup call in that we just can’t expect to show up and win, we have to work for it.”

Annual Jog for a Jug in the Point raises $1,800 for Kidsport Delta

More than 200 runners and walkers recently braved a challenging 11.2-kilometre fun run around Point Roberts at the 36th annual Jog for a Jug. The event has been organized by the RunInn Delta in Tsawwassen for the past 10 years. Kidsport Delta was the charity of choice this year

and will receive $1,800 thanks to the support of the participants. “The race is an old school fun run,” said RunInn owner Kevin Ridley. “Everyone who finishes the race gets a jug of beer at the Reef and we have a barbecue, prizes and great music. Almost everyone stays after the run as this is the ‘fun’ part

of the run.” This year the race was won by Joshua Weiss of Team Mario’s and the women’s race was won by Meagan Kwiatkowski, who also won the couples category with her partner Ryan Merkel. Check out the runinn. com and its Facebook page for more Jog for a Jug results.

OUR TESTIMONIALS SPEAK FOR THEMSELVES! When we called Fraser Elliott it was only a matter of hours that he and Garrett, his teammate, were at our door to view the property and to set an asking price. They were very efficient and helpful. They sold our home within a week and we were amazed at their expertise and handling of the sale. Thank you so much Fraser's team for all your hard work. Well done! - J&H The Fraser Elliott group has been a pleasure to work with (again). I am a repeat customer who is impressed by their attentiveness, responsiveness and their knowledge. Jennifer has been a wonderful help in supporting the sale and purchase process working tirelessly to ensure that I was able to get the best price and that all the dates lined up. I am so thankful to have her on my team. I would recommend Jennifer and the rest of the team to anyone I know and be confident in the level of service and expertise they provide to clients. - Kari Our family wanted to let you know how excited we are the house is sold. Steve and I wanted to thank each of you from the start with meeting Garrett as well as the stager and photographer getting house ready. First phone call from Amber for showing. Thanks Rachel and Julie for the many showings. Thanks Jen for the many phone calls and working really hard, even late at night and getting offer completed, which Garrett was part of too. Fraser, you and your team really care and will be well recommended from us! - Peachey family Garrett gave an appraisal for my home and I considered other realtors, but Garrett's straightforward approach and no pressure attitude led me to list with him. I had reservations about selling during the winter especially after the major snowstorms we have experienced. They sent out a photographer who had to wade in a foot of snow to photograph the outside and despite the weather, the realtor's open house still took place shortly after. It was a roller coaster ride of negotiations which Garrett and Jennifer navigated with great skill and professionalism. The end result was the house was sold in a week. Overall, it was a great experience with the Fraser Elliott Real Estate Group. Well done. I would definitely recommend the Fraser Elliott Group to others. - Don W

To the Fraser Elliott Team, I'd like to thank you for a job well done selling my house. Your team is very professional and competent. No matter what questions I had, you people got back to me immediately with the answers and confirmed by other members of your team. You were always easy to reach, and your expertise and knowledge was very much appreciated. I would highly recommend your team to anyone needing a Realtor. PS. The free moving van was a surprise and really helped, Thank You. - Ralph Rasmussen I'd like to say we developed a great relationship with Fraser's team while we went through the sales process, but the truth is we didn't have time. It was a week from signing up with the team to signing the sale documents! What more can we say? A professional team that executes on their promise like a well oiled machine! They make magic. Bench strength we never imagined. No wonder they are award winning! Not using them would really be your loss. Choosing Fraser's team was the best decision we could have made. Thank you Fraser, Garrett, Julie, Amber, Rachel, James the photographer, and Kashmir the stager. You far exceeded our expectations. We're sold!! - Ray and Joanne M The Fraser Elliott Team, l'd like to take this opportunity to extend my gratitude to you and your entire staff on what l consider to be an outstanding job on the sale of my condo. From our first meeting you told me that you would treat the sale of my condo the same way you would handle selling a $3 million home. You and your team stood by your word and did exactly that. I couldn't be happier! With the extremely tight window time you and your team was working with you made it all fit together. An outstanding performance by you all and my thanks and gratitude for all your hard work. I feel privileged to have met and worked together with such a congenial group as yourselves and will pass my positive recommendations on the appropriate people. Thanks again for the outstanding effort you all put in for me. Sincerely, - Dave Ennis

Our experience working with the Fraser Elliott group was excellent. We were very happy with all aspects of the service provided - sales agent, photographer and staging advice. Everything we needed was done in a very efficient manner and we were always kept in the loop about what was happening. Phil was a great sales agent. He was always on time, always answered my questions and was professional and honest. He was always upbeat and positive as well as thoughtful and understanding. As a busy mom with three little kids at home, Phil always took my concerns seriously and worked to accommodate our needs. I was very happy with our experience and I recommend Fraser Elliott Group to friends and family in the future! - Sara Raouf Thank you to the Fraser Elliott group for selling our townhouse. We were really impressed with our initial meeting with Garrett, with the staging consultation and with the professional photographs taken of our townhouse. A great big thank you to Julie, Rachel, Jennifer and Amber. They worked really hard on all of our showings and promptly got back to us to let us know the outcome after each one. We would highly recommend the Fraser Elliott group to anyone looking to sell their home. - Bryant and Heather

#7 RE/MAX速 TEAM IN CANADA IN 2016**

I highly recommend the Fraser Elliott team . They are very professional and keep you posted continually . They did an amazing job to get us the best price possible for our house including providing a stager. - Linda Nash We couldn't be happier with the experience we had selling our house with Fraser Elliott group! Everything was done in an efficient way, from the staging, professional photos, showings and negotiations. Philip did a great job selling the place and Garrett was able to negotiate the deal we wanted. All in two weeks! If we ever need to sell again we know where to go! - Liselott and Mike McFarlane

August 6, 1923 July 8, 2017

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Dr. Karl Heinz Gemeinhardt, peacefully at home with the love of his family around him. His beloved wife, Rosemarie, predeceased Karl in 2007. Karl will be greatly missed by many: daughters Susan (Ben), Christine (Fernand), Tina (Kevin) and Melanie; grandchildren Emily, David, Oliver and Sophia, Alexandre and Melissa, Liam and Aidan; sister-in-law Ursula; nephews Peter (Yvonne) and Tom (Marianne); nieces Claudia (Tim), Rina (Keith) and Mimi; as well as many treasured family and friends in North America and Germany. Special thanks to Dr Horst Hollinger, who understood our father and cared for him, as well as for his health. Dad had a long and full life. Immigrating to Canada from Germany in 1950, he and Rosemarie lived in Toronto, then Edmonton, Calgary and finally upon discovering Vancouver settled here. Karl and Rosemarie worked hard to build a good life and home in Canada. He was a gentleman. He loved his chosen profession of dentistry, loved history, exploring the world, being in nature and fishing. Dad loved spending time at the family cabin and winter holidays in Hawaii. Most of all he loved his family. His greatest pleasure was to have his extended family in his home where he would tell stories of his life. He followed the lives of each grandchild with great interest and all in his circle knew they were loved.
