Delta police officers came out to support one of their own at the Canadian Blood Services donor clinic in Ladner Wednesday afternoon. Const. Jordan MacWilliams and his wife Stephanie, who is a constable with the Vancouver Police Department, could never have imagined they would be recipients of a blood donation until a medical emergency last year almost changed their lives. Stephanie was in Langley Memorial Hospital to give birth to their second child. She was scheduled to have a C-section, but went into labour early. Everything appeared well in hand, but what should have been a routine procedure turned into a critical medical situation. “I had a hysterectomy. My bladder was cut, my ureter severed and my external iliac artery severed,” Stephanie recalled. “I was given six units of blood in Langley and then transferred to Royal Columbian where I received 30-plus more units.” Doctors told Jordan to prepare for the worst as there was a chance of brain damage, loss of a limb — even death. But thanks to the blood donations, she pulled through, waking up the next day in the ICU. MACWILLIAMS: see Page 3
