This year, we’re celebrating five years of design excellence.
As always, the DENFAIR team works year-round to deliver an exhibition that inspires creativity, generates meaningful industry connections and advances the design conversation in Australia. We take pride in producing a world-class event which is fast becoming a must-do on the global design calendar, and attracting international design authority Wallpaper* as our 2019 Principal Media Partner.
Our Awards program still acknowledges the most innovative stands, products and ideas within our exhibiting community, and shines a light on emerging design with Front | Centre. And though we have now grown to accommodate 300+ brands under one roof, the unparalleled quality of stands and products ensures that each show feels as carefully curated as its first. So what’s new? In 2019, we launch our LIFE WORK campaign, which takes shape as a major new workspace precinct for first-time commercial exhibitors. Here you’ll find design solutions to bring function and personality to both home and office, tailored to today’s mobile professional. At the core of this area, #futurework, an immersive installation by Futurespace, hints at a way forward for the Australian workplace. Elsewhere, curated by DENFAIR’s first editor, Sandra Tan, the Speaker Series presents a stellar lineup of local and international design talent with expertise across the spectrum – spatial, product, commercial and cultural. This program is proudly presented by DENFAIR’s Speaker Program Major Partner, Clipsal by
And while a lot has changed in that time, a few key things remain constant.
Schneider Electric, whose support enables all talks to remain free of charge, for the whole duration of the show. We hope you enjoy the next three days of fascinating discussion, products as beautiful as they are ingenious, ambitious installations and abundant opportunities to connect with our design community. CLIPSAL
Wired for Innovation
What happens when a historic Aussie brand meets with French innovation? Find out what Clipsal has in store for DENFAIR 2019, as we speak to Xavier Lifran, Director of Schneider Electric’s Pacific Design Lab.
14
At DENFAIR’s Speaker Series, you’ll have two opportunities to hear directly from Xavier himself, as he takes the floor for a solo Masterclass on electrical innovation, and joins his colleague Mark Jeisman, Business Development Manager, Digital Buildings, for a discussion on the intersection between design and technology. Clipsal by Schneider Electric is the Major Partner for DENFAIR’s 2019 Speaker Series, and their support enables all talks to remain free of charge, for the duration of the show. 12:30 Friday 21 June Clipsal Design Stories How can electrical innovation help curate unique experiences for different personalities? Explore the new possibilities available through technology with Xavier Lifran, Pacific Design Lab Director at Schneider Electric. 5pm Friday 21 June Stay Current: The Potential of Electrical Design A deep dive into how technology could be better incorporated into our spaces to enable us to live more fluidly. Hear from two electrical experts at the forefront of design. Moderated by DENFAIR editor, Sandra Tan.
With a near century-long legacy in Australia, Clipsal remains an enduring champion of intelligent design. In recent years, the brand has continued to evolve, becoming part of French energy management and industrial automation specialists, Schneider Electric, in 2003. Leading Clipsal’s brand design is Director of Schneider Electric’s Pacific Design Lab, Xavier Lifran. “Our aim is to create a radical identity which respects Clipsal’s long history, soon to be 100 years old, but also highlights the new innovative products and technologies that see the brand continue to lead in electrical accessories, and be a major player in smart home control and data communication,” Xavier says. While Clipsal by Schneider Electric is its own unique brand with a distinctly local focus, Xavier suggests some crossover between the two groups.
while Essence features a natural timber edge. His Good Design Award-winning Saturn Zen elevates the utilitarian light switch into a design element with minimalist appeal, and continuing in this elegant simplicity is the Zen Fan, a sculptural solution to temperature control both in and outdoors. All of these, and more, will feature on Clipsal by Schneider Electric’s first-ever stand at DENFAIR 2019. “Likening myself to a curator, I do not try to define my own industrial design style. Instead, I believe the key to good design is to tell stories relevant to the audience,” Xavier says. “Our stand will demonstrate how we put our clients at the heart of what we do.”
“For instance, in the same home you might find an electric vehicle charging station by Schneider Electric, alongside switches and sockets by Clipsal,” he explains. “The same reliability, ease of use and ingenuity lead our design thinking, but Clipsal design is dedicated to the Australian culture and lifestyle.” This contemporary interpretation of the Australian aesthetic comes to play in a number of unique pieces designed by Xavier for Clipsal by Schneider Electric. His and his teams work on the Iconic range of switches is distinguished by unexpected detail - Styl, with its industrial aluminium finish, is cool to the touch, 15

Speaker Space
Curated by Sandra Tan
Arthur Koutoulas returns to DENFAIR with yet another original, immersive installation.
Sandra has had a voice in the Australian design media for the past six years, with editorial credits including such titles as Indesign, Habitus, Mezzanine, Inside, Australian Design Review and AR Asia Pacific.
Designed exclusively for the show, this purpose-built forum will house the industry’s most compelling voices in an intimate, acoustically engineered space. Modular seating and wall elements made entirely of foam showcase the limitless sculptural potential of an unassuming material. Joyce Foam Products have once again created a uniquely tactile environment best experienced firsthand. The Speaker Space is proudly supported by Joyce Foam Products and Polyflor.
She has written for award-winning architects and small creative studios, and enjoys using her words to support the local design community in all its forms. As the first-ever DENFAIR editor, Sandra seeks greater diversity in the stories we tell, and design which champions inclusivity and equality.

Making meaningful connections
The DIA 2018 Denfair activation created a space that drew on a biophilic research report developed by our partner Woodsolutions. Photo by Raquel Betiz.
Members of the Design Institute of Australia shape the future of our design community and stay better connected. Through meaningful connections, DIA community members are able to step up and champion their own programs and events, widen their personal recognition and represent their views and those of the
organization on both small and large scale platforms. Both professionals and students have opportunities to be connected with industry suppliers and global networks of practitioners through leadership roles.
