Since 1964, MOKE has been the must-have cult vehicle for the freespirited, fun-loving driver.

Its iconic design has hardly changed since the sixties when it first started turning heads in the French Riviera and the Caribbean, with everyone from Brigitte Bardot to Roger Moore’s Bond seen behind the wheel. Reinvented in 2018, MOKE’s mission was to create the most fun possible with the smallest carbon footprint. Between 1964 and 1968, 14,518 Mini MOKEs were built in Birmingham before production moved to Australia, where a further 26,000 Morris, Leyland and Californian Mini MOKEs were assembled from 1966 to 1981.

Following years of limited production in Portugal, Italy and China, in 2012 Alain Edery of Cool Car Rentals in St Barths enlisted Charles Vere Nicoll and Anthony Vaughan to acquire the rights to distribute MOKE in the Caribbean, ultimately buying the assets and forming MOKE International in 2015. Renowned designer Michael Young was brought on-board in 2018 to reengineer the MOKE with the chassis once again built in England, while production, assembly and painting was done in France. And in 2020? Hendy Group was appointed the UK dealer for MOKE International. MOKE HENDY

In October 2020 we were delighted to announce we had been appointed the UK dealer for MOKE. Ever since MOKE announced plans to relaunch in the UK, interest was understandably high, especially for the limited-edition MOKE 56. It shares much of its chassis design with the original Austin Mini-based vehicles but with upgraded suspension, a new 66bhp 1.1-litre fourcylinder engine, improved brakes and the choice of manual or automatic gearbox. We welcomed MOKE International CEO Isobel Dando to our showroom in Poole for the official opening of the dealership.

She said: “It is important for MOKE International to work with a UK dealer which has the infrastructure to support our launch back into the UK and which shares our enthusiasm and passion for the brand. “We are looking forward to a long and successful partnership with Hendy in MOKE’s home market.”

MOKE ELECTRIC

MOKE International’s values are those of good, clean fun – and nowhere will that be more evident than in the MOKE Electric.

With a release date still to be confirmed at the time of print, the MOKE Electric’s concept stage specifications cite the same cabriolet body type, this time with a 10 kWh Lithium Iron Phosphate (LiFePO4) — LFP battery capable of an impressive 150km range and top speed of 110km.
