Victoria’s secrets Victoria Beckham’s insight for achieving success.
G
one are the Posh Spice references, and in their place lies a super-chic, glam, and successful female entrepreneur. The mum of four has successfully reinvented herself, proving her critics wrong by building an internationally renowned and respected fashion brand. “For a long time there, I was a bit of a laughingstock,” she told Business of Fashion. “And while everybody was busy laughing, what was I doing? I was laying the foundation to what I have in place now.” Work Her hard work has paid off. The decorated designer was crowned Britain’s most successful entrepreneur of 2014 thanks to “her finely tuned business acumen,” and even the industry’s top fashion critics praise Beckham for creating a signature style that’s all her own. In 2013, the Victoria Beckham brand turned over £30 million in sales (about $50 million), which according to Business of Fashion was up 91% from the previous year. Considering the Beckhams don’t really need the money—
the couple’s estimated fortune is about $590 million—Victoria’s crazy schedule is hard to believe, but she clearly has a passion for fashion. Revealing quotes “Sometimes I just want to scream, because I’m not sure how you are meant to do it all. I’m sure there are a lot of working mums out there. It’s tough when you’re trying to juggle,” she said. “I have a good team that helps me manage everything, so that I can be at all the school plays and also be at the office on time. With all the parents meetings and soccer matches, there are a lot of people who help me make all of this possible. I’m not doing any of this on my own.” “It’s important to start off in the right way and be very humble, grateful, thankful and appreciative.” “I’m very realistic. I know my boundaries I know what I’m good at and what I’m not good at.”
“I was never a natural. I got there in the end because I did believe that if you work hard enough, then you can achieve alot.”

Melting Glaciers ince the late 1900’s, the rate of glacier retreat in arctic regions has begun to accelerate dramatically. Montana’s Glacier National Park has only 27 glaciers today, compared to 150 in 1910. Large areas of ice are melting at a gradually increasing rate, leading to knockon effects felt around the world. If glaciers continue to retreat at the current rate, we could see increased flooding in the short-term followed by long-term droughts in certain areas of the world. That, coupled with an increasing sea level, means that this effect of climate change is not to be taken lightly. Forest Fires / Wildfires As drought and decreased rainfall lead to a warmer and drier climate, the risk of forest fires is obviously increased. This is an effect we’ve seen around the world, and an outcome that impacts our health and safety directly. Some experts are attributing an increase in wildfires to climate change at this stage, others are saying that a more direct link will become apparent in the future.
Extreme Weather The likelihood of extreme weather conditions increases in various different areas - cyclones, drought, and high sea levels. In addition, the gradual increase of sea temperature is leading to devastating effects on coral reefs - 1998 was the worst year ever recorded for coral reef “bleaching”. Methane Release There are various peat bogs scattered around the world, currently covered in large areas of “permafrost” - a layer of ice which prevents this relatively toxic gas being released into our atmosphere. As these areas of ice begin to melt, increased quantities of methane are being released, further contributing to the build-up of greenhouse gases in our atmosphere. How Can I Help? Why not plan one of your next photography trips to an area of the world that is experiencing the effects of global warming, and try to capture a few impacting images. Photographers can make a real difference, helping to spread the word and educate others.

Prince at peace The Purple Reign reaches its conclusion.
W
ords be but a blunt instrument to describe the prolific genius of such a multi talented and unique musician. Only part way through a year that has already lost us a notable number of beloved artists, Prince died on 21/4/16 at the young age of 57. The surprise shock of his passing leaves an eerie silence. But, take a moment to look at the back catalogue of such epic, ground breaking and influential music. The silence is replaced with a kaleidoscope of breathtaking composition and pop music mastery. Prince Rogers Nelson, known by his mononym Prince, an American singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and actor. A major figure in popular music for over three decades. Renowned as an innovator and is widely known for his eclectic work, flamboyant stage presence, and broad vocal range. Widely regarded as the pioneer of Minneapolis sound. His music combines rock, R&B, soul, funk, hip hop, disco, psychedelia, jazz, and pop. Seeing Prince perform live made you aware that some artists are quite literally born to do it. Few performers have as many of their entertainment weapons all charged and loaded to such a degree. After being stunned
by a flawless performance, the encore would render you slain. Global superstars are seldom forgotten and if a man means to imprint his mark on the world, his relentless creative output certainly put pay to the task. Much has been speculated on ‘The Vault’. An impregnable safe archive at Paisley Park believed to contained over a thousand unreleased songs. Many of which are rumoured to equal the genius of some The Artist’s published material. This ‘Vault’ enticingly adding to the mystique of a man who remained very private throughout a career that featured all too common struggles between artist and record label. Emancipation. Prince broke away from the constraints of label Warner Brothers - gaining much sort after control of his music’s translation. A conclusion that highlights an often sordid battle between artist and label, but transpires with a victory for artistic licence, principle and integrity. A sense even, of freedom. His journey was decorated with colourful dashes of philanthropy, bold expression and wild stage exhibitionism despite his contrasting shyness and small stature. RIP.
