No fuss build delivers for Dental @ Marsden

There’s an old saying that it’s best to leave certain things to the experts. That has certainly proven to be true in the case of Dental @ Marsden, a relatively new practice established in the rapidly growing northwest Sydney suburb of Marsden Park.

Part of the Elara Village Shopping Centre, Dental @ Marsden was established by a group of passionate dentists, led by Dr Ben Huang.

When it came time to build a brand-new practice, Dr Huang called in the experts and says he couldn’t be happier with the final result.

He chose Commodore Dental & Medical Fitouts. In Dr Huang’s words: “They’re the best”.

“I know from previous experience of dental fit-outs, the whole process from designing, DA approvals to delegation of trades can be a headache and takes away a lot of precious clinical time to service patients. But with Commodore, I didn’t have to do anything. I just paid them to do the job and it was absolutely no problem. In just a matter of weeks, it was all done.

“I’m not an interior designer so I left it to the professionals. I didn’t even need to give them a brief. [Commodore principal] Craig Exley came up with a beautiful design that is functional and looks new and modern.

The workflow is good, the light is good and it’s simplistic but also appealing.”

Dr Huang said having a nice practice makes for a good working environment and makes good business sense. “We have a dentist and four staff there and everyone is happy.

“Patients like an upmarket looking practice and these days expect new surgeries to look nice. The feedback from patients has been really good and they say it’s a really nice place.

“The practice also reflects what sort of dentist you are and sets expectations among patients about the standard of care they will receive. You wouldn’t get new patients in a run-down surgery.”

Commodore’s approach uses a well-proven combination of contemporary colours and textures, yet always manages to combine the elements in a unique, individual way so no two practices are exactly alike.

The style pallet combines the warmth and appeal of natural finishes like richly grained marble and timber, with bold charcoal and contrasting materials like copper and brass.

Dental @ Marsden also features bold geometric honeycomb patterns framing a contrasting light and dark marble effect feature wall to striking effect.

Vertical timber slats add interest to the reception area walls and key in perfectly with the eaves outside the building.

Inside, clear and frosted glass, including the front door with its embossed tooth logo, are used to good effect to introduce natural light inside the building.

Workflow is assisted by a wide hallway and a dedicated nook for a CEREC milling machine and phosphor plate scanner, providing rapid and easy access for the dental team. The hallway also accesses a centrally located sterilisation room and staff amenities beyond that.

Like many of Commodore’s builds, this one excels in utilising every inch of space to fit in all the equipment needed in modern dentistry but without feeling cluttered.

Cabinetry is another hallmark of Commodore Dental & Medical Fitouts’ repertoire, with bespoke cabinets designed using CAD/CAM and precision cut in Commodore’s own ultra-modern production facility providing more than ample storage throughout the clinical areas and offices.

As a result, the surgeries look orderly and spacious. And despite no internal windows, the generous sized rooms and use of Scandi coloured cabinetry and white walls still feels open and roomy.

A bonus was the fact that the build was completed on time and on budget, as is normally expected with Commodore Dental & Medical Fitouts’ projects.
