MEET THE MEMBERS
Dori Davis
Doris Davis was born and raised in Denton and attended Denton High School. She worked for Denton ISD for 16 years. She is a mother to five children and has fifteen grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Doris has been attending the American Legion Hall Senior Center since 2018. Since opening the new building, Doris has loved participating in activities like sewing, bingo, and dominoes. Doris enjoys spending so much time at the American Legion Hall that she is now an avid volunteer at the center.
Doris says she “loves the people, helping and getting involved.”
Bobby and Zullema
Bobby and Zullema moved to Texas from California to be with their daughter in the area and have been happily together for over 40 years. They have two wonderful grandchildren. Bobby and Zullema started coming the Denton Senior Center a couple of years ago and add to some of the most faithful participants. The staff know we can count on greeting them with a big smile almost every day. Zullema’s sense of humor always has us laughing. They are always doing things together, whether it is taking an exercise class or creating a sculpture in ceramics. Their favorite thing to do with the center is go on all the fun and unique trips around the metroplex. Bobby said going on trips takes his mind off things and he really gets to be present in the moment. He enjoys getting to meet new people and learn about their life when on the bus rides. Bobby had a heart attack many years ago and he feels so much stronger since coming to the center. He truly believes it is because of his participation here, talking with others, and trying new things. Zullema has a zeal for life and feels at home when she is at the center. She mentioned that everyone is so welcoming and nice and easy to talk to. Her most cherished times at the center is talking with her friends, and meeting unfamiliar people.
Bobby and Zullema would encourage anyone to join the center because “there is something for everyone, and we do not just sit around all day!” 14 | Unite, Grow, Play
