Mountain Bike Trail

In November 2021, the City of Denton, Parks and Recreation, and the local biking community celebrated the official grand opening of the Hartlee Field Mountain Bike Trail in northeast Denton. The 5.3-mile-long single-track trail was built by a core group of volunteers along with assistance from staff. While the trail does not have significant topography, it is a course designed for speed with approximately 80 feet in elevation change throughout the course. The course was designed by Dr. Joseph Walker from the University of North Texas who provided significant support to Parks and Recreation during the layout and construction process.

Meet Clay Thurmond, Clear Creek volunteer Project manager

Clay Thurmond has been an active member of the Elm Fork Chapter of the Texas Master Naturalist program since 2017. Since completing his initial certification, Clay has been an integral volunteer at Clear Creek Natural Heritage Center. Clay serves as the Project Manager of Clear Creek, which also functions as a liaison role between Master Naturalists and Denton Parks and Recreation staff. Clay leads Master Naturalist projects and workdays and collaborates with staff to carry out educational volunteer opportunities. Overall improvements of the walking trails, greenhouse, and gardens in the City would be impossible without Clay’s leadership.
