Carl Young, Sr. Park

Originally opened in 2019, staff is currently working on plans to expand the existing sprayground, trail improvements, and fencing at Carl Young Park. Funding of $200,000 was approved in the 2014 bond program along with additional park development fee funds that were appropriated to help complete the project. Public meetings have already started, and construction is anticipated to begin this fall after the swim season concludes. Other improvements to the park over the last few years have consisted of a new playground, parking lot, restrooms, and trail lighting.

Joe Skiles Park

Enhancements to Joe Skiles Park is in the beginning stages of planning for improvements that would consist of a loop trail around the perimeter of the property, irrigation, installation of trees and turf, court fencing replacement, and benches. It is anticipated that this project would kick-off this spring and conclude in 2024.

Eagle Creek Park

In cooperation with Forestar Development, a new park and trail is being built north of Roselawn Drive. The 42-acre park was dedicated to the Parks and Recreation Department in 2022 and a .7-mile trail will be built later this year.

Denia Park

Outreach to the community has already started for improvements to Denia Park. Anticipated Park enhancements consist of the completion of a loop trail around the park, trail connection to the Eagle Creek neighborhood, irrigation, trees, field improvements, lighting on the soccer field, and ADA accessibility requirements. Funding for this project is supported from ARPA, Denton Parks Foundation, Brewer Foundation and park dedication fees. The project will begin this summer.

Quakertown Park Playground

Funding from the Denton Benefit League and the Denton Parks Foundation is helping to purchase musical play features that are being added to the existing playground in the park. These amenities help celebrate Denton’s musical heritage.

North Lakes Dog Park

The last shade pavilion was installed this winter thanks to funding provided from the Denton Parks Foundation. The Foundation, along with donors have provided the support for the construction of all the shade structures at the dog park. The last remaining step will be to add decorative stone on the pavilion poles to protect them and provide improved aesthetics. Additionally, trees were planted over the winter thanks to a $20,000 grant and volunteer power provided by Wells Fargo.

Denton Tennis Center

Construction continues with completion projected in the spring. The new tennis center has 12 tennis courts, 8 pickleball courts and a pro shop.
