Welcome

We’ve got plenty to keep the whole family entertained this season, indoors and outside. For a festive experience you won’t forget, get your skates on at our outdoor real Ice Rink. Or, for some family fun that doesn’t require you to get your winter woolies on, head to the Assembly Rooms for comedy capers and lots of laughs at this year’s panto, Dick Whittington. If it’s something big, friendly and giant you’re looking for, The BFG at Derby Theatre will fit the bill perfectly! In the new year, we’re excited to be welcoming back two kids’ TV favourites. Bob The Builder brings music, dance and, of course, plenty of fixing; whilst Peppa Pig and her brother George go on a treasure hunt.

Science Museum Live on Tour will unleash children’s inner Einstein, but they’ll be too busy exclaiming ‘wow – cool!’ at the dangerous demonstrations to realise it’s educational. Who says learning can’t be fun? I hope you and your family enjoy the season!

by Roald Dahl adapted by David Wood Late one night, Sophie is snatched from her bed by the BFG, who takes her back to his cave in Giant Country. The BFG – Big Friendly Giant – is a dream-blowing giant who blows lovely dreams into the bedrooms of sleeping children. The two soon become the best of friends, feasting on disgusterous snozzcumbers and making whizzpoppers together. But catasterous disastrophe strikes. The other giants are not nearly so nice. Their favourite pastime is feasting each night on human beans, and they have set their sights on their next meal – the chillders of England. Sophie and the BFG quickly make plans to save them, enlisting help in their battle against the other giants. Derby LIVE’s brand new production of this classic Roald Dahl tale promises to delight and enthral audiences this Christmas – from little chillders to Big Friendly Grandpas!

With a twinkle in his eyes, West End star PAUL NICHOLAS will be pacing into pantoland as the evil King Rat, proving he’s no longer Just Good Friends as he plans, plots and ploys to destroy Dick’s dreams. Flying in to star alongside him is Birds of a Feather’s LINDA ROBSON as Fairy Bow Bells. Joining in the tomfoolery and teasing with his comic capers will be MIKE ‘SQUEAKY’ McCLEAN as Idle Jack and returning for a second year will be Hi-5’s LUKE ROBERTS as Dick and Derby-favourite, IAN GOOD as Sarah the Cook. All the ingredients are in place for a fabulous serving of festive cheer in this traditional pantomime adventure where anything can happen... oh yes it can!
