Markeaton Park welcomes all the family to come along for the first two weekends in December to enjoy Christmas festivities in the Craft Village. Buy Christmas gifts from the craft fair, join in the Jingle Jog, meet festive characters, listen to carols, traditional music, brass bands, see the decorated model boats, join in wreath making, free family arts and crafts, join our family walks, enjoy festive food from The Orangery cafĂŠ and much more....

Every weekend is themed to add to your Christmas Festivity experience.

Craft Fair Weekend

Family Workshop Weekend

Are you looking for that extra special Christmas gift, that’s unique and locally made? Come along and browse at the Friends of Markeaton Park craft weekend. Over this weekend Jingle Jog, Rock Choir, and a brass band.

Struggling to find time before the big day to meet up with friends and family? Come along and enjoy lots of family activities to make special memories, including card making, Jumping Clay, wreath making and much more...

Elf Trail Markeaton welcomes festive visitors to the park. Elves have taken up residency in hidden locations around the park for you to find them. Get your free Elf trail, available in the Craft Village. Share your family pictures of your Elf adventure on Derby Parks Facebook page. Mundy Play Area Let off some Christmas excitement on the climbing frames, swings, slides and the pirate ship. Other attractions are available at a small charge including bouncy castle, electric cars and crazy golf (Subject to weather). Family Walk Markeaton Park has many footpaths around the park that allow access for everyone to enjoy a winter walk. A great opportunity to meet with family to enjoy time together and exchange gifts. Have a look at page 7 for a route map. Christmas tree Why not take a picture of your children with a festive and unique backdrop to send to your family on your christmas cards?

SEARCH FOR DECORATED STONES in Markeaton PaRk Take a walk around the Craft Village and Elf Trail, and look for or hide your own colourfully decorated stones and rocks. Please remember to go hunting with an adult!

ANDREW FROST, WOOD SCULPTOR A renowned Wood Sculptor, combining outdoor work with creativity in the form of wood sculptures, mostly carved with the sole use of a chainsaw. Come along to view Andrew’s work.

GAMES & ACTIVITIES Wrap up warm and enjoy lots of free activity sheets for Markeaton Park, and free games including giant Jenga and Connect 4. Reindeer Trail Pick up a free activity sheet to help you spot Father Christmas’s nine reindeer playing hide and seek within the walls of the Craft Village.

Come along and browse the many stalls. Rainbow Ribbon Tree Sat 1 & Sun 2 Dec, 11am - 3pm Join us in celebrating National Tree Week 2018 and place a ribbon on our tree. Personalise the ribbon by including your own heartfelt message to loved ones at Christmas, who won’t be with you to celebrate. #nationaltreeweek ROCk CHOIR Sun 2 Dec, 12 noon Rock Choir is the pioneering contemporary choir of the UK and remains unique with over 20,000 members. We welcome the Derby Rock Choir to our Family Festivities event. Derby Hospital Jingle Jog Sun 2 Dec A 5km run around Markeaton Park, dressed as Father Christmas! The fun run is for everyone, adults, children and dogs alike. You don’t have to run, you can walk, jog or run, it’s up to you! There is also a children’s 1.5km fun run. Registration fee is £12. FAMILY WORKSHOP weekend Markie and Parkie Sat 8 & Sun 9 Dec, throughout the day. Come and spot the two cheeky elves of Markeaton Park, Markie and Parkie! They like throwing snowballs at each other, as well as at unsuspecting visitors! You might find them playing around the Craft Village, or causing chaos on the Elf Trail! Duncan Pass Printing Sat 8 & Sun 9 Dec, 11am - 3pm Duncan Pass is an award winning print maker based in Derbyshire. Share his knowledge and skills in his free print drop-in workshops. You will also have the opportunity to buy some of his prints and cards too! JUNIOR PARKRUN Sun 9 Dec, 9am - 10am FREE event, just turn up and run! Meet at the Orangery steps. Come dressed up in festive fancy dress and join in the fun!

Family Nordic Walking taster sessions Sat 8 & Sun 9 Dec, 12 noon, 1pm & 2pm Ever fancied having a go at Nordic Walking, but don’t want to commit to a class until you have tried? Have a go at Nordic Walking around Markeaton Park. Meet at the Craft Village. All ages and abilities. FREE. We advise to book in advance as spaces are limited. Free Balloon Modelling Sat 8 & Sun 9 Dec, 11am - 3pm FREE balloon modelling Markeaton Park Textile Map Workshop Sat 8 & Sun 9 Dec, 11am - 3pm Derby Adult Learning Services will be running craft workshops to make a textile map, recording your favourite places, memories and activities you have enjoyed in the park over the years. FREE Christmas Card Workshop Sat 8 & Sun 9 Dec, 11am - 3pm Join in free Christmas card making with Derby Adult Learning Services. Explore and learn different card making techniques including decoupage, die cutting, stamping and layering. Inspiration to create the cards will be from Markeaton Park bygone days, with stunning images of the past to share with friends. Markeaton Park Past and Present Sat 8 & Sun 9 Dec, 11am - 3pm Join acclaimed writer, poet and lyricist Jamie Thrasivoulou who will guide you through sharing your memories of Markeaton Park. Every weekend our Craft Village units have something for you to enjoy, whether you want JUMPING CLAY Drop in sessions (ages 2 - 99+years) Join Jumping Clay in mini make workshops, creative fun with colourful, mess free air clay! Make a snowman or Santa tree bauble or fridge magnet. Activities from £2, just turn up! If you want to be more creative and stay longer, book a workshop session. Bookable sessions: Sat 1 Dec , 10.30am to 12 noon. Cute Father Christmas and Rudolf Scene (ages 8 - 99+ years) £12 per person. Sun 2 Dec , 10.30am to 12 noon. Beautiful Tree Decorations (ages 5 - 99+ years) £10 per person. Sat 8 & Sun 9 Dec 1 hour sessions - 11am, 12.30pm or 2pm Families and groups sessions – work as a team to create your own Christmas Scene, with a choice of penguins or polar bears, with or without an electric tea light. £20 per family (up to 4 people) All ages and abilities.
