Welcome to Derby Festé 2012
Derby Festé 2012 kicks off on Thursday 20 September with the premiere of QUAD’s Derby Soap Opera - one of the world’s largest mass participation film projects. This will be followed by another first for Derby as Luc Amoros lights up Cathedral Green with a choreographed show set against an illuminated backdrop. The performance ends with a striking piece of art and eye-catching, explosive entertainment to kick-start an extended weekend of family fun. Friday’s entertainment starts with Luc Amoros’s final performance of Page Blanche and ends with the Festé Jive Party on the Market Place. Professional dancers will mix in amongst the crowds - so you can really let yourself go, or just enjoy from the side lines. Saturday’s family fun sees the streets come alive with a fantastic selection of entertainers, including life sized Punch and Judy, Giant Seagulls, an interactive robot and a comedy show featuring one man and his six foot high balloon. On Saturday evening Darley Park hosts the fourth and final performance of Games Time - a free, dazzling outdoor dance spectacular set to a backdrop of large scale video projections, music and fireworks.

Derby Soap Opera: ROSAS, The Attic Assembly Rooms 19:00 (Doors open at 18:00, speeches at 18:30) Map Ref ROSAS: The Attic is the result of QUAD’s mass participation film project Derby Soap Opera involving over 15,000 Derby people directed by the international artist and Director of Photography Marinella Senatore. The people of Derby were invited to become the actors, singers and dancers, stage directors, costume designers, make-up artists and lighting technicians for Derby Soap Opera, created in QUAD between February and July 2012. The 40 minute film will tour as part of an international trilogy, screening in Berlin and Madrid after its premiere at Festé. The screening will take place in Derby Assembly Rooms, tickets are free (subject to availability), and available from QUAD Box Office.

Allow yourself to be caught up in this spellbinding event, as six daring painters, actors and musicians take to a huge scaffold canvas - using 300 kilos of paint and 360 square metres of plastic film to create, destroy and recreate a series of extraordinary works of art right before your eyes. Come and enjoy this spectacular large-scale event created by people from Derby working with leading UK artists. Over 100 local people of all ages and backgrounds have dedicated their spare time to bring you a breath-taking show of brilliant costume, dance, film, music and fireworks in Darley Park. Games Time is a performance that depicts four opposing teams taking part in an extraordinary, imaginary game of chance, played out on a huge games board by kings, queens and mythical beasts, supported by their loyal foot soldiers. With a backdrop of giant video projections and music, watch the teams submit to fate at each roll of the dice. Who will be victorious in the Games Time finale? Games Time is funded by Legacy Trust UK, and is produced by DĂŠda Producing. Games Time is an outdoor performance, please wear suitable footwear.
