A free outdoor family adventure. The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Beacon Trail invites families to find 7 characters in business windows that have come to life from Buckingham Palace. May – Jun The Big Jubilee Read is a reading for pleasure campaign offering a booklist with brilliant, beautiful and thrilling writing by authors from a wide range of Commonwealth countries. The books have been chosen by an expert panel of librarians, booksellers and literature specialists and there are seventy titles to choose from, ten books for each decade of the Queen’s reign. Reading Groups in Derby Libraries will be reading and reviewing a selection of these titles during May/June and then voting for their favourite books, with the winner revealed at the end of June. Along with over 1,500 other locations across the UK, Derby will light a beacon on Cathedral Green, in tribute to Her Majesty the Queen. A lone piper will play Diu Regnare at 9:35pm, followed by a specially written bugle call at 9:40pm, before the beacon is lit at 9:45pm accompanied by a choir singing Song for the Commonwealth. We hope you will join us for a rousing ceremony and then be mesmerized by our atmospheric fire trail, created by Walk the Plank, up until 11pm.

JUBILEE ROYAL ENGINEERS PARADE
WITH 170 INFRASTRUCTURE SUPPORT ENGINEER GROUP Cathedral Green to Council House Sat 4 Jun, 1pm – 2pm

The ceremonies will be broadcast live onto screens in the Market Place. Troops from 170 Infrastructure Support Engineer Group will parade from Cathedral Green to outside the Council House to the sounds of a marching band. As they arrive they will give a Royal Salute to Her Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of Derbyshire, their Commander Colonel Gavin Hatcher OBE, Commanding officers, The Mayor and High Sheriff, followed by the National Anthem.
A special commemorative Platinum Jubilee medal will be presented to some of the Royal Engineers, followed by an inspection and a speech by the Lord-Lieutenant.

To coincide with the Platinum Jubilee, The Big Jubilee Lunch will be taking place on Sunday 5 June across the nation, and will bring the communities of Derby together to get to know each other a little better. Hosted by BBC’s Radio Derby’s Andy Twigge and taking place in the heart of Derby’s Cathedral Quarter, the Market Place will see hundreds of you come together to share friendship, food and fun. It’s the party that’s right up your street and if you don’t have a celebration in yours, then come and join ours! Everyone is invited, don’t forget your Jubilee picnic!
You can expect an diverse and entertaining stage show with acts including Sinfonia Viva with show tunes from the last 70 years, music from Surtal Arts with Dhol Frequency and Sandeep Raval Global Rhythm and Ukrainian folk dancing with Hoverla, plus more local cultural organisations. This will be followed by a screening of the BBC coverage of the weekend highlights from London, all projected on a big screen for everyone to see.
