Summer’s coming, and not a minute too soon. We’re excited to take a massive programme of festivals, events and theatre out into the open spaces of Derby so we can all enjoy the nice weather.
This season also sees Derby Arena host a fantastic collection of comedy and music events. Don’t miss Fastlove a tribute to George Michael, The Magic of Motown plus stand-up from Russell Brand and Sarah Millican.
Markeaton Park will host the Outdoor Theatre and Cinema Season again this year with more events than ever before, including Oddsocks’ humorous twists on traditional Shakespeare plays The Tempest and Romeo & Juliet; Babbling Vagabonds return with their highly successful A Wild Walk which is great for younger kids; and this year we are joined by Squashbox Theatre who make natural history fun with puppets and songs.
The Market Place will come alive this summer as we see the return of the St George’s Day Celebrations and the Derby Beach complete with sand, deck chairs and refreshment stands.
The inflatable screen will return to Markeaton Park Craft Village for screenings of Dirty Dancing and The Rocky Horror Picture Show, so get out your fishnets and decide who’s carrying the watermelon as you bring your picnics and chairs to watch these classic films.
We’re pleased to team up with Derby Book Festival and host four great talks from inspiring authors at the Guildhall Theatre covering subjects from around-the-world cycling to ecofeminism. Last but not least, Love Parks weekend will see the return of Superhero Picnic in the Park, so get out your favourite hero or villain costume and join us for loads of family fun.
