HELLO
© Robert Day
The Christmas season has come around quickly and we’re really excited about our panto Jack and the Beanstalk starring Duncan James at Derby Arena. Producers Little Wolf are back for a second year, and after the success of last year’s Beauty and the Beast at the National Pantomime Awards, we can’t wait to see what spectacular treats they have in store for us this time around. What would you do if a dinosaur invited itself for Christmas at your house? Babbling Vagabonds will be bringing their family-friendly show The Dinosaur Who Came For Christmas to the Guildhall Theatre. Expect puppets, songs and lots of silliness in this festive adventure for younger children. It wouldn’t be Christmas without a spin on the ice. The Cathedral Quarter 3aaa Christmas Ice Rink will return to the Market Place this Christmas. And be sure to check out the Family Festivities at Markeaton Park, choose the craft fair weekend or family workshop weekend, or join us for both!
Derby Folk Festival has become a firm tradition in the Cathedral Quarter and this, its 12th year, won’t disappoint. Look out for headliners Eliza Carthy and the Wayward Band, Sam Kelly and the Lost Boys and Derby’s own Lucy Ward Band. What better than a bit of gothic horror in the run up to Halloween? The Lost Boys will bring The Creation of Frankenstein to the Guildhall Theatre. This Derby LIVE co-production transitions seamlessly between selected scenes from the novel Frankenstein and scenes from the story of the novel’s creation; with the five actors switching between characters from the two worlds in front of your eyes. Last, but not least, the concert of the year is back again. The slopes of Darley Park will play host to thousands of visitors as the residents of Derby come together for a night of classical music and fireworks at The Hannells Darley Park Concert. Join us for the celebrations, and don’t forget your picnic!
