HELLO At Derby Museums we think anyone can be creative. This summer we are presenting the aptly titled Everyone programme. We're inviting people to submit a piece of artwork and we pledge to display it in the Museum and Art Gallery. We are hoping for a riot of creativity, colour and ideas which show how we feel about about our place in the world. In August there will be chance to take part in the FIGMENT Derby, a celebration of community art which is being held in the UK for the first time. In the Autumn we'll be hosting the brilliant exhibition The Story of Children's Television. It will feature, puppets, props and presenters from the 1940s to the present. Expect to reacquaint yourself with favourites such as Morph, Muffin the Mule and Rastamous. Finally Derby Museums is delighted to announce the surprise acquisition of two paintings by Joseph Wright of Derby. The paintings are two of the last he executed and feature scenes of Richard Arkwright's Mill and Willersley Castle. As Derbyshire landscapes they fill a gap in our collection. They are also now in the public domain for the first time, having previously rested in the vault of a US health insurance as an investment. We are so pleased to be bringing them home.

EXHIBITION The Story of Children’s Television from 1946 to Today 15 October - 29 January Museum & Art Gallery ADMISSION: Donate What You Think
Donate What You Think is our brand new way to ensure we can bring the best exhibitions to Derby Museums, and they stay accessible for everyone. Come and enjoy this exhibition and then donate what you think.
From the earliest days of Muffin the Mule, generations of children have fallen in love with the characters and stories brought to life on the small screen. The exhibition traces the fascinating history of children’s television, bringing together seven decades of iconic objects, memorabilia, merchandise, clips and images. Packed full of interactives for big kids and small, the exhibition also showcases original props and characters, from Mummy Woodentop to The Wombles, Morph, Gordon the Gopher, Rastamouse and the singing veggies from Mr Bloom’s Nursery. The Story of Children’s Television is the story of all of our childhoods, and how television helped to shape the way we view the world around us. Join us for a wander down memory lane, to a celebration of children’s television, past and present.
The exhibition has been created by the Herbert Art Gallery & Museum, Coventry in partnership with the Department of Film and Television Studies, University of Warwick. It is supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund, BBC, Ragdoll Productions, ITV, Kaleidoscope and the Children’s Media Foundation.

MEET THE MAKERS Meet the Maker
Meet the STEAM Powered Makers
There are always Makers to meet in the Mill that you can come and talk to - these sessions are a chance to discover more about the variety of makers and the different ways that people have been inspired!
Our STEAM (Science, Engineering, Arts and Maths) Powered Makers will be filling The Silk Mill with fun, engaging making experiences from July-August. Drop in to have a go at the latest make as we test, prototype and create the brand new family programme for Derby Silk Mill Museum of Making.
