HeLLO This autumn, Derby Museums continues to reflect upon, create and make art as we host the finest artists from near and far. Kerri Pratt, an emerging Derbyshire artist, is the winner of the biennial Jonathan Vickers Fine Art Award. Her exhibition Of a Place is inspired by the remnants and traces of industrial landscapes of the county. The following show will be Henri Matisse: Drawing with Scissors, which features 35 lithographic reproductions of the famous cut-outs, produced in the last four years of his life, when the artist was confined to his bed. October sees the return of our biggest event of the year to The Silk Mill, the Derby Mini Maker Faire - ‘the greatest show and tell in the Midlands.’ This will be our most ambitious yet, with a new outdoor Maker Showcase area and more workshops, demonstrations and hands-on making experiences than ever before. On 5 December, you’ll be able to indulge in all manner of festive Georgian frivolity at Pickfords House in An Enchanted Christmas. With a roaring fire in the 18th century kitchen, staff in Georgian costume and exquisite floral Christmas decorations, Pickford’s House promises to deliver the sights and smells of a traditional Georgian Christmas in this celebration of Christmas past. We’re keen to involve our visitors in all aspects of the museums work. We want your help in suggesting new ways to display our Derby Porcelain and ceramics collection. Drop by the Museum & Art Gallery to share your response in our ‘Project Lab’ phase and then enjoy watching the cases as they’re transformed. Throughout the autumn there will be plenty of family events to paint, draw, make and get involved with the life of our museums. From The Big Draw to Museums At Night and Matisse inspired activities to creating a ‘Fun Palace’ at The Silk Mill. All of this belongs to you, we hope you will continue to make Derby Museums your own.
Executive Director, Derby Museums Trust

His vibrant works are celebrated for their extraordinary richness and luminosity of colour. Matisse: Drawing with Scissors, features 35 lithographic reproductions of the famous cut-outs, produced in the last four years of his life, when the artist was confined to his bed, and includes many of his iconic images, such as The Snail and the blue nude series.

The lithographic reproductions in this exhibition are taken from a special double issue of Verve, a review of art and literature, published by Tériade, a major publisher of fine art books in 1958. This exhibition gives a brilliant overview of Matisse’s late work. This exhibition is presented in conjunction with Hayward Touring, The Southbank Centre. FREE Suitable for all
