Study modules
This unique course has been developed with employers, and you can study either full time or part time. It has been accredited for Engineering Technician level by the Joint Board of Moderators for The Engineering Council. It’s also an excellent route to the final stage of our BSc (Hons) Civil Engineering course. About the course This is a vocational course designed to give you the skills and knowledge you will need to enjoy a career in civil engineering. If you prefer a more practical approach to study, this is the ideal way to become a technical engineer. It has the backing of key organisations in the civil engineering industry and is accredited by the Chartered Institution of Civil Engineering Surveyors (CICES) and the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE). Teaching and learning There will be a mixture of face-to-face lectures, practical work and Work Based Learning. Work Based Learning gives you credit for activities undertaken by yourself in the workplace. You will be assessed by a mixture of assignments, group work, presentations, logbook, examinations and portfolio work.

Options Stage Two You will choose from: Project Management (WBL) Applied Mathematics 2**. You will also choose from: Maintenance and Refurbishment or Surveying 2. **If you wish to progress on to stage three of the BSc (Hons) Civil Engineering Course, you will need to pass the Applied Mathematics 2 module and complete the additional bridging module below: Structural Design and Assessment 2.
Additional information You will be based at Markeaton Street, where you will use the latest software. We also regularly have experts from industry as guest lecturers, and we’ve got links with renowned companies so you will have opportunities to work on live projects. You will also go on fieldtrips throughout your studies. After completing this course and the bridging module, you can progress onto the final stage of our BSc (Hons) Civil Engineering course. Your career This course is ideal if you wish to start a career within civil engineering or if you are already in the industry but want to develop your skills. It will provide you with the ability to develop a wide range of skills that will prepare you for a variety of career opportunities within the civil engineering sector.
