Why choose this course? This is a studio practice based course that incorporates undergraduate and postgraduate study so you’ll graduate with a masters degree. If you have a passion for illustration, this course will prepare you for your career in this field.

About the course This four year course integrates undergraduate and postgraduate study, enabling you to be committed from the early stages as a deep thinker, risk taker and innovative practitioner in illustration.

You could also gain employment in the broader field of the creative industries including graphic design, computer games, animation or advertising. Some of our graduates have also moved on to teaching or continue on to further or higher postgraduate study.

As a graduate you could work as a freelance illustrator in areas such as children's and adult publishing, magazines, graphic novels, comics, printmaking, information and education design, as well as web design, newspapers and packaging.

Teaching is delivered mainly through studio based and experiential learning using project briefs. This is mixed with tutorials, lectures, seminars, visiting speakers and visits to galleries and exhibitions.

What you’ll cover

STAGE FOUR

Entry requirements: Academic – 260 UCAS tariff points, of which at least 220 must be from your International Baccalaureate or equivalent qualification.

Visual narrative is at the heart of most illustration, which is often used to help interpret or explain complex or difficult issues and ideas. Throughout the course you will meet innovative speakers from the illustration industry.

We actively encourage students to participate in national and international illustration competitions and throughout the course you’ll take part in a number of live briefs to develop your skills and knowledge for your future career. We are also members of the Association of Illustrators (AOI) and Design and Art Direction (D&AD).

Stage two You’ll choose one module from: ▪ Design Strategies ▪ Sequential Illustration ▪ Digital Moving Image.

You’ll also have the opportunity to exhibit your final year work as part of our degree show. This creative festival is a high profile event in the city’s arts calendar, and allows you to make vital industry contacts.
