Duration and mode of study: You can study this course full time for three years.

About the course This course will give you the theoretical and practical experience to prepare you for registration as an adult nurse. It will enable you to work with a range of client groups enabling you to gain the skills to help improve the quality of people’s lives.

Teaching and learning You will spend half of your time on practice placements in the community, in hospitals and in the private, voluntary and independent sectors. The rest of your time will be spent in university, benefiting from lectures, workshops and seminars from our experienced team of tutors. You will engage in a range of teacher and student directed learning, with the support of resources in our Clinical Skills Suite, online and from your practice placements. We also expect you to develop as an independent learner as you progress through the course.

You will be assessed through a variety of approaches, including assignments, poster presentations and practice based practical assessments.

This course is accredited by The Nursing and Midwifery Council, so you will be eligible to register and practice as a nurse in the UK. In the 2013 National Student Survey, 98% of our students were satisfied overall with this course. We have strong established links with our local practice colleagues.

What you will cover You will experience various clinical learning environments on your placements including hospitals, community settings and voluntary organisations, and you will also experience 24 hour nursing. We will help you to reach your full potential and you will be supported in practice by practice mentors who work closely with us to ensure you get the most out of your clinical experience.

Additional information As a healthcare professional, you will work alongside practitioners from other disciplines. So to prepare you for your career, you will study alongside a range of health and social care practitioners and students, including occupational therapists and radiographers. In practice you will work with the wider multidisciplinary team. Our courses are mapped against sector standards to ensure you receive training that is up to date and relevant.

Your career When you complete this course, you can gain employment as a qualified adult nurse. We will prepare you for employment and maximise your opportunity of becoming a registered nurse.

Our students have a good record of employability locally, nationally and internationally, and in 2012 100% of our students were working within six months of graduating. Some also had opportunities to continue studying at postgraduate level in a range of health and social care courses.
