Why choose this course? This course will give you a good insight into the world of property development. You will be taught by professionals in this field and you will learn the latest theoretical knowledge and practical skills. You will be studying alongside other built environment students, so you will pick up a wide range of knowledge that will develop you as an all round professional. About the course A joint honours degree is a perfect choice for you if you want a flexible degree that will allow you to study more than one subject. Most students combine this course with either Architectural Design or Business Management. Today’s property market is huge, and the need for people to manage increasingly high value and diverse property portfolios continues to grow. Property development covers everything from renovating a small house to multi-million pound development schemes and we’ve developed this course to reflect this. Teaching and learning You will be taught by staff with a wide range of professional experience in property development, including surveyors, architects, structural and civil engineers, economists, planners and lawyers. So you can be sure you will be learning the most up to date practice from people who really know what they are talking about.

Additional information You will be based at Markeaton Street, where you will use the latest software including ArchiCAD, Adobe Photoshop, Microsoft Project and Cato CAD Measure. We regularly have experts from industry as guest lecturers, and we’ve got links with renowned companies so you will be able to work on live projects that will give you valuable real-world experience. Between the second and third stage you will have the option of developing your skills and knowledge in industry by completing a work placement. You will gain an additional qualification, the Diploma in Professional Practice.

Your career Property Development graduates work in a variety of roles in large or small companies, or for themselves. Depending on the other subjects you take you may follow a variety of career paths. For example, if you study Property Development with Business Management you could go into a career within the domestic property sector, supporting an existing business or starting your own business. If you study this subject with Marketing, you could consider joining larger property development companies in a marketing or business support role. Or if you combine it with Architectural Design you could start your own business, or work in the practical side of property planning and designing.
