Teaching and learning You will develop and realise your potential through a varied programme of studio-based projects, lectures, debates, competitions, live project work, group critiques, field visits, tutorials, technical demonstrations, written assignments, seminars and practical workshops.

About the course This is a specialist course, which emphasises highly creative textile design for fashion, interiors and personal expression and celebrates the use of both traditional and sophisticated new technology. You will develop textile design skills and gain an in-depth understanding of a constantly changing industry.

Options You will have the option to undertake a one year industrial placement which on completion, will give you the additional qualification of the Diploma in Professional Practice. You will study:  Contemporary Issues In Professional Practice  Applied Professional Practice There is also the opportunity to study at postgraduate level at the University of Derby, on our MA Fashion and Textiles course. Additional information A European and cultural fieldtrip is undertaken in the final year of study. You will also have the opportunity to take part in national and international competitions. Our students’ recent successes and awards include:  Selvedge Prize for Excellence in Knitwear  New Designers First Prize Award (2 awards)  Bradford Textile Society, 13 prizes including The British Textile Designers Guild Award

 Exhibitor at Texprint  Selection for Ratti Foundation (Milan)  Shortlisted for sponsorship by Hermes On completion of the course, you will showcase your work at our final year degree show and at New Designers in London, giving you the opportunity make vital industry contacts. Your career Textiles is a global industry and offers you many opportunities to travel as part of your career. This course will prepare you for an exciting career in printed, knitted or woven textiles. You could work as a designer and also in a variety of roles such as buyer, merchandiser, stylist or illustrator in a wide range of organisations associated with the international textile industry. During the course you will be encouraged to develop your own industry networks to help you get started after graduation. You will have the option of taking a placement between the second and third year to gain work experience and develop your CV.
