INTRODUCTION Fit. When talking about sports equipment and apparel, fit is the factor that determines initial impression, purchase, and consumer satisfaction over time. Fit is also the most influential factor in determining a products performance, day in and day out. When Salomon began developing winter sports helmets a decade ago, the focus was to tap into our vast reserves of fit expertise learned through years of technical footwear development, to create market leading fit solutions. With oval and round shell shapes, Custom Air and Auto Custom Air, Salomon helmets have developed a reputation for being among the best fitting helmets on the market.
FW14 HELMET TRAINING MANUAL | INTRODUCTION
Salomon is also known for technical innovation in all products, and helmets are no exception. Using lightweight materials and innovative molding processes, patented impact absorption designs and unique ventilation solutions, and through exhaustive testing with Salomon’s stable of world-class athletes, Salomon helmets continue to elevate the bar for comfort, light weight and technical performance in every segment of the market.

EPP Multi-impact (dual impact) core material.
EPP
ADVANTAGES: More than one impact. DISADVANTAGES: Heavy. Only 2 impacts, not a true “multi-impact”. WHO IS USING IT?
VINYL-NITRILE Specific pad shape that absorbs more shock than other systems on the market, and is true multi-impact. ADVANTAGES: Real multi impact. Comfortable and flexible. DISADVANTAGES: Still does not absorb as much shock as the single impact concept EPS 4D. WHO IS USING IT?

MIPS Low-friction material between the outer shell and the liner, absorbs much of the energy created by an oblique impact. ADVANTAGES: Could work eventually on rough ground like a road. DISADVANTAGES: • Snow is a slippery and soft surface that decreases or cancels the MIPS effect. • EPS 4D is still today the most absorbing technology.
