Funny - don’t make me laugh
drama Oor Rabbie
Foolish Notion and Adam Holmes
A celebration of Burns with a difference. The first half is a celebration of the man and his work by master storyteller, performer and entertainer Andy Cannon and accomplished cellist Wendy Weatherby. The second is an opportunity to hear Burns wonderful songs performed by Young Trad finalist singer Adam Holmes. This is “Burns fur bairns, Burns fur big bairns, Burns fur a’body!” a Burns celebration without traditional speeches or ceremony...just the man and his words brought to life in an easy, relaxed atmosphere. Foolish Notion’s performance is an astonishing show that runs from “To a Mouse” to a masterly re-telling of the spooky, scary “Tam O Shanter”. The show will pause only to fit in a break for haggis, neeps and tatties...the fastest Burns supper ever. Then relax and enjoy the beautiful songs of the Bard performed by Adam Holmes.
Reeling & Writhing Theatre Company
You shouldn't laugh. You don't want to laugh. But you do laugh. Your jaws ache and your eyes water. This is comedy. Why do we laugh? What is it in us that boils up and takes over. It feels so good but why does it happen? When it shouldn't happen – auntie’s funeral, colleagues wedding, first meal with the in-laws – why is it impossible to control? Laughter can hurt. Humour is power. 'Funny' is a terrifying and shocking story based on real reports from secret places, and the closer it gets to the truth the less you're going to believe it. You shouldn't be here. You don't want to be here. But you are here. Your body aches and your eyes water. This is interrogation. A soldier, a terrorist and a comedian walk into a bar. The landlord says:‘What’s this, a joke?’ Age: 16+, Saturday 13 February, 7.30pm, Tickets: £12, £9 concession

Maggie Brodie has been drafted back for a day’s cover at her local primary school. Retired twice, once with a dishonourable discharge, it’s going to be a tough shift. A day of battles with her never ending thirst for booze; with the soft soap headmaster and lastly with Rosie. Rosie is six, a new intake, and refusing to speak. Maggie’s anger overloads as she hears that the child’s family and friends believe her to be possessed. Maggie is forced to take drastic action. Douglas Maxwell’s disturbing, tense new thriller combines integrated projection and a specially composed soundtrack to make Promises Promises an unmissable theatrical event.

Schools Shakespeare Festival
If I Was A Mouse I Would Hide In Your Hood
One evening, one stage, three classics. In this year’s Schools Shakespeare Festival A Midsummer Night’s Dream will be presented by St. Kentigern’s Academy, Macbeth by Bathgate Academy and The Merchant of Venice by The James Young High School. All three schools have been working with theatre director Jo Timmins to prepare their performances of Shakespeare.
Snuggle in, cozy up; this is an enchanting tale of imagination, friendship and discovery. Mouse wants to play games, ask questions, fly to the moon and go to the party. But she’s shy. Mouse likes hide and seek best of all (mostly hiding) but there’s no-one to come and find her... until a new family move in. With music by international children’s composer Paul Rissmann and a beautiful book illustrated by Helen Nunn, the acrobatic tail of an ordinary mouse dangles deliciously before us... music
Bribes, mis-directed contracts, mis-allocation of public money, fiddled expenses. Panic. Sound familiar? Gerry Mulgrew directs this feisty adaptation of Nikolai Gogol’s classic satire on bureaucracy and vanity. A penniless nobody from the big city arrives in a small town, where its corrupt and self-serving officials mistake him for the all-powerful government inspector. In this age of abuse of office, banking crises and duck islands, this hilarious and vicious play is as timely as ever. A swinging, fast-paced, very black comedy featuring a cast of ten with live music played by the company on electric balalaikas and mouth organs.
