FROM THE PUBLISHER As we find ourselves in our 11th year of publishing Thunder Roads Ohio, it’s hard not to reflect back on some of the lessons we’ve learned along the way. And boy, have there been a lot. As I’ve shared before, when we first started producing this magazine – we really had no idea what we were doing. I spent a lot of time considering other magazines, the riding community itself, and really what I thought I’d want to see in a motorcycle magazine. In the end, we came up with a concept that centered around producing a magazine that was WORTH picking up and that served an ACTUAL PURPOSE to riders and the Midwest motorcycle community. We worked hard with these two core priorities in mind, and off we went. Within two years of our launch, we were amongst the largest and most read regional motorcycle magazines in the nation – and within five we were achieving national recognition for the concept that we had developed. Our competition had no idea what to make of us. They didn’t understand what we were doing – and they certainly didn’t understand how. So even as they scrambled to imitate us and copy our approach – they mocked us and called names like children on a playground. They called us the “Walmart” of the motorcycle community and alleged that we were actually some corporate entity masquerading as a community oriented business. In some cases, they actually printed this nonsense in their magazines, even though they really knew we were just another small family business struggling to make a living for those we supported. Some detractors, though, went even further to insult and insinuate wrongdoing within the community or even online through the various social media platforms. Even though, NONE of the nonsense was true – they continued on because they simply didn’t want to accept that we were putting out a better product that more people liked. And in many cases they may have even believed the character assault – even though it had no basis – simply because they couldn’t comprehend the idea that actually supporting charitable organizations and investing in the riding community could work as a business model. It wasn’t just rhetoric with us – it was part of our character and actual business plan, and they couldn’t understand it. Mettle (or metal) is the courage to carry on. If someone wants to “test your mettle”, they want to see if you have the heart to follow through when the going gets tough.” As we come out of one of the most challenging times in recent memory, our character as Americans is being challenging. The values of our entire nation and the actual METAL of each and every one of us is being challenged. Parties on both sides of government, corporate entities, and undoubtedly other persons in positions of power are attempting to manipulate us all. They sling mud and insults, make baseless accusations, and prey upon our uncertainties – in order to confuse and manipulate us, or even to simply silence us as we are overwhelmed by the craziness. We may not be perfect – none of us are; but we have values and drive. We help the unfortunate and care for those stranded. And when we find someone lost or down the wrong path – we take the time to get them back on the road and headed in the right direction. Not simply because we are good people – but because we know that someday, that will most likely be us as well. As we come out of “SOCIAL DISTANCING” and our proverbial bunkers – we need to remember WHO WE ARE and not simply accept the narrative that we are being told. And we CANNOT continue down this road of division and conflict that we are being lead down. Neither a loudmouth on social media or even a tirade from a congresswoman can really define who we are – unless we allow it. We need to believe in each other and the common sense and core values that we all have. We need to question the actual MERITS of what’s being said and not be swayed by the labels or name calling that we hear. These are crazy times, but we CANNOT allow anyone to cause us to forget who we are. We are all Americans – ALL OF US. I am PROUD to also be a BIKER from Ohio and regardless of what I’m riding or how I’m dressed – that’s WHO I AM. It’s time for us to GET OUT AND RIDE – and show them who we are. We need to ride for the causes and people we believe in – and we NEED to RIDE TO BE HEARD. We need to show them the METTLE that we are made of – it’s IRON – as we are blessed to not only be AMERICANS, but BIKERS as well. God Bless our Nation in these trying times, and let us all stay focused on the road ahead. Ride STRONG and I’ll see ya out there! Sincerely,
Derek

THE IRON COWBOY
Cover your Area for Thunder Roads and make money doing what you love! Reserve your spot in upcoming Road Rep and TRO Photography Seminars.
ONLINE PRE-REGISTRATION FOR RIDES – Easier than Ever!
Thunder Roads Ohio is looking to add more local Reps and Photographers all across Ohio over the next few months. This is a great opportunity for anyone that loves to ride and is active in the local riding community. You’ll have a chance to help support, promote and cover local riding events – and maybe even make some $$$ along the way! It’s a pretty good deal and chances are that you’re already doing 80% of what’s needed to be a Rep or Staff Photographer. As a TRO Road Rep, you’ll cover and distribute magazines to local businesses and events that riders support. As folks identify you as “their Thunder Roads guy or gal” – they will turn to you for help in getting their message out. You’ll be their means of reaching THOUSANDS of riders all across the Midwest and even nationally. With the support of the office, you’ll be able to help make local events a success and bring riders to businesses in your area. This isn’t a high-pressure sales job, but sure – you could make some good money if that’s what you’re looking for. As in most cases, you’ll get more out – the more effort you put in. If you’re just looking to have some fun and maybe make some extra cash – sure, that works. If you’re looking for some steady extra income or maybe even a new job with a VERY flexible work schedule – that can work as well. A lot of the leg-work can even be done from home. You can even become a REP for ReasonsToRide.com and help cover other parts of the country – while working “remotely” at home or on the road. As a TRO Photographer, you can help cover and promote local events – from rides and rallies to local bike nights and dealer events. You don’t really need fancy equipment, but sure a nice camera helps. However, the sad truth for many of us that have spent way too much on cameras over the years, is that our phones now have much more advanced cameras on them than what professionals used even just a few years ago. You take the pictures and then send them to us for publication in the magazine or online. In return you get designated as a Staff Photographer, score some cool gear, and get premier access to a lot of exciting events. You can even make some money or at least get expenses covered in most cases – attending events that you’d already be at, taking pictures that might already be taking. Now though, you’re sharing your pictures and getting recognized for your work – and maybe scoring some cash along the way! It’s a pretty good deal. If you’re interested in being either a TRO Road Rep or Staff Photographer, please send us an email as soon as possible – so we can let you know about the upcoming training seminars. These are informal get-togethers, where we explain things and share some insight into how it all works. You don’t have to have any sales or real photography experience – just a love of riding and the folks we meet while out on the road. You have to be reliable, somewhat responsible and professional – but we are all committed to having fun while doing this. It’s why we do it. Interested? Shoot us an email at ThunderRoadsOhio@gmail.com

THUNDER ROADS® OHIO MAGAZINE
Thunder Roads Ohio has teamed up with ReasonsToRide.com to offer event organizers and riding organizations the ability to offer riders and bike show exhibitors the ability to quickly and easily register in advance of shows and rides. In 2020, RTR introduced a new system that allowed riders to simply and easily sign up for events without ever leaving the event website – and without having to register on another service. Pre-registration allows organizers to more accurately plan and prepare for the event by having a listing of participants already committed to it. And in return, many organizers offered discounts and extra incentives – such as FREE T-shirts – to riders making the early pledge. Many ride organizers reported that their 2020 rides went easier and had better attendance than ever using the RtR system – and RtR has kicked things up even more for 2021 with DIGITAL CHECK-IN and TICKET SCANNING! This new system allows hosts to quickly and easily scan in riders using scanners provided by RtR or simply their own phones or ipads. Hundreds and even thousands of riders can quickly and easily be scanned in by just a few people using this system. This SAME system was initially designed by RtR Developers to handle concert and music festival tickets and has proven itself efficient and reliable over the last 5 years – processing over $5 MILLION in ticket sales. Riders and event organizers can check out the system by heading to ReasonsToRide.com and selecting EVENT TICKETS at the top of the page. For more information on hosting your upcoming RIDE REGISTRATION or offering DIGITAL TICKETING / SCANNING – email Events@ReasonsToRide.com

MOTORCYCLE MINISTRIES Independence It’s taken me a moment to really wrap my mind around what independence actually means to me. I get that it’s a word that speaks that all men are made free. I understand the purpose of the declaration made, And I truly do appreciate the foundation that was laid. What I really have a time with is it seems some have forgot,
COME RIDE WITH US! CMA is a servant minded interdenominational motorcycle ministry with a nondenominational message of hope and love through Jesus Christ. Enjoy the family atmosphere, make life-long friends, and join an army of people dedicated to changing the world, one heart at a time in the highways and byways. Visit us at www.cmausa.org for more information. Have a message you’d like to share? If you have a message that you’d like to share with riders across Ohio and the Midwest, let us know. TRO welcomes the opportunity to work with established motorcycle ministries. Feel free to share upcoming events with us as well, by emailing information to Events.ThunderRoads@gmail.com
The price was paid, the world was changed, the war between states was fought. At what cost our independence, that slowly slips away, There’s no more to be said or done so I will steal away and pray. I will pray for you and I will pray for me and I will pray for the land of the brave and free. For as long as there is breath inside, we will stand and fight with love and pride. Keep it simple…ride together, love one another and remember the One Who truly established this country…. Mary G.

TRO CHAMPIONSHIP BIKE SHOW SERIES
JULY UP
DATE!
The Bike Show Series
Over the last several years, Thunder Roads Ohio has worked to develop the TRO Championship Bike Show Series as a means of showcasing both the rides that our readers have and the amazing works of rolling art that local shops and builders have been producing in an informal, fun format. Along the way, we discovered that many local riders had never participated in a Bike Show – never considering that their bikes were “show worthy”. It turns out though, that most riders have an appreciation – even a love of motorcycles that goes beyond the amount of chrome on a bike or if there are water spots and dust on them. We’ve hosted Bike Shows at indoor venues showcasing bikes with less than a dozen miles on them – and we’ve hosted Bike Shows at outdoor venues ranging from dealership parking lots to grass fields with countless entries still hot from riding in from across the state! Throughout, we’ve discovered that it’s not always the most polished that gets the attention, but it’s the love and work that goes into the bike that everyone appreciates. Even if you’ve never participated in a Bike Show before, we encourage everyone to participate and have fun with the shows! Chances are that you’ll discover a greater appreciation for what makes your bike unique and meet some other folks with a similar passion. And we’re certain you’ll have a blast! The TRO Bike Show Series features local, regional, and nationally recognized shows that all builders and bike owners are welcome to participate in. Vintage, metric, v-twin, customs, restored antiques, “resto-mods”, trikes, and radicals are all welcome to the show. These shows are RIDE-IN shows, meaning the bikes are expected to be ridden and a little bit of road dust is fine. We don’t split hairs over trailering in bikes, but we do require that all bikes must be functioning. They must start and be able to be safely ridden on the road. Most of the shows include voting by event attendees and weighted judges scores. We use this approach to make certain we include both the “popular opinion” and an objective review of the bikes.

Interested in coming out? It’s easy!
Just visit us online at ThunderRoadsOhio.com and you can register for whichever show you’d like. By Pre-Registering, you are locking in your spot, saving a few dollars, and you’ll even get a FREE T-Shirt! Then come on out to the show! Specifics vary by show, but it’s generally an informal process. You’ll meet other builders and exhibitors – and most likely walk away with more than a few new friends in the motorcycle community.
NEW Vintage Classes! In response to the overwhelming interest in vintage bikes more classic bikes showing up at our shows - we will be adding VINTAGE RACING and VINTAGE TOURING classes as options for exhibitors taking part in the BIKE SHOW SERIES. As always, we will require at least 3 bikes in these classes to qualify for a BESTIN-CLASS AWARD – otherwise the bikes will be pooled with other Vintage bikes. The Machine Gun Preacher Returns to Ohio And the cool thing is – that “He’ll Be Back!”
To start the season off “right”, the Kingdom Knights Motorcycle Ministry and Akron Bible Church hosted a Bike Blessing and Ride this year with a special guest speaker – the Machine Gun Preacher (MGP) himself, Sam Childers. Thunder Roads Ohio was proud to help support this event and was able to catch up with Sam before the ride. Sam Childers is an ex-con biker that re-dedicated his life to rescuing and protecting children in the war zone of South Sudan and Uganda, Africa. He and his family founded and manage Angels of East Africa – which operates several orphanages and now even a truck stop in one of the most challenging spots in the world. It’s an unbelievable story that is even more unique and impressive than his mustache. If you’re unfamiliar with Sam and his work – I’d encourage you to check out the movie that was made about him, The Machine Gun Preacher. It features Gerald Butler as Sam and can be found on several online services. There’s also a documentary and countless news articles and interviews that you can find online. Not everyone likes Sam – or his methods – but there is one undeniable fact that even his detractors cannot challenge: Sam has made an AMAZING difference in the lives of THOUSANDS of CHILDREN. The Harmony Foundation awarded Sam the Mother Theresa International Award for Social Justice back in 2014 – an award that is endorsed by the Missionaries of Charity (the organization started by Mother Theresa) and also received by the Dalai Lama and Nobel Peace Prize winners. Yup, the Dalai Lama and a hard core biker from the hills of Pennsylvania.

I had a chance to spend some time with Sam years ago, when we first started the magazine. It was about that time that NBC Nightline did a story on the horrors of Sudan and Northern Uganda – introducing us to the monster known as Joseph Kony and the biker turned preacher that decided someone needed to step up for the children. It was an incredible story then and when we heard that Sam was returning to Ohio – we jumped at the chance to catch up and see what the Machine Gun Preacher was doing now. So, we rode down to Akron and met up with Sam. The folks from Kingdom Knights hosted a great event and we were able to do an interview and catch up on what was going on with the Machine Gun Preacher and Angels of East Africa. We will be posting the interview video online (www.ThunderRoadsOhio.com and on our Facebook page – www.Facebook.com/ThunderRoadsOhio) along with more discussion; but the long and short of it is pretty simple – he’s still there and still fighting for the kids! It was a powerful discussion that really resonated with a lot of issues we’ve been wrestling with – both locally and as a nation. There are so many challenges out there – that life can certainly be overwhelming. These days especially, we are left wondering what can one man (or woman) do? The answer is A LOT – we just need to commit ourselves and actually get out and MAKE A DIFFERENCE. I’d encourage everyone to check out his story and see the interview video online – and then consider joining us at an MGP Event. We have one scheduled for the end of July and will be posting more. We will also be sharing more ways for you to help and join in. Follow us on Facebook (www.Facebook.com/ ThunderRoadsOhio) for more updates. BIKE NIGHT w/ Sam Childers, the Machine Gun Preacher Sunday, July 25th 4-7pm Presented by Armored Disciples M/M at Rocky River United Methodist Church 19414 Detroit Rd, Rocky River OH 44116 There will be Live Music by Billy Morris and The Sunset Strip, Smokin’ Rock n’ Roll BBQ, Ice Cream, Prizes and Giveaways!
Thunder Roads Ohio will be onsite, and we hope to see you there!

Royal Enfield Motorcycles THE EARLY DAYS
WORLD WAR II BIKES
Royal Enfield Motorcycles were not the bestselling Classic British Motorcycles, but they were often unique and interesting. Like so many British Motorcycle Companies at the time, Royal Enfield started out making bicycles in 1893 as the Enfield Manufacturing Company Ltd. By 1899, they’d build their first Quadricycle with a DeDion engine. They added “Royal” to the Enfield name. In 1912 they started racing with their Royal Enfield Model 80, powered by a 770cc JAP V-twin, enjoying some success at the Isle of Man TT and Brooklands.
Despite all this, the company was in dire financial straights, but limping along. In 1931, one of the founders, Albert Eddie dies, then 2 years later, his parter RW Smith dies also. Times were tough, the Depression had set in, but Royal Enfield Motorcycles managed to keep it going. WWII hit at just the right time & again they were flooded with lucrative government contracts for gobs of military motorcycles, a collection that included a 250cc side-valve (SV), a 350cc SV, two 350cc OHVs, a 570cc SV & the most famous of them all, “The Flying Flea”. The Flea was a lightweight, rugged 125cc two-stroke that could be parachuted in with airborne troops. To avoid bombing, a brand new factory was built underground in Westwood, England, where it was found that the constant temperatures were ideal for making not only motorcycles, but “predictor” detonators for antiaircraft artillery shells. Dangerous work, that.
WORLD WAR I & AFTER WWI brought rich contracts from both the British War Department and Imperial Russia for 3 different models: a 225cc two-stroke; a 425cc V-twin; and an 8hp sidecar rig with a Vickers machine gun mounted on it. With war’s end, Royal Enfield Motorcycles concentrated on the civilian market with a new 976cc V-twin in 1921 and their first 4-stroke single, albeit with a JAP 350cc engine. Saddle tanks and center-sprung girder front forks (state-of-the-art for the day, and Royal Enfield Motorcycles was one of the first to adopt it) were added in 1928.
After the war, Royal Enfield Motorcycles resumed civilian production with the 350cc OHV Model G single & the 500cc OHV Model J single, both with rigid frames & telescopic forks. In 1948 they unveiled their groundbreaking new swing arm rear suspension, one of the first to do so. By the late 1950s, Royal Enfield was struggling again financially & so sold manufacturing rights & tooling to Madras Motors in India & production of 350cc Royal Enfield Bullets commenced in India, where it continues to this day.

ABOVE: Last year of Interceptor production was 1970. This is a '70 model.
TWINS FROM ENGLAND But at this point, Royal Enfield was still building bikes themselves at their Bradford-on-Avon factory in England. In 1949, they joined the Vertical Twin Race with their own 500cc Royal Enfield Meteor. By 1953, they’d punched it out to 700cc (hoping to trump Triumph & BSA who only had 650s) for the Royal Enfield Super Meteor, then again in 1962 to 750cc in the Royal Enfield Interceptor. All the while, they 30
THE END DRAWS NEAR By this time, the horsepower race was on, the Japanese were on their way and everyone was pumping up their bikes for more power. Royal Enfield followed suit with its Series I & Series II 750cc Interceptor, now good for a 13-sec quarter mile at 105 mph. The US loved the bike, but cash-strapped Royal Enfield was unable to produce them in large enough volumes quickly enough to meet the demand. That and a reputation for leaking oil (earning them the nickname “Royal Oilfield”) lead to their final slide into insolvency. By 1967, production has stopped and by 1970, the factory was closed for good, at which time Royal Enfield was acquired by Manganese Bronze Holdings and added to the scrap heap that would become NortonVilliers (which would ultimately include Triumph, BSA, Norton, Matchless/AJS, James, FrancisBarnett, et al).

built lots of 18hp 250cc OHV Royal Enfield Crusaders. They also dabbled in two-strokes, like the Villiers-engined 250 Turbo Twin. Nothing seemed to add up to the sales they needed to survive.

SOME INTERESTING TWISTS Another sad story of a British Motorcycle Maker failing to embrace changing times. But there were some very interesting and unique aspects to the Royal Enfield Motorcycle story. First, that they are still being produced today in India as the fuel-injected, electric-start 500cc OHV single, the Royal Enfield Bullet. This new ‘Indian Enfield’ is built in a variety of styles, some mimicking military machines and Classic British Motorcycles. OHIO’S MOTORCYCLE MAGAZINE
INDIAN ENFIELDS & ENFIELD INDIANS
3 CENTURIES OF BIKES
Another interesting twist is how Indian Motorcycles rebadged them as Indians and sold them in the US market. Interesting story. Indian had itself changed hands during WWII & after the war, the new owners wanted to get out of the heavy V-twin market and embrace the ‘new wave’ of bikes pouring in from Britain. They had tried unsuccessfully to lobby the US government to impose heavy tariffs and limits on British imports. When that failed, they decided that if you can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em. Indian squandered their dwindling resources on trying to build their own vertical twin on the British mold, but failed miserably. So, they became the exclusive US importers for Royal Enfield Motorcycles in 1953, which they promptly painted bright red and slapped Indian logos onto. And gave them very odd names like ‘Indian Chief’, ‘Tomohawk’ and ‘Hounds Fire Arrow’. Indian Motorcycles had thrown all its eggs into the Royal Enfield basket when it ended decades of production of its own V-twin. Unfortunately, the rebadged ‘Enfield Indians’ didn’t sell well and so the marketing agreement was cancelled in 1960, at which point Royal Enfield Motorcycles became available in the US under their own name.
Lastly, Royal Enfield is the only motorcycle company still building bikes who can claim to have done so over a span of 3 centuries! Not even old-timers Triumph Motorcycles (1902) & Harley-Davidson (1903) can claim that! Our thanks to www.classic-british-motorcycles. com for sharing this feature.
BELOW: This 1956 Indian Trailblazer was actually a Royal Enfield Meteor-style 700cc twin, imported to the US by Indian and rebadged as an Indian Motorcycle. Note the Indian Head lighted mascot on the front fender. Even that couldn't help sales though. It bombed.
So, another oddity is that there are then “Indian Enfields” & “Enfield Indians”

The Easyriders Rodeos RETURN for 2021! Five-Day Motorcycle Rally and Festival Features Concerts by BLACK STONE CHERRY, Georgia ThunderBolts, Tim Montana, Jasmine Cain, and a full schedule of 2 Wheeled RODEO Madness! Easyriders Events is once again bringing its annual Motorcycle Rodeos to the Ross County Fairgrounds in Chillicothe and Fowlerville Fairgrounds in Michigan - where thousands of bikers and motorcycle enthusiasts will converge for camping, live music, and rodeo competitions on two-wheeled steel ponies. It’s a celebration of the biker lifestyle with concerts ranging from biker blues to hard-hitting rock. Plus, you’ll find the very best motorcycle-lifestyle related vendors in the country, a ride-in bike show and much more. Beyond the stage and vendor area, Rodeo attendees will be able to camp on-site for the duration of the event, with early bird camping in Chillicothe beginning on Wednesday, September 2nd. Easyriders Events offers all amenities on-site for guests including shower and bathroom facilities, allowing enthusiasts to maximize their time on-site throughout the weekend. “Easyriders Rodeos are strictly 18 and over events that offer unparalleled opportunity for participants to transcend their normal everyday lives and really let their hair down. For many, these events are an annual getaway from work, the kids and the stresses of everyday life,” says Kari Roben, Event Manager.
Chillicothe, the first capital of the state of Ohio, is centrally located between two major metropolitan areas – Columbus and Cincinnati – attracting many for its beautiful riding country and secluded atmosphere, making the Easyriders Rodeo a favorite adults-only summer destination since 1987. For those in Northwestern Ohio, or those that simply want to double their dose of RODEO MADNESS – there’s Fowlerville in Michigan, August 20-22nd. A slightly smaller, more compact version of Chillicothe – Fowlerville has its own twist on the rodeo experience!
Both rodeo’s are THUNDER RUN EVENTS – and you can WIN Thunder Roads prizes simply by posting pics to your Facebook page with the hashtag #ThunderRun! You must also “like” the Thunder Roads Ohio page – in order to participate in the Thunder Run RIDE n WIN Challenge. See page 12 for more information.
For those who want to get in on the Rodeo action, the dirt track offers something for everyone. Attendees can participate in the fan favorite Barstool Races, in which they race –you guessed it– a motorized barstool against friends and strangers through a winding track bordered by hay bales. The action-packed races are just as exciting to participate in as they are to watch from the grandstands – as they always deliver unbeatable entertainment. There are a variety of additional events that are open to the public, and the sign-up cost of your first rodeo event is included in the price of a weekend wristband. Details are available on-site and all are encouraged to participate and truly become a part of the rodeo experience. There will be a multitude of unique motorcycle-related vendors setting up shop on the show’s midway; including motorcycle professionals, builders, parts & accessories manufacturers, riding gear, leather smiths and jewelry designers. BIKE INSPECTION
TRACK DAY CHECKLISTS!
o Check all body bolts / nuts
Here’s a basic checklist of items that you want to make sure that you have – and that you INSPECT prior to leaving for the track. This is just a starting point, so feel free to add things to your own list of gear and must-have’s that you don’t want to forget! GEAR
o Fenders o Side panels o Fork guards o Brake line guide o Radiator shrouds
o Helmet - always check for cracks and to make sure buckles are fastening properly
o Gas tank
o Goggles - check lenses for any sort of damage and make sure band is fitted properly
o Chain guide and roller
o Goggle Tear-Offs
o Torque axle nuts to spec
o Bars/Triple clamps
o Race Collar/neck protection - make sure Velcro/closure is in working order
o Tighten and adjust spokes o Check oil drain plug/skid plate

SHINE 'N IRON
M nshiners and Motorcycles
Did you know that there is a Moonshine Festival in Ohio that has been going on for 50 years? Neither did I. I had the pleasure of setting up a booth at 50th Annual Moonshine in New Straitsville, Ohio with other Ohio Master Distiller contestants, Tom Spisak III, Shawn Rigsby, and Steve Watson. This was a small town festival with Moonshine Queen, Lil’ Moonshine, small tractor pulls and A Memorial Day Parade. The Moonshine Festival has historic significance. The town is the first place that Coal Miners organized a union. During that time, the miners set the mine on fire by sending a flaming coal car full of wood down into the mine. We were told parts of the mine are still on fire under ground today. The time period was during Prohibition. We were told that the smoke from the mine fire coming out from underground made it difficult for the Government Revenuers to find the moonshiners because they couldn’t tell if it was smoke from a still or the coal.
specialty spirits made from Ohio grown agricultural products including heirloom corn. It’s owner and head distiller is Lawrence Pritchard III, who was on season one of Moonshiner’s Master Distiller. Lawrence comes from a farming and moonshining family originating in Southern Ohio. His grandfather, Lawrence Pritchard Sr. was a moonshiner and bootlegger in Ross County Ohio. Their portfolio is expanding with spirits made in collaborations with Moonshiners Stars, Van Fields and Ewok, The North Carolina Moonshine Mamas, Marge in Charge and Country Music Star, Whey Jennings, grandson of Waylon Jennings. All of these recently released spirits, are in addition to their own, Strawberry Moonshine, Winter Rye and Sweet Corn Whiskey. The Distillery and Tasting room are located in the DORA area of Napoleon, Ohio. They offer tours, tastings and specialty cocktails. The location makes it a great ride destination. Stop in and check it out.
The festival has had a legal permit to run a still since 1970 but the product has to be wasted.

FUNNY STUFF BECAUSE EVERYONE NEEDS A GOOD LAUGH NOW AND THEN... Well shit.. I think my license might be in jeopardy.. and all just because of a stupid state trooper... The conversation went like this, when I got pulled over on my bike: Trooper: "License and registration, please, I think you are drunk!" Me: "I assure you, I did not drink anything." Trooper: "Ok, let's do a little test! Imagine driving in the dark on a highway at night, when you see two lights in the distance. What is this?" Me: "A car." Two Irish lads had been out shacking up with their girl friends. One felt guilty and decided he should stop at the church and confess. He went into the confession booth and told the Father, "Father, I have sinned. I have committed fornication with a lady. Please forgive me." The Father said, "Tell me who the lady was." The lad said he couldn't do that and the Father said he couldn't grant him forgiveness unless he did. "Was it Mollie O'Grady ?" asked the Father." "No." "Was it Rosie Kelly?" "No." "Was it that red-headed wench Tessie O'Malley?" "No." "Well then," said the Father, "You'll not be forgiven." When the lad met his friend outside the friend asked, "So, did you find forgiveness." "No," said the other, "but I picked up three good prospects!"
Trooper:"Of course! But which one? A Mercedes, an Audi or a Ford?" Me:"I have no idea!" Trooper:"So, you're drunk." Me:"But I didn't drink anything." Trooper:"Okay, one more test -- Imagine, you drive in the dark on a highway at night, and there is one light coming at you. What is it? Me:"A motorcycle." Trooper:"Of course! But which one? A Honda, a Kawasaki or a Harley?" Me:"I have no idea!" Trooper:"As I suspected, you're drunk!" Then I started to get annoyed and asked a counter question.
A blonde, a brunette, and a redhead all die. In order to get into heaven though, they must go up 100 steps, each containing a joke. The trick is that they must not laugh. The brunette goes first and laughs at the first step and is sent to hell. The redhead goes next and makes it to the seventh step before she laughs. Finally, it’s the blondes turn. She gets all the way to the 99th step before she laughs. God asks her, “You were so close, why did you laugh?” and she responds, “I just got the first joke!”
Me: "So... counter question -- You're driving in the dark on a highway at night and see a woman on the roadside. She wears a mini skirt, fishnet stockings, high heeled shoes and only a bra as a top. What is this?" Trooper:"A prostitute of course." Me:"Yes, but which one? Your daughter, your wife or your mother?" Things went downhill from there and now I have a court date to attend...

An oldie but a goodie! Cook the onions over medium-low about half way through, stirring occasionally Deglaze with 2 tbsp chicken stock (or water) and stir to scrape up the stuck-on bits. Once the onions are nicely caramelized, about 20 to 30 minutes, add the garlic and cook for a minute more. Remove to a bowl and cover it with foil. Add a little more oil to the pan and return to the heat.

To grill: cook for 30-40 minutes turning every 5
Add to the pan and cook the chicken over medium low heat Add in 2 tbsp chicken stock about half way through and cover with a lid
To Oven Roast:Bake @ 350 for 30 minutes
Once chicken is nicely browned on both sides, turn off the heat Pile the cooked onions on top, then add the cheese Replace the lid and allow the cheese to melt in the residual heat in the pan Spread mayo on bottom half of the bun, pile on baby spinach Place the chicken breast on top of spinach, add the top bun and CHOW DOWN!! 64

OHIO’S MOTORCYCLE MAG! TRO SCAVENGER HUNT
The TRO SCAVENGER HUNT is a special, indoor THUNDER RUN through the pages of our very own magazine. Hidden someplace within the depth of these pages is a special TRO PRIZE LOGO – see the sample here. It’s a version of our “wheel logo” with a treasure chest on it. It was inspired by Cole’s favorite TV show – Jake and the Neverland Pirates! When you find it, shoot us an email at BuckeyeThunderRun@ gmail.com with SCAVENGER HUNT in the subject line. Let us know what page and exactly where the logo is in this month’s magazine and we will put you in the drawing for some great TRO prizes – including some great gear and subscriptions to the magazine! How cool is that?! Scavenger Hunt Winner: kStacey E,
