THUNDER ROADS® OHIO MAGAZINE
FROM THE PUBLISHER Well, Ohio’s riding season is officially upon us. May seems the traditional starting point with Bike Blessings, Bike Nights starting up, and of course – Ohio Bike Week kicking things up over Memorial Weekend. Well, that’s how it’s traditionally gone at least. Of course, this is a Spring like no other – coming off a game changing year that has had everyone guessing since last March. Nobody has ever been through anything like this, and nobody really knows what to expect this summer. But one thing is for sure – we are going to be riding. This magazine is jam packed with places to go and things to see. We are back up to over 70 pages of bike nights, rides, bike shows, and at least two rallies to kick things off at the end of the month. However, the onus of state restrictions and COVID guidelines are still hanging over us all at this point and capacity / social gathering restrictions are still limiting live music / concert venues as I write this. Hopefully, all of that will change shortly; and our state can re-open in time for a less restrictive summer. I hope. Regardless, it’s going to be on us to do something that the entire nation as a whole seem incapable of at this time. We’re going to need to come together – and ride as one. We need to get out there and support the businesses, rides, and charitable organizations that many of us have just taken for granted for far too many years. It’s always seemed just a given that so many things would just continue on, and my continued remarks about “Supporting The Riding Community” has seemed more of a sales pitch than a call for help. But alas, we are indeed in desperate times for a lot of our favorite events and ride stops. Don’t get me wrong – this isn’t a time for doom and gloom. At this point, there are more bikes out on the road than ever before in the history of our state. Motorcycle sales – new and used combined, have been through the roof – and more and more folks are getting their old bikes out on the road again. All of the sales metrics for bikes and used parts, service – all support this. There’s A LOT to be optimistic about, and I’m optimistic that we will see our state restrictions roll back. Now, it’s just up to us to get out and support the events and businesses that give us places to go and things to do throughout the year. And it’s not enough to simply walk through their doors – we need to be positive and supportive. Understand that everyone has been through a lot. Understand that staffing is an incredible challenge that has countless small businesses struggling to handle even the limited capacity that they are allowed at this point. We need to walk in as the supportive Brothers and Sisters we are – and not simply be the demanding customers that we might have been in the past. Many of our favorite shops and bars are closing. Many of our favorite rides and rallies are no more, and it’s not just the COVID guidelines that have shut people down. It’s all the challenges of the past year – and many people reconsidering the hassle and stress of hosting events or running a small local business, especially these days. We need to be more supportive and understanding – and support the folks we want to see stay open. We need to come together and support the rides, events, and small businesses all across our state. No matter how much strife and division the news seems to be portraying across the country. We know better. We are all Brothers and Sisters on the open road. When we come across what might seem like a total stranger in need – we will step up and take care of things. Because we know that they are just a friend, a brother, or a sister that we haven’t met yet. We are in this together, and we will beat it together. Looking forward to seeing everyone at Bike Nights, Bike Shows, Rides, and Rallies all across Ohio this summer. Ride Strong and Be Heard in 2021! Sincerely, D. A. Smith

THE IRON COWBOY
Cover your Area for Thunder Roads and make money doing what you love!
Reserve your spot in upcoming Road Rep and TRO Photography Seminars. Thunder Roads Ohio is looking to add more local Reps and Photographers all across Ohio over the next few months. This is a great opportunity for anyone that loves to ride and is active in the local riding community. You’ll have a chance to help support, promote and cover local riding events – and maybe even make some $$$ along the way! It’s a pretty good deal and chances are that you’re already doing 80% of what’s needed to be a Rep or Staff Photographer. As a TRO Road Rep, you’ll cover and distribute magazines to local businesses and events that riders support. As folks identify you as “their Thunder Roads guy or gal” – they will turn to you for help in getting their message out. You’ll be their means of reaching THOUSANDS of riders all across the Midwest and even nationally. With the support of the office, you’ll be able to help make local events a success and bring riders to businesses in your area. This isn’t a high-pressure sales job, but sure – you could make some good money if that’s what you’re looking for. As in most cases, you’ll get more out – the more effort you put in. If you’re just looking to have some fun and maybe make some extra cash – sure, that works. If you’re looking for some steady extra income or maybe even a new job with a VERY flexible work schedule – that can work as well. A lot of the leg-work can even be done from home. You can even become a REP for ReasonsToRide.com and help cover other parts of the country – while working “remotely” at home or on the road. As a TRO Photographer, you can help cover and promote local events – from rides and rallies to local bike nights and dealer events. You don’t really need fancy equipment, but sure a nice camera helps. However, the sad truth for many of us that have spent way too much on cameras over the years, is that our phones now have much more advanced cameras on them than what professionals used even just a few years ago. You take the pictures and then send them to us for publication in the magazine or online. In return you get designated as a Staff Photographer, score some cool gear, and get premier access to a lot of exciting events. You can even make some money or at least get expenses covered in most cases – attending events that you’d already be at, taking pictures that might already be taking. Now though, you’re sharing your pictures and getting recognized for your work – and maybe scoring some cash along the way! It’s a pretty good deal. If you’re interested in being either a TRO Road Rep or Staff Photographer, please send us an email as soon as possible – so we can let you know about the upcoming training seminars. These are informal get-togethers, where we explain things and share some insight into how it all works. You don’t have to have any sales or real photography experience – just a love of riding and the folks we meet while out on the road. You have to be reliable, somewhat responsible and professional – but we are all committed to having fun while doing this. It’s why we do it. Interested? Shoot us an email at ThunderRoadsOhio@gmail.com

Need some Banners for your business or upcoming event? TRO can create full color, vinyl banners far more cost effectively than most local shops and even online resources. Our banners can cost as little as $2 a square foot – that’s FAR LESS than even half the cost that many places charge. We can also help create the artwork and even craft your message – that’s kinda what we do. And for Nonprofits and charitable events – we might even be able to line up some sponsors and help defray your costs even more! If that’s the case – don’t you owe it to your organization and the folks you’re helping to find out more? We can also make REALLY cool banners for your home shop, garage, or man-cave even! Have a cool picture that you really like? We can blow it up and make a big banner of it! Just email us at ThunderRoadsOhio@gmail.com for more information.

THUNDER ROADS SCORE: LA POLICE GEAR We’re proud to welcome LA POLICE GEAR to the Thunder Roads and ReasonsToRide.com family. They are a legit company founded in 2001 by Los Angeles area Police Officers that wanted to create a reliable source for quality gear at a reasonable price. Now, twenty years later – they are a one-stop shop for tactical, duty, and outdoor gear; military equipment; and outdoor equipment needs. Almost all of which have practical applications for riders. We will now be offering specialized links to their pages through ThunderRoadsOhio.com – which will allow you access to discounted rates on quality gear and accessories, while supporting the local riding community at the same time! Here’s an example of a great find that we scored off their page
Watch for TRO TOUR EVENTS! After more than a year hiatus, the Thunder Roads Ohio Crew will be hitting the road and once again setting up at Bike Nights, Rallies, and Rides all across Ohio! The team will be covering the events and shooting for the magazine, hosting giveaways, and interviewing potential team members while set up. TRO Event trailers will offer merchandise and of course – copies of OHIO’S MOTORCYCLE MAG!
For year’s my favorite riding boots have been lace-up duty boots – with a side zipper for easy on and off. I found them to be a much more practical version of the standard issue “Jump Boots” that I rode in from year’s ago. It seemed like every rally I went to had at least 1-2 vendors selling the same brand at around $100 a pair. Unfortunately these mostly “nylon” versions rarely lasted more than a season or two. But I enjoyed the support and comfort of a high lace up boot – with the ease of the zipper. So, when I saw these on the LAPG website – I jumped on them, only hesitating when I saw the price. With the discounts, they were far less than HALF the price of what I was used to paying over the years. But looking over the description these sounded even better – so I gave them a try. Right out of the box, it was clear that these were a solid build. Slip and Oil resistant soles, reinforced eyelets, and a blend of lightweight / breathable mesh with polishable quality leather where it counted. So, I’ve spent the Spring wearing these and am more than pleased with the results. These boots have proven to be the most comfortable duty boot I’ve worn in years – on par with boots that I’ve paid 3-5x as much for. And in the most critical test – wearing them non-stop for 12-15 hours – they’ve excelled. They have removable “EnduroPro” inserts – which really do make them comfortable over the long haul and their relative light weight makes them barely noticeable. The support they offer, though, really makes a difference.

MOTORCYCLE MINISTRIES AWARENESS MONTH IS HERE!!
Welcome to May! So much is happening around us that it makes my head spin! May 1st for CMA is our Run for the Son day. At least 100 miles, rain or shine, is dedicated to bringing awareness and financial donations to help us do what we do for the motorcycling community around us! We only have one fundraiser in CMA and this is it. What is the money used for? You might ask. All money collected is given to four ministries for the spreading of the Gospel: 1. 20% to Open Doors Ministry dedicated to taking Bibles and other material to places where Christianity is not taught, and sometimes forbidden. Their mission is to make sure everyone has a choice and a chance to hear the true message of Salvation. 2. 20% to Jesus Film Project dedicated to translating the Jesus film into every language in order for all to hear the story of Jesus and how He gave His life so we can live. As of this writing they have succeeded in translating into 1800+ different languages around the world! 3. 20% to Missionary Ventures who are dedicated to giving motorcycles, bicycles, boats, camels and even a Yak to pastors in countries where travel is difficult and churches are far apart. Some pastors have several churches they oversee and there are many miles and mountains to cross to get to each one. We have seen families rigged up on trailbikes riding with very innovative ways of getting everyone on board! 4. Last but most definitely not least, 40% goes to CMA for the materials we use to bring the Gospel to you! Every cup you drink out of comes from generous people who care about the mission we are on to bring the Love of Jesus to those who have yet to hear or see. Our Vision is Changing the world, one heart at a time and this is how we do it. No monies raised go for the general operations of the Christian Motorcyclists Association, that is done through the faithful donations of our members. On this same day, we try to schedule our ride around you and places having awareness rides or Bike Blessings. We are here for you, so if you need us to assist in praying and blessing, just contact us at graceme.mg@gmail.com and we will get someone in your area to help! That does not mean we only do this on May 1st, we do this anytime during the year! There it is! The best gift we have for you is making sure we are bringing you the best opportunity to find the wonder of life that brings us such great peace and joy in the process of this sometimes not so great life. We look forward to sharing the road and seeing you in the wind!! Mary G. PS…We are inviting all who would like to join us for our first Roads & Trails run May 14-16, 2021

TRO CHAMPIONSHIP BIKE SHOW SERIES
MAY UPD
ATE!
The Bike Show Series Over the last several years, Thunder Roads Ohio has worked to develop the TRO Championship Bike Show Series as a means of showcasing both the rides that our readers have and the amazing works of rolling art that local shops and builders have been producing in an informal, fun format. Along the way, we discovered that many local riders had never participated in a Bike Show – never considering that their bikes were “show worthy”. It turns out though, that most riders have an appreciation – even a love of motorcycles that goes beyond the amount of chrome on a bike or if there are water spots and dust on them. We’ve hosted Bike Shows at indoor venues showcasing bikes with less than a dozen miles on them – and we’ve hosted Bike Shows at outdoor venues ranging from dealership parking lots to grass fields with countless entries still hot from riding in from across the state! Throughout, we’ve discovered that it’s not always the most polished that gets the attention, but it’s the love and work that goes into the bike that everyone appreciates. Even if you’ve never participated in a Bike Show before, we encourage everyone to participate and have fun with the shows! Chances are that you’ll discover a greater appreciation for what makes your bike unique and meet some other folks with a similar passion. And we’re certain you’ll have a blast! The TRO Bike Show Series features local, regional, and nationally recognized shows that all builders and bike owners are welcome to participate in. Vintage, metric, v-twin, customs, restored antiques, “resto-mods”, trikes, and radicals are all welcome to the show. These shows are RIDE-IN shows, meaning the bikes are expected to be ridden and a little bit of road dust is fine. We don’t split hairs over trailering in bikes, but we do require that all bikes must be functioning. They must start and be able to be safely ridden on the road. Most of the shows include voting by event attendees and weighted judges scores. We use this approach to make certain we include both the “popular opinion” and an objective review of the bikes.

Sport Touring Corner By Norm Kern, MSTA Editor / ReasonsToRide.com Contributor
“Should I buy heated grips or heated
Norm & Doug's Dual Sport Ride, Dillard, Georgia, April 1-4, 2021 Six of us, Mike Lauvray, Ritch Prindle, Allan Skinner, Ron Vess, Jim Goody and I went North and picked up our route on Walking Stick road. We didn't know that Doug's local contact had advised him that this road might be too wet and muddy right then, so while we forged ahead, Doug took the rest of the group South on an alternate route. Walking Stick road was pretty technical with huge gullies, some more than 4 feet deep on uphills and downhills. Fortunately the walls of the gullies sloped enough that if you went into one, you just slid down the side and rode in more rocks and mud until you got a chance to get out- nothing too steep, and not too muddy. Creek crossings were up a bit but were not a problem.
Kicked off the Sport-Touring season with lots of fun at the MSTA Just-For-Fun Norm & Doug's Dual-Sport ride at Dillard, Georgia. We had about twenty riders, all of whom came prepared with capable bikes, riding gear, skill and experience. We didn't know in advance how well things would go, as there was 1.5 inches of rain on Wednesday and Thursday was COLD with the temperature only getting to about forty degrees.
Once past Walking Stick, we rode another fifteen miles of the route and eventually passed Doug's group going the other way. Due to the late start and shorter route, there was no lunch stop. We got back to the hotel about 3:30 PM, so we grabbed an early dinner at the Cupboard Cafe in Dillard. That turned out to be a good plan, because by the time we left there was a long line of people waiting to be seated. Friday's ride: Weather was still cold and breezy with a high temperature of only fifty degrees. We waited until 11 AM to start- the temperature was still a little under forty, but the sunny clear sky helped a lot! Due to the late start, we ran a short eighty-five mile route that went East from Dillard and included parts of North and South Carolina. There were about a dozen riders for Friday's ride and we started out in a single large group. About thirty miles into the ride, there was a road Doug hadn't ridden in a couple years that turned out to be blocked off with big mounds of dirt, so we turned around and came back out to the paved road. 26
THUNDER ROADS® OHIO MAGAZINE
Saturday's ride: The weather was about ten degrees warmer than Friday, but it still took until about 10 AM to reach forty degrees. We started the day with eighteen riders for the 180 mile route. Doug's plan was to detour around the Charley's Creek section to avoid some jeep trails that were sure to be badly rutted and muddy. That involved a last-minute change to much of the first 60 miles of the route, so Doug led everyone in a single group. The only mishap of the day was at a water crossing. It was about fifteen feet wide, but about a foot deep in the middle with fast running water. Doug went first, and started getting swept sideways by the current. He revved his bike and flipped it coming out the other side. Doug was OK and the bike didn't land in the water. After that little demonstration, everyone else made it across OK.

Once we got back on the regular route, we split into two groups. At around 2 PM, about 105 miles into the route, we stopped at Lynn's Place Restaurant in Robbinsville, NC. It's one of our favorite lunch stops- plenty of good food served by friendly waitresses who speak with the most lovely Southern accent you will ever hear. The riding had been great all day, but after lunch we had some drama added to it. Allan Skinner passed a slow Jeep driver on a rough gravel road who then took off after him and demanded he stop. The Jeep driver claimed that Allan had roosted him with a rock that chipped his windshield. Turns out there was lots of other damage to the front end of the Jeep, and it definitely was not fresh. Even the small chip in the windshield looked like it had been there a while. Allan gave him insurance info and we went on. Saturday's route wound up being a glorious 192 miles on a beautiful sunny day, but four miles from the finish, a German shepherd dog ran out to chase us. He went right in front of Mike Lauvray, who ran over him and went down. Mike's bike got bent handlebars and some scrapes on the right side. Mike hit the pavement, but his gear did the job. He got a small abrasion on his right arm and one bruised toe. The dog ran away and could not be found. The owners of the dog called the police and three county sheriffs and a state trooper showed up. They questioned witnesses and explained the law in North Carolina, which is basically that animal strikes are an "act of God" and there is no legal liability either way. They declined to write a report, but it still added another hour to an already long day. By the time we got back to the hotel, loaded the bikes and got a shower, it was 8:30 PM. We went to the local Mexican restaurant for some Negro Modelo draft beer, margaritas, and dinner, seasoned with lots of good conversation. Got to bed late, came home Sunday. All in all, it was a fantastic start to the riding season! THUNDER ROADS® OHIO MAGAZINE

The 2021 Progressive Spring Rally A NEW take on the North Coast rally welcomes riders to Sandusky. After months of deliberation and waiting for restrictions to be lifted, It had reached a point where a decision had to be made and unfortunately, the hosts of Ohio Bike Week (OBW) really had no choice – they had to proceed without the World Famous Block Party which has come to define OBW for many. Restrictions on concert venues, occupancy restrictions, and socially distancing mandates made it virtually impossible for the show to go on as riders from across the Midwest would expect of Ohio Bike Week. The block party with thousands of riders rocking in the streets of downtown Sandusky was just too much of a risk in the eyes of local and state officials. So the announcement was made – there would be no Block Party or massive FREE concerts in the streets of Sandusky. So,what does that leave us? First and foremost, it leaves us with the Mad River HarleyDavidson campus – which has long been a core component of OBW programming. With their lot packed with vendors, it’s traditionally the first stop for most riders coming to Sandusky for the rally. It’s where people pick up their HOG pins and Official Ohio Bike Week merchandise – both of which are still there this year. Beyond Mad River H-D, riders are left with… Well, the rest of “Vacationland” essentially! 28

MAD RIVER HARLEY-DAVIDOSN SPRING RALLY
Erie and Ottawa Counties with Sandusky in between comprise what many refer to as Ohio’s Vacationland and MILLIONS of visitors come to the region year-round to enjoy the islands and shoreline communities. There’s an almost endless number of cool ride stops and destinations in the area for riders to enjoy. Year’s ago – Sandusky played host to the State HOG (Harley Owner’s Group) Rally in an effort to showcase the area. Riders came and had a blast. The event organizers and community decided why not do it again the following year – and Ohio Bike Week was born. Over the years, Ohio Bike Week has evolved into the Midwest’s kick-off to riding season. The Downtown Block Party, traditionally held the final weekend of OBW, has come to be an incredible culmination of the week. Regional favorites and national headliners perform on stages sprinkled throughout the streets and parking lots of downtown Sandusky to packed crowds. THOUSANDS of riders fill the streets. It’s an incredible spectacle for anyone that’s seen it – and unfortunately it’s Dr. Fauci and Governor DeWine’s worst nightmare. A “Super Spreader Event” if there ever was one in their eyes – so despite all the vaccinations and optimism spreading across the nation, events such as the Block Party are still prohibited. With the support of Progressive Insurance and Ohio Bike Week, Mad River Harley-Davidson will be hosting many of the traditional rally components that people have come to expect over the years. Working with the local Board of Health and State, Mad River has developed a plan that allows them to host vendors and rides for those looking to still make the annual trip to Ohio’s Vacationland on two wheels. With the situation changing almost daily, a lot of the exact offerings at Mad River are evolving as the restrictions are lifted. We would strongly recommend you visit and like not only the Thunder Roads Ohio page on facebook (www. facebook.com/ThunderRoadsOhio) but also the Mad River Harley-Davidson (www.facebook.com/madriverhd) and Ohio Bike Week pages as well. We will all be updating our pages with new information almost daily as things change. (Continued p.30)

SHINE 'N IRON
M nshiners and Motorcycles I have been out and about enjoying my new “Celebrity “ status as a Moonshiners Master Distiller. I just attended the Winter Hillbilly Jam in Maggie Valley, North Carolina. Many of the Moonshiners and Master Distillers from the Discovery Channel show were in attendance. The evening events were held at The Smoky Falls Lodge and Valley Tavern on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Saturday Afternoon, A Meet-N-Greet event was held at The Elevated Mountain Distillery. Many of the Moonshiners and Master Distillers set up a booths to sign autographs, sell merchandise and take photos with their fans. People came from all over the United States for the event. I spoke with people who had traveled from Texas, California, Florida, and Nebraska. The Meet-N- Greet event at Elevated Mountain Distillery was a fund raiser for Paws, a local no kill animal shelter. The $3 admission to the event and donated items auctioned went to the shelter. Over $5000 were raised for the shelter. Being a mechanic by trade, I spent some time talking with Tom Sarmento, the lead mechanic for the General Lee from The Dukes of Hazzard TV series that aired from 1979-1985. He kept all the cars from the TV show in working order. He said that over 300 General Lee cars were used on the set and only a few have survived. He drove one down to the Meet-N-Greet. “Moonshiner Kelly”, Kelly Williamson spoke about his new distillery called Adventure Distilling Company in Cosby, TN and announced the grand opening will be June 10th. He will have the Ryan Perry Band. It will be the Popcorn Sutton Jam Weekend Pre-Party kick-off event. The Adventure Distilling Company will be a great ride destination. The Summer Hillbilly Jam will be held July 22-24th. The event will have vendors, bands and of course, Moonshiners and Master Distillers, and a large car and bike show. They also have a Veterans Ride that ends at the festival grounds on Saturday. Rooms are booking fast, so make your reservations. Don’t miss out on the party of the year! Presented By:Throttle Company START SOMETHING LD THE PROPER CARE & FEEDING OF A VINTAGE MOTORCYCLE Vintage motorcycles are not for everybody. Those who believe they want one should think carefully before making the leap. They’re sort of like puppies in that way. Everybody wants one, but not everybody is prepared for the responsibility. Here are some helpful insights for the care of your “new”, old bike from the 60’s and 70’s. They can occasionally smell like gas and leave little puddles on the floor. (I told you they’re like puppies). Don’t be too concerned. A little leaking is pretty natural, sometimes it’s just enough to prove it’s authentic. Remember those gaskets or floats could be 50 years old. The point is, they can be a little messier than their new counterparts. Feed it right for proper health. When motorcycles from the 60s and 70s were engineered, gasoline was full of lead and contained no ethanol. Modern fuel eats the gaskets and gums up the carbs and fuel lines.Try and find some ethanol free gas, particularly when storing for the winter. For those in Columbus, check out the Circle K on Georgesville Rd. Use the right oil and lubricants. WD40 is not the solution for everything. Prepare to spend a little money. It’s an investment. New bikes often lose value as soon as they leave the dealership. Vintage bikes tend to increase in value when cared for. Unlike puppies, they’re not making any more. Care for your bike and it will reward you with better performance and increased value. The investment in a vintage bike can be as much or more than a new bike.

THUNDER ROADS® OHIO MAGAZINE
Vintage bikes want attention. New bikes can go weeks without having their buttons pushed and start no problem. Some vintage bikes work great when you turn them off, but a few weeks without attention can lead to issues. Regular use is often the best remedy for vintage machines. The bike needs you, probably more than you need it. If you love wrenching as a hobby or just like to be needed, vintage bikes usually need lots of love to keep them in good condition. Prepare to get a good mechanic or get some tools and learn it yourself, They can be cantankerous and have personalities. Some need to be choked, some like their carbs tickled, a little throttle here, no choke there, or some combination that only you and your bike may know. Learn your bikes idiosyncrasies for maximum efficiency. But some will have to be kicked, which is never an option with puppies. Winter is coming! Vintage bikes demand a little more attention. Sta-Bil gas treatment, draining the carbs, storing with ethanol-free gas, turning off the fuel, and trickle charging for the battery are all recommended. But do keep in mind, they’ve survived for many, many winters despite the neglect of previous owners.. If your bike is running after 50 years, it’s a survivor. Having learned all that, if this still sounds appealing, vintage bikes are available for placement in good homes and garages.

FUNNY STUFF BECAUSE EVERYONE NEEDS A GOOD LAUGH NOW AND THEN...
A Sunday school teacher was discussing the Ten Commandments with her five and six year olds. After explaining the commandment to "honor" thy Father and thy mother," she asked, "is there a commandment that teaches us how to treat our brothers and sisters?" Without missing a beat one little boy (the oldest of a family) answered, "Thou shalt not kill." A tour bus driver drives with a bus full of seniors down a highway, when he is tapped on his shoulder by a little old lady. She offers him a handful of peanuts, which he gratefully munches up. After approximately 15 minutes, she taps him on his shoulder again and she hands him another handful of peanuts. She repeats this gesture about eight times. At the ninth time he asks the little old lady why they do not eat the peanuts themselves, whereupon she replies that it is not possible because of their old teeth, they are not able to chew them. "Why do you buy them then?" he asks puzzled, whereupon the old lady answers, "We just love the chocolate around them.
A photographer for a national magazine was assigned to get photos of a great forest fire. Smoke at the scene was too thick to get any good shots, so he frantically called his home office to hire a plane. "It will be waiting for you at the airport!" he was assured by his editor. As soon as he got to the small, rural airport, sure enough, a plane was warming up near the runway. He jumped in with his equipment and yelled, "Let's go! Let's go!" The pilot swung the plane into the wind and soon they were in the air. "Fly over the north side of the fire," said the photographer, "and make three or four low level passes." "Why?" asked the pilot. "Because I'm going to take pictures! I'm a photographer, and photographers take pictures!" said the photographer with great exasperation. After a long pause the pilot said, "You mean you're not the instructor?" A wealthy farmer went to church one Sunday. After services he said to the priest, "Father, that was a damned good sermon you gave, damned good!" "I'm happy you liked it," said the priest. "But I wish you wouldn't use those terms in expressing yourself." "I can't help it," said the rich farmer. "I still think it was a damned good sermon. In fact, I liked it so much I put a fifty dollar bill in the collection basket." "The hell you did?!" replied the priest.

RECIPES
Love this classic 'Biker" recipe! It tastes so good and is so easy to do~
Drunk Butt Chicken 1 tbsp dried bay leaf, crushed 1 tbsp garlic, minced 1/2 cup brown sugar, packed tight 2 tsps fine sea salt 2 tbsps black pepper 4 tbsps paprika 2 tsps cayenne pepper 4 tbsps ketchup 3 tsps Frank's red hot sauce 4 tbsps beer (or soda) 4 tbsps white vinegar 1 (12 ounce) can beer (or soda) 1 (3 1/2-4 lb) whole chickens Wash chicken well inside an out and pat dry with paper towels. Mix the rub: paprika, salt, black pepper, cayenne pepper, and brown sugar in a small bowl and set it aside. In another bowl, mix glaze: brown sugar, ketchup, frank's red hot sauce, white vinegar, 4 tbsp beer (save remainder in can and set it aside) Pour beer can out (or drink it) until it is just a bit over half way full and then add crushed bay leaves and 1 tsp of rub to the half full can Loosen the skin on the breasts, legs and thighs of your chicken. Massage the rub into the meat under the skin and then all over the outside of the bird's skin as well as inside the cavity. Place beer can in the "butt" of the bird making the bird stand upright. Preheat grill with all burners on high until grill is heated and ready to cook. Cook over indirect heat, kind of off to the side so it wont burn Place the standing bird the grill, close lid After 30 minutes glaze the chicken and rotate it. Cook another hour rotating and glazing the chicken every 30 minutes Transfer chicken carefully off of beer can and onto cutting board.
This is an OLD family recipe my kids and hubby LOVE. It looks fancy but it is really easy to make! AND it can be made with just about any fish!
Crab and Shrimp Stuffed Fish Serve 4 (or 2 hungry bikers) 8 fish fillets, thawed (any white fish will do) ½ tsp paprika ¼ tsp dill 3 tbsp melted butter 1 tsp Old Bay seasoning salt and pepper to taste Stuffing 1 can salad shrimp 1 cup imitation crab, chopped (or 1 can lump crab meat) 1 cup seasoned breadcrumbs 1 clove garlic, minced ¼ celery, minced ¼ cup onion, minced 3 tbsp butter, melted ½ cup mayo 1 tbsp lemon juice 2 tbsp Pinch dill Salt and pepper to taste Mix together all filling ingredients, roughly divide into four parts In a foil lined cookie sheet, lay out 4 filets and lay one part of stuffing on each filet forming it to the shape of the filets, keeping it ¼ inch from the edge all the way around Place another filet on top of the stuffing, forming it to meet the bottom filet Brush fish with melted butter, old bay and dill on top of fish. Bake at 350 degrees for 12 minutes or until the fish flakes apart
Let rest 5-10 minutes and then carve and enjoy!

OHIO’S MOTORCYCLE MAG! TRO SCAVENGER HUNT
The TRO SCAVENGER HUNT is a special, indoor THUNDER RUN through the pages of our very own magazine. Hidden someplace within the depth of these pages is a special TRO PRIZE LOGO – see the sample here. It’s a version of our “wheel logo” with a treasure chest on it. It was inspired by Cole’s favorite TV show – Jake and the Neverland Pirates! When you find it, shoot us an email at BuckeyeThunderRun@ gmail.com with SCAVENGER HUNT in the subject line. Let us know what page and exactly where the logo is in this month’s magazine and we will put you in the drawing for some great TRO prizes – including some great gear and subscriptions to the magazine! How cool is that?! Scavenger Hunt Winner: Jeff Carr
