September already? That means Labor Day—the last big picnic or ride before school starts. Any bus with flashing RED lights means you MUST STOP (stricter law enforcement needed here, in my humble opinion). As a UAW member, Labor Day reminds us of the sacrifice that was made by union members of the past (I’m referring to the Flint sit-down strike of 1936-37, along with others) which helped get union members the benefits they have today. But it appears the unions have taken a back seat today. When workers demand $15.00 per hour and the industry gives in, the workers think they have won the fight until the boss comes out and says, “These new kiosks have replaced you, so we are letting you go.” Be careful what you ask for. Common sense—where has it gone? The left feels we should let our country be flooded with illegals; apparently, they don’t understand the meaning of the word illegal. It almost seems like they have become unionized. I am still proud to support and buy Made in America. On a lighter note, “Labor Day” can have a completely different meaning. Of course, I am talking about childbirth. For those of us who have witnessed—speaking to the men, of course—the miracle of childbirth (especially our own children) it is truly a “labor” of love. I would like to say to all the mothers who have kids, please enjoy this weekend. The pain you endured during your “Labor Day” is something us men will never understand, but we will love you for it the rest of our lives. So, for the two-wheeled cowboys and cowgirls, when you throw a leg over that steel horse and grab the reins (handlebars) on this Labor Day weekend, please remember a little common sense goes a long way. Look twice and don’t let someone else’s driving make you mad—that’s when stupid mistakes happen. This is the last printed issue for the year, but keep up with what’s happening at ThunderRoadsMichigan.com May the road rise to meet you and keep the shiny side up! As always, may God bless you and BE SAFE. Earl Lackie Candidate for the 5th Congressional District United States Congress earllackieforcongress.com
