TAILOR FASHION CENTER LIVE / WORK

Architecture Design Studio 4 Location : Lebuh Chulia, Penang, Malaysia

BRIEF The Studio 5 architectural design exercise calls on the exploration and evaluation of the students’ proposal. It is imperative that the design respond to the urban study on issues and inspirations. Design Development and Building Integration are two key stages here. Design Development could be free flowing and be from any of the three conceptual approaches namely, poetic, tectonic and scenographic approaches in architecture. However, it is to be noted that the suggested design approaches comply with the study content of the design proposal.

DESIGN RESPONSES

Set-back to create an open plaza

Urban view response to Komtar

Subtract lower floor to create shading effect

Void created to response the shophouses

Creates the various visual connection

Open spaces are provided in every floors

DESIGN STATEMENT The concept is inspired from the historical timeline, every moment of time will occur change and also remain something from the history, however these incidents happened will slightly forgot some important events in the historical timeline. Lebuh Chulia once was a cultural street, due to economical issue of, the youth were left from the street except the old people. The intengible culture are not able to be sustained due to lack of apperentice to undertaking it. Lack of tailor is part of the major factor from the history sub theme. In order to revitalise the intengible culture, the design should brings back the youth and interact with the experience or old tailor.

To provide accommodation to house and display relevent material and interpretive material for public access and information. CONCEPT Sekinchan fishing village is a tranquil place with its own memories which can be observed from its current condition. It had fascinated me to preserve them in the visitor interpretive center. The idea of the building is to bring nostalgia to the user by evoking their memories in fragments.

LEGEND 1 Entrance 2 Tunnel 3 Infinity Walkway 4 Inclined Ramp

The poen illustrates the journey towards success in life. It started with one’s childhood which is fully secured and eventually acquires freedom to explore the infinite possibilities in life as one grows older. In order to achieve success, one will have to overcome dark moments in life by being strong and faithful. This is because one will never know his life. If one success without going through the harshest moment of life, he or she will never understand the true meaning of success.
