Jokes The personnel office received an email requesting a listing of the department staff broken down by age and sex. The personnel office sent this reply... "Attached is a list of our staff. We currently have no one broken down by age or sex. However, we have a few alcoholics."

A woman was sitting at a bar enjoying an after work cocktail with her girlfriends when Steven, a tall, exceptionally handsome, extremely sexy, middle-aged man entered. He was so striking that the woman could not take her eyes off him.

All people have the right to stupidity, but some abuse the privilege This seasoned yet playful heartthrob noticed her overly attentive stare and walked directly toward her. (As any man would.) Before she could offer her apologies for staring so rudely, he leaned over and whispered to her, "I'll do anything, absolutely anything, that you want me to do, no matter what, for â‚Ź20.00.. on one condition..." Flabbergasted but intrigued, the woman asked what the condition was. The man replied, "You have to tell me what you want me to do in just three words." The woman considered his proposition for a moment, and then slowly removed â‚Ź20 note from her purse, which she pressed into the man's

hand along with her address. She looked deeply and passionately into his eyes, barely concealing her anticipation and excitement, and slowly and meaningfully said.... "Clean my house.

It's a sunny morning in the Big Forest and the Bear family is just waking up. Baby Bear goes downstairs and sits in his small chair at the table. He looks into his small bowl. It is empty! "Who's been eating my porridge?" he squeaks.

Daddy Bear arrives at the table and sits in his big chair. He looks into his big bowl. It is also empty! "Who's been eating my porridge?" he roars. Mommy Bear points her finger through the door from the kitchen and yells, "For Pete's sake, how many times do we have to go through this? It was Mommy Bear who got up first. It was Mommy Bear who woke everybody else in the house up. It was Mommy Bear who unloaded the dishwasher from last night and put everything away. It was Mommy Bear who went out in the cold early morning air to fetch the newspaper. It was Mommy Bear who set the table. It was Mommy Bear who put the cat out, cleaned the litter box and filled the cat's water and food dish. And now that you've decided to come downstairs and grace me with your presence ... listen good because I'm only going to say this one more time ... I haven't made the stupid porridge yet!!"

Recently, while I was on a shopping trip in a department store, I heard a little five-year-old talking to his mother on the down escalator. He said, 'Mommy, what do they do when the basement gets full of steps?

The teacher, during an English lesson, asked her students: "Now tell me, what do you call a person who keeps on talking when people are no longer interested?" Little Johnny, in the back row, raised his hand. "Yes, Johnny," said the teacher "A teacher!"

Christmas Greetings to all our Customers

The 12 Shopping Tips of Christmas (Continued) get them home. This may also spare you any trauma facing the Customer Service desk with a faulty item during the mania of post-Christmas sales! Also don't leave it until Christmas morning to discover you need batteries or additional accessories. 8. Safety first Look out for the CE marking when buying toys and electrical items. The mark shows that the item conforms to essential EU health and safety requirements. Always follow safety instructions and select ageappropriate children's toys. 9. Watch out for scams If you're offered toys or other gifts at a 'knock-down price', check if the items are authentic. You have no comeback if they are counterfeit, they may not conform to important safety standards and you are promoting an illegal practice. If an offer looks too good to be true, it probably is. 10. Credit cards Don't get snowed under by debt this Christmas. Remember the cost of credit if shopping on plastic and try to spend within the limits of what you can afford to repay. Check payment deadlines for "Interest Free, Buy now, Pay Later" offers and make sure you plan to pay within the allotted time, or else

interest penalties may start to pile up! 11. Watch out for added extras Always check what is and is not included in the basic price of an item. If expensive accessories are required, factor this into your purchase decision. Think carefully about your genuine requirements before agreeing to purchase extras such as extended warranties and don't feel pressurised by hard-sell tactics. Remember that your consumer rights cannot be denied once you have a genuine consumer complaint no matter what type of warranty you have. 12. Read the small print Know what you are signing up to, particularly in the case of contracts for membership or subscriptionbased services. Be aware that you are entering into a legal contract that may commit you to remaining a member for a minimum amount of time, for example one year, or may require you to observe minimum notice periods when you wish to terminate that contract. The Top Ten Reasons God Made Women

God knew that someday Adam would need someone to hand him the TV remote. (Parenthetically, it has been noted that men don't want to see what's ON TV; they want to see WHAT ELSE is on.) God knew that Adam would never make a doctor's appointment. God knew that when Adam's fig leaf wore out, he would never buy a new one for himself. God knew that Adam would not remember to take out the garbage.

God wanted man to be fruitful and multiply, but he knew Adam would never be able to handle labor pains and childbirth. As "keeper of the garden," Adam would need help in finding his tools.

Christmas Morning Beauty Tips Of course there will be pictures. So on Christmas morning, try these fun tips: 1. Christmas Eve, treat yourself to a long shower. RSA Top 10 Safety Tips for Driving in Snow and Ice The Road Safety Authority (RSA) has issued its ‘Top 10 Safety Tips’ for motorists driving in snow and ice. They are; 1. Get a grip. Remember your only contact with the road surface is your tyres so it’s vital that they are up to the task in icy and snowy conditions. Check tyres, including spare wheel, to ensure minimum tread depth of 1.6mm and that they are inflated to the correct tyre pressure. Lack of grip can occur even on treated roads so drive slowly in the highest gear possible, manoeuvre gently and avoid harsh braking. Replace tyres if necessary. 2. Make sure you can see. Clear your windows and mirrors before you set out, carry a screen scraper and de-icer. Do not use hot water on the windscreen as it can crack the glass. Replace windshield wiper blades if necessary. De-mist the inside of your windows thoroughly. Make sure your windshield washer system works and is full of an anti-icing fluid. Remember too that heavy snowfall will reduce visibility! Watch out for grit/salt spreaders and snow ploughs. The glare from the sun can be dazzling in the winter when the sun is low in the sky, so wear sunglasses in these conditions. 3. Check & use your lights. Use your dipped headlights so that others will see you. Make sure your headlights and taillights are all in working order, replace broken bulbs. Make sure lights are clear of snow. 4. Gently does it. Manoeuvre gently, slow down and leave extra distance between you and the vehicle in front. Too much steering is bad and avoid harsh braking and acceleration. Use the highest gear possible to avoid wheel spin. Select a low gear when travelling downhill especially if through bends. Falling snow, fog, rain, or hail will reduces visibility. Do not hang on to the tail lights of the vehicle in front of you as it can give a false sense of security. When you slow down, use your brakes so that the brake lights warn drivers behind you. 5. Watch out for "black ice." If the road looks polished or glossy it could be, "black ice” one of winters worst hazards: Black Ice is difficult to see! It is nearly transparent ice that often looks like a harmless puddle or is overlooked entirely. Watch out for black ice, especially in sheltered / shaded areas on roads, under trees and adjacent to high walls. 6. Give yourself a brake. If you get into a skid, you need to know if your vehicle has ABS (Anti- Lock Braking Systems). After you "Step" on the brake the ABS begins cycling — you will feel pulses in the pedal or hear the system working. It's easy to properly use antilock brakes: Remember - Step, Stay and Steer. Step on the pedal. Stay on the pedal. Steer around the obstacle. (A warning: A little bit of steering goes a very long way in an emergency).

For vehicles without ABS, you'll have to rely on the old-fashioned ‘Cadence Braking’ system: Push the brake pedal until the wheels stop rolling, then immediately release the brake enough to allow the wheels to begin turning again. Repeat this sequence rapidly. Your goal is to have the tyres producing maximum grip regardless of whether the surface is snow or ice. 7. How does your vehicle help? Check in your owner’s manual and find out if your vehicle has any safety assist technology like Electronic Stability Control (ESC) or Anti Lock Braking System (ABS) and know how they assist your driving in severe weather conditions. But remember technology offers no miracles. Don't let these lull you into overestimating the available traction. 8. Be Prepared! In prolonged icy or snowy driving conditions it is advisable to carry the following in the boot of the car a. High Visibility Vest b. Tow rope c. Spare bulbs d. Spare fuel e. A shovel f. Appropriate footwear in case you have to leave your vehicle ie boots g. A hazard warning triangle h. Spare wheel (with tyre at correct pressure and tread) i. De-icing equipment (Both for glass and door locks) j. First aid kit (in good order) k. A fire extinguisher (fully operative) l. A working torch m. A car blanket, additional clothing & some food and water In preparation for driving you should also ensure:

Ensure vehicle has adequate supply of fuel for journey. q. Consider carrying some salt or sand. And r. Give someone an estimated time of arrival at your proposed destination. ‘A Stroll Down The Old Boreen’ A photgraphic memory on DVD launc night A great night was had by all at the launch of 'A Stroll Down The Old Boreen' DVD. It was held in Carrs Pub, Kilcommon Village on the 8th Oct. This project was the brain child of Eileen Power Quinlan, a Thurles lady now living in Kilcommon. Eileen gave 50% from the proceeds of the DVD to North Tipperary Hospice and 50% of the proceeds to Parish Funds (Kilcommon, Rearcross & Hollyford). Also on the night there were tickets sold separately with the proceeds split between animal shelters, Cottage Rescue and Tipperary Friends of Animals, as Eileen has a great love for animals. The DVD is a photgraphy view of rural life and it's people. Eileen has seen many changes in rural life down through the years, and sadly the decline of the landscape and the loss of many of it's people. So for her to be able to capture the heart of rural life on DVD and give something back was a joy. With her great interest in rural life, it's people and it's history, there could be more treasures to come....

Eilenn would like to thank everyone who let her take their photo and for welcoming her into their homes (and the lovely cups of tea). A special thanks to the many families who let her keep photos of their loved ones on the DVD, who are no longer with us (RIP). She has dedicated this DVD to her late mother Breda Power (RIP) Thurles and her late Father in Law Tommy Quinlan (RIP). "You could travel the World a million times over and never meet two kinder souls". Eileen would like to thank the following who came to the launch of her DVD 'A Stroll Down The Old Boreen': John Keenehan, Lord Mayor of Thurles, Michael Lowry TD, Billy Clancy Cllr, Maria McGrath, North Tipperary Hospice, Fr Dan Woods, PP Kilcommon, Fr James O Donoghue, Hollyford, Michael Smith former TD, Willie Kennedy former Cllr, and thanks to all who came from near and far on the night and for making this DVD such a success. A special thanks to the people of Kilcommon, Rearcross, Hollyford and surrounding villages. EcoHair, located near the Post Office in Nenagh, is an unusual addition to the town. Stitchrite, Tipperary Town Opening nights for New Premises

Expanding from ladies & gents clothing alterations into garment printing, embroidery service & now stockists of the Greenhouse clothing range from Denmark with Margaret Kingston . All enquiries welcome.

United Nations Veteran; Paddy Cullen, the Quarry, Mitchel street, Thurles, was afforded a céad míle fáilte at the Aras by President Mary McAleese on Monday November 8th on the 50th Anniversary of the Niemba Ambush.

Winter Birds - The Robin The Robin (Spideog in Irish), is probably the favourite of all the winter birds. The male and the female have similar plumage with the orange breast while the babies are a spotted brown and white with patches of orange gradually appearing. Robins live to about 1.1 years generally but have been known to survive up to 12 years. They rear 2-3 broods each season and the chicks are fed by both parents. They have a fluting warbling song in the breeding season and often sing into the evening and night leading them to be confused with the Nightingale. The Robin is the only Irish bird that sings continually throughout the winter. Male Robins are noted for their highly aggressive territorial behaviour. They will attack other males that stray into their territories, and have been observed attacking other small birds without apparent provocation. Such attacks sometimes lead to fatalities, accounting for up to 10% of adult Robin deaths in some areas.

An old folk tale seeks to explain the Robin's distinctive breast. Legend has it that when Jesus was dying on the cross, the Robin, then simply brown in colour, flew to his side and sang into his ear in order to comfort him in his pain. The blood from his wounds stained the Robin's breast, and thereafter all Robins got the mark of Christ's blood upon them. Robins first appeared on Christmas cards in the 1860's and the postmen delivering them in their red coats became known as Robins. It was believed that to harm a robin or it's eggs resulted in crooked fingers and a robin entering a house was a sign of forthcoming death while in the southeast of Ireland, a robin entering a house meant impending frost. Robins are one of the friendliest birds and can be encourage to feed from the hand. It is believed that there are about 4 million robins in Ireland and they eat worms, seeds, fruits and insects.

Paddy was overwhelmed by the welcome given to him by our President where she welcomed each member of the visiting party individually and posed for many photographs. Paddy described the President as the perfect Host, he said “Mrs McAleese is the most pleasant, welcoming and accommodating lady I have had the pleasure and privilege to shake hands with. She could not have been more facilitating to me or my comrades on this, also, the 50th Anniversary of the Irish involvement in UN Peace Keeping Missions. Mrs McAleese remained with our party late into the evening, having afforded us all the time in the world. She recalled stories from her youth in Ardoyne, Belfast, where she was the eldest of nine children. Her family was forced to leave the area when the Troubles broke out, she informed us.”

“As a native of the Quarry, in Thurles, I am delighted and indeed honoured to have been invited by President McAleese on this very special occasion. I am fortunate to be back here in the Capital 50 years on, having flown to the Congo from Casement Aerodrome in the Summer of 1960. My near neighbour from Limekiln Lane, Martin Moynihan, also served overseas during that four year, Congo Mission.” The President had a special word for the two Swedish interpreters, also present, who came to the aid of Tom Kenny, one of the survivors of Niemba all those years ago. “Corporal Hamilton, whose dad served alongside me in the Congo, gave us a grand tour of the Aras which was built in 1751”. When asked if he was looking forward to the 100 Anniversary of the Irish Defence Forces involvement in UN Peace Keeping Missions. A sprightly Paddy replied only - with a wry smile.

Nenagh Arts Centre Outspoken Priest looks at future of Catholic Church in Ireland Well known Redemptorist priest Fr. Tony Flannery comes to Nenagh Arts Centre on Wednesday evening, 8th of December at 8 p.m. to speak as part of the Arts Centre’s ongoing Town Hall meetings. Flannery, who writes a monthly column for the Redemptorist Magazine ‘Reality’ is in Nenagh to discuss the difficulties facing the church at this time and to suggest ways forward for clergy and laity alike. While much criticism has been leveled at bishops and the higher echelons of the clergy, Flannery along with others, is one of the chief proponents of the Association of Catholic Priests which hopes to “provide a voice for Irish Catholic Priests at a time when that voice is largely silent and needs to be expressed.”

The Association also notes other aims of allowing an opportunity for priests “to engage proactively with the crucial debates” in Irish society and seek “full implementation of the vision and teaching of the Second Vatican Council”. It would also seek “a redesigning of ministry in the church” so as to involve “the entire faith community”, and a restructuring of governance in the church, encouraging service rather than power and a culture of transparency “particularly in the appointment of church leaders”. These meetings have been attended in significant numbers by priests from across the country. Town Hall Meetings are free and those attending can ask the speaker questions following his initial presentation. More details on this and other Arts Centre events on www.nenagharts.com

Mayor congratulates winners in C.A.V.A Community and Voluntary Awards As Mayor of Nenagh I would like to congratulate the winners and participants of the C.A.V.A Community and Voluntary Awards which were held in the wonderful Borrisoleigh community hall last Friday night 19th Nov. I was delighted to be one of the sponsors of the event and will continue to support it for the coming years. You would think at the moment with all the doom and gloom in the media that there wasn’t anything worthwhile going on. Friday night’s event was a wonderful festival of volunteerism in a hall that owed its existence to our wonderful community spirit in Tipperary. On the way to the event on Friday night I passed the lights of Nenagh A.f.c Brickfields and Nenagh Ormond Rugby where children were taking part in activities which wouldn’t be available to those children if it wasn’t for the voluntary sector giving up their free time. We had a strong voluntary sector before the recession and we will have a strong voluntary sector after the recession.

The award winners were 1/ Environment Borrisokane Town Park Committee 2/ Arts Culture and Developmet Lorrha Development Association 3/ Youth and Sports Nenagh Canoe Club 4/ Economic Sliabh Feilim Community and Voluntary Co Op Rearcross 5/ Social Inclusion Aras Fóileann Nenagh 6/ Community Empowerment Cabra Wetlands Thurles and the overall winner was Lorrha Development association. Letters to the Editor The final act of treachery by our sovereign Government Yesterday the Irish Government handed over what was left of our Sovereignty to Europe and turned us into subjects of the European Union. This wasn’t an act that was planned in one day but it was started in 2003 when the Irish Government decided to hand over our economic independence by joining the Euro. Sinn Fein were the only political party that pleaded against this at the time but Fianna Fail Fine Gael and Labour walked us into the doomsday scenario that we now face. There will be those that tell us that we did well in Europe but I will guarantee that the hundreds of billions that we now owe to European Bondholders( foreign banks total exposure to Ireland is 524.4 BILLION EUROS) far out weighs the financial gain from Europe. We will be told that we had no choice but the fact is that Ireland had the European caught by the you know what’s and we had a real chance of getting a once in a lifetime deal from the Europeans to help them save the European project. We ended up with a loan at 5.8% imposed on us by Europe and we were also made clear out our pension reserves which were supposed to guarantee the our future generations in their old age ( not to be drawn down until 2025) and of course the real cost of yesterday was what was left of our sovereignty. All of this bye the way is not for the benefit of the health services, crumbling public services devastated businesses or financially stricken families but it is all done to ensure

that the bondholders are not burned by our corrupted banking system. This is being forced on us by the European Political Elite so keen to rescue a Project that has failed. This European Project that was rammed down our throats in Nice 1 and Nice 2 Lisbon 1 and Lisbon 2 where our own political elite Fainna Fail Fine Gael Labour and the Lowryites refused to listen to the people forcing us to hand over more power to Europe by ignoring the will of the Irish People in the initial votes. It is interesting to see that three of the countries that have rowed in to help us out recently were Denmark Sweden and the Uk who kept their financial independence by staying out of the Euro. What can we do about this first of all I feel that what happened yesterday is constituently illegal and I will be investigating that with a view to challenging the decision but you can certainly do something about it soon by getting rid of the political elite that have served us so badly in those European polls. When we have cast the political elite from office we then have to bar any of the Architects of this disaster from ever holding public office again and investigate their crimes against the people of Ireland and if they are proven guilty they should lose their fat pensions and live on the state pension like everyone else. Yours sincerely Cllr. Séamie Morris 29/11/10

Oxfam Ireland appeal to people of Tipperary This November and December, Oxfam Ireland is urging locals to choose their Christmas presents from its alternative gifts catalogue Unwrapped.

Zimbabwe will have a new best friend producing top quality organic fertiliser!

The Emergency kit for a family is one of the Unwrapped range of gift The Oxfam Ireland Unwrapped ideas available exclusively online in catalogue is chock full of inspiring 2010. The pack is given to families gift ideas so you can avoid the to help them in the aftermath of mistake of buying someone a dull or emergencies such as the Haiti uninspiring Christmas present. earthquake of January 2010. The kits help to maintain animals for people living in hygiene, in order to prevent the developing countries throughout outbreak of disease and also Eastern and Southern Africa. preserve a person’s dignity in times of adversity. The Oxfam Unwrapped gift goes to a family or a community in the countries that Oxfam Ireland works and who need it most. So when you choose an Oxfam Unwrapped gift you make a real difference to people’s lives and when you buy your Unwrapped gift the purchaser receives a gift card, which they can send to friends or family.

If you cannot decide which life changing gift idea would best suit the person you are buying the gift for, then why not consider the all new Unwrapped Gift voucher? You choose the amount and the money is used wherever it is most needed by Oxfam Ireland.

According to Oxfam Head of Fundraising Peter Anderson, “In previous years, Tipperary’s support for Unwrapped has been terrific. Last year Co Tipperary raised over €6,000 towards Unwrapped. If that figure can be matched again it would help hundreds of families in Africa. It’s not every day your shopping list includes an entire fruit and vegetable garden or teacher training, it might well feature a turkey but not one whose job is to be a life changer. We know times are hard at the moment but we hope the Tipperary community will continue to buy Christmas gifts like these to help put an end to global poverty.”

When the Gavinara family from Malawi received a Goat gift from Oxfam Unwrapped, it put in motion the life-changing chain of events that Unwrapped gifts create. According to Nora Gavinara, “We received our goat four years ago. Since then it’s had nine kids. We have sold five and still have four plus one large female. The first kid we sold paid for our children to go to secondary school. We used the goat manure as fertiliser on our crops and vegetables, and it made a real difference. We harvested at least 25 bags of maize. We kept 20 for food and sold the rest. We also grow tomatoes, green beans and pumpkins in the garden and if we ever need a little extra, we know we can sell a goat.”

Surely it comes from childhood, and particularly from an abusive childhood?

The abuser may be a victim and certainly feels like a victim, and sometimes carries out the abuse as a way of retribution or revenge. Sometime they portray themselves as victims, and load their partners with guilt. Abusers feel that they are entitled to inflict pain on others. Indeed they may not even see that they are doing so.
