Jokes The shop assistant told me, "That's €8.75" after ringing up my purchase. As I fumbled through my wallet, she noticed a remote control for a television set in my purse. "Do you always carry your TV remote?" she asked. "No," I replied. "But my husband refused to come shopping with me, so I figured this was the most evil thing I could do to him!"

ing her out since he sat down, but lacks the nerve to talk with her. Suddenly she sneezes, and her glass eye comes flying out of its socket toward the man. He reflexively reaches out, grabs it out of the air, and hands it back. 'Oh my, I am so sorry,' the woman says as she pops her eye back in place... 'Let me buy your dinner to make it up to you,' she says. They enjoy a wonderful dinner together, and afterwards they go to the theatre followed by drinks. They talk, they laugh, she shares her deepest dreams and he shares his.. She listens. After paying for everything, she asks him if he would like to come to her place for a nightcap and stay for breakfast. They had a wonderful, wonderful time. The next morning, she cooks a gourmet meal with all the trimmings. The guy is amazed. Everything had been SO incredible! 'You know,' he said, 'you are the perfect woman. Are you this nice to every guy you meet?' 'No,' she replies. . . 'You just happened to catch my eye.'
The wife caught me cheating yesterday. It was a stupid and careless mistake. She says she will never play Monopoly with me again.
A delivery man breaks down on the M7, so he flags down Paddy. “I’ve got 6 monkeys in the back. I’ll give you a €100 if you take them to Dublin Zoo for me” Paddy agrees. Two hours later, the delivery man sees Paddy driving the opposite way with the monkeys. He flags them down and said to Paddy, “I told you to take them to the zoo”. “I did” said Paddy, “but I have €30 left, so now I am taking them to th e pictures now.”
"Congratulations my boy!" said the groom's uncle. "I'm sure you'll look back and remember today as the happiest day of your life." "But I'm not getting married until tomorrow," protested his nephew. "I know," replied the uncle. "That's exactly what I mean."

Kitchens by Andy Spillane
Savvy Kitchens, O’Donovan Rossa Steet, Thurles, Co. Tipperary, Ireland T 0504-90515 F 0504-90515 info@savvykitchens.ie
Thinking of ripping out your kitchen? Most kitchens last somewhere between 10-15 years, depending on the wear and tear you have given it. So if your kitchen is on its last legs and you’re thinking what will you do with the space you have, here is some advice on kitchen layout from Andy at Savvy Kitchens in Thurles; • Start off by looking at your kitchen space because the type of kitchen layout you choose will depend on the amount of space you have. If you're ripping out existing units, you don't have to stick to the previous layout. But if it's a small space, you may be stuck with making the most of what you've got. • Think about what you do in your kitchen and work these zones in your plan. Food preparation, cooking, serving and washing-up are the four main jobs a kitchen needs to do. Make sure each zone has enough worktop space, storage and all the necessary appliances nearby. Have a think about what else you do/would
like to do in your kitchen? Do you want a place to sit down? A place for the kids to do their homework? A spot for the dog? • Think about how you cook, eat and shop as well as what you like and don't like about your current kitchen. Get together with everyone in your family and ask for their input - even the kids. • Think about the 'work triangle' which dictates the sink, cooker and fridge should form the corners of a triangle in relation to each other. Sinks traditionally live under the window only because access to the plumbing is easier. • Look through magazines and the Internet and start picking pictures of kitchen styles and products that you like. This is your chance to dream! • Start visiting kitchen showrooms in the area for ideas to inspire you. For further information please call Andy on (086) 8098121 or e-mail info@savvykitchens.ie

Tipperary GAA Scene By Ger Ryan County PRO ALLIANZ HURLING LEAGUE Tipperary will play their final group game in this year’s Allianz hurling league against Wexford on Sunday next, April 17 at 2.30pm at Semple Stadium. The game will be preceded by a camogie game at 12.45pm. Only the new stand (Ardan O Fiain) will be open. Tipperary need to beat Wexford and hope Dublin and Galway lose to qualify for the League final on Sunday May 1. It will be the 40th meeting of Tipperary and Wexford in the League. Wexford have 20 wins, Tipeprary 17 and there were 2 draws. Their last meeting in the League took place at Semple Stadium on March 13, 2005 and Wexford won by 2-19 to 2-15. Current Wexford manager, Colm Bonnar, was a Tipperary selector on that occasion and only 3 of the current Tipperary panel played – Paul Curran and Benny Dunne started while Eoin Kelly came on as a sub. In Tipperary’s 6 games so far in this year’s League, 6 players have played a part in all 6 games. They are Pa Bourke, Michael Cahill, Benny Dunne, Patrick Maher, Gearoid Ryan and David Young. Pa Bourke is the only player to have played the full 70 minutes in all 6 games. He is also the team’s top scorer in the league with 036 to his credit. He is followed in the scoring stakes by Shane Bourke (3-7), Noel McGrath (0-12), Gearoid Ryan (2-5) and Benny Dunne (1-7). ALLIANZ FOOTBALL LEAGUE After some scares along the way, Tipperary’s senior footballers have survived in Division 3 of the Allianz Football League despite losing by 0-16 to 0-13 against Cavan at Breffni Park on Sunday last. Although Tipperary were level on points with Limerick, it is Limerick that are relegated to Division 4 for next season because Tipperary defeated them in the first round of the league in February. Tipperary’s next competitive game is in the Munster Senior Football championship against Kerry at Fitzgerald Stadium on Sunday May 22. TOMMY FLEMING IN CONCERT AT PARK HOTEL We remind supporters that renowned entertainer, Tommy Fleming, is live in concert at the Park Hotel Clonmel on Saturday May 7 2011 at 8pm. All proceeds from the concert will go towards the preparation of Tipperary County teams for this year’s hurling and football championships. Tickets cost €30 and are available from the Park Hotel (052-6188700) or the GAA Office Thurles (0504 22702). Seats are strictly limited so early booking is essential. Tommy Fleming is one of Ireland’s most popular entertainers so don’t miss this great opportunity to see him live and to support our hurlers and footballers for the season ahead. APRIL MEETING OF COUNTY BOARD The next meeting of Tipperary County Board will take place on Tuesday April
19 at 8pm in the Sarsfields Social Centre, Thurles. All club delegates are asked to attend. EMAIL ADDRESSES FOR CLUB CHAIRPERSONS AND PROS All clubs have been supplied with GAA email addresses for their Chairpersons and PROs. These are in the format chairperson.clubname.tipperary@gaa.ie and pro.clubname.tipperary@gaa.ie. We urge all clubs to ensure their Chairperson and PRO logs into these addresses by April 24 at the latest. Otherwise they will be deleted. The new addresses will make it much easier to communicate with club chairpersons and PROs and all holders of these positions are asked to log in to their new email addresses as soon as possible. Using the new addresses should ensure that these club officers will get information from Divisional, County, Provincial and National Boards and Councils more reliably and faster. FRIENDS OF TIPPERARY FOOTBALL AGM The AGM of the Friends of Tipperay Football was held in Thurles on Monday April 4. Among the large attendance were Barry O'Brien County Board Chairman; Sean Nugent, Vice Chairman; Tim Floyd, Secretary; Eamonn Buckley, Treasurer; Noel Morris, Football Board Chairman; and John Costigan, Central Council Delegate. Friends' Chairman Joe Hannigan and several other speakers paid tribute to outgoing Secretary Seamus McCarthy for his unequalled service to Tipperary football as a player and manager for many years and for his service to the Friends since its foundation 20 years ago. The Chairman said that it had been an excellent year for Tipperary Football, with the highlights being the win over Kerry in the Munster Under 21 Final in Tralee, the Senior team's Championship match against Dublin in Croke Park and the successes at under age level. He thanked everyone involved in making the Membership Draw such an outstanding success, particularly the Sponsor, all advertisers in the Tipperary GAA Calendar and everyone who bought and sold membership tickets. Total membership of the Friends is now almost 2,500. Officers elected for the coming year were Patron - Dr. Dermot Clifford, Archbishop of Cahel and Emly; President - Connie Ryan (Drom-Inch); Chairman - Joe Hannigan (Shannon Rovers); Secretary - Eddie Lonergan (Cahir); Treasurer Eamonn Buckley (Lattin-Cullen); Asst. Treasurer - Michael Power (Newcastle); PRO - John Costigan (Cahir); Representatives to Football Board - Liam Barrett, Eddie Ryan. tember. Developed in partnership with Setanta College, this innovative new degree is built around two pillars: Coaching and Conditioning, and Business and Technology. This combination of disciplines gives the programme a unique position among the sports programmes currently offered in Higher Education in Ireland and will give graduates a mixture of the technical, social and management skills required to pursue careers as top class coaches and administrators. It will be possible to apply for the course via the CAO. More details are available from Tipperary Institute and will be available here as soon as publicly announced. FINAL SCORE RESULTS PROGRAMME ON TIPP FM The Final Score results programme will return to Tipp FM after the 9pm News on Sunday next April 24th. We look forward to welcoming our usual listenership and perhaps some new listeners as well. Thanks all to the secretaries of the Divisional Boards and the Secretary of the County Competitions Committee, Tom Maher, without whose help collating results, the Final Score would not be possible. UNDER 21 HURLING CAPTAIN The Tipperary under 21 management team, Ken Hogan, TJ Connolly and William Maher have nominated Noel McGrath (Loughmore Castleiney) to captain the Tipperary under 21 hurling team for 2011. Congratulations to Noel on this well deserved honour and we wish him, his team mates and the management team well for the season ahead. EMPLOYMENT FOR GAA PLAYERS It is well known at this stage that like all sectors of society, GAA players are finding it difficult to get and keep jobs during these tough economic times. Three of the Tipperary senior hurling panel, Larry Corbett, Conor O’Mahony and Padraic Maher highlighted the plight of players who cannot find work in a very honest and impressive way on last Friday’s Late Late Show. Tipperary County Board would urge all GAA supporters in the county who may be in a position to offer employment to give
serious consideration to employing GAA players who are out of work. The GAA plays a major role in our community and the retention of players who might otherwise emigrate is not alone important to the GAA but to the wider community. The County Board is establishing a committee, which will be chaired by former President of the Camogie Association and former County PRO, Liz Howard, to examine ways of finding sustainable jobs for players on Tipperary inter-county teams. This is not an easy challenge to take on but we believe that, with support from Tipperary people in business locally and nationally, this new committee will have a positive impact. CROKE PARK MUSEUM TOURS A visit to Croke Park is the perfect place to take your younger members for a weekend Club outing. They will experience the magic of a match day and follow in the footsteps of GAA legends on the Croke Park Stadium tour. A typical visit to Croke Park takes two hours and includes an exciting behind-the-scenes guided tour of the stadium, a short film, a chance to explore the GAA Museum's exhibits and a visit to the Museum’s interactive games area where visitors can test their Hurling and Gaelic Football skills. There is a recession busting 25% off special rate for all GAA Club groups (minimum of 20) who visit before April 30, 2011. For further information on pricing and visiting the GAA Museum please visit www.crokepark.ie/gaa-museum. To make a booking, call 018192374 or email tours@crokepark.ie. TIPPERARY GAA SCENE Information concerning all areas in the GAA will appear in this section in the future. If you wish to include any item of interest in future articles, please contact the County Public Relations Officer Ger Ryan at 086-8149146 or via e-mail at pro.tipperary@gaa.ie on or before 3:00pm on Monday. The Moyne, Moycarkey, Slieveardagh Track & Field Challenge took place on Sunday 10th April. The Club had a fantastic turnout of around 50 athletes from age 3 to 15 years who enjoyed a great afternoon of fun & athletics beneath a Summer sky. The Club finished in 2nd place with Moyne in 1st place & Slieveardagh in 3rd place. Our thanks to Moyne A.C. who hosted the event & provided a very well run competition with top class refreshments by the Moyne ladies afterwards. Our thanks also to our fellow athletes from Slieveardagh A.C. & Moyne A.C. for providing some great competition on the day. For Club photos of the event, please see our Photo Gallery at www.moycarkeycoolcrooac.com. The Club will host the County Senior Road Championships at 12 noon this Sunday 17th April in Two Mile Borris. Your support would be appreciated around the course which will run
from Two Mile Borris village via Coolcroo, Old Dublin Road, Turnpike & back to the village again. The races on the day are a 10km race for the Senior Men & a 5km race for the Senior Women. Good luck to all our athletes who will be taking part on the day. A Church Gate Collection for Moycarkey Borris Community Games will be held this weekend on Saturday 16th & Sunday 17th April at all masses at the 3 parish churches. Your support would be gratefully appreciated. Training for the Outdoor Season continues every Monday evening from 7.45pm to 8.45pm & every Thursday evening from 7.30pm to 8.30pm in Templemore Track. Cost is €2.00 per athlete. New members & help are always welcome. Paul Kenny, Senior Energy Consultant with the Tipperary Energy Agency has upgraded his 4 bed Semidetatched over the last year, installing upgraded attic and wall insulation, heating controls and a high efficiency boiler, low energy lights, a high efficiency wood burning stove and finally Solar panel's supplied by Solaregy. All of the items have been grant aided by the soon to Finish SERVE project (Administered by North Tipperary County Council), and the Sustainable Energy Authority of Irelands Home energy saving scheme and greener homes scheme. Paul Says “over the last two years I have invested about €4000 after grant aid to save about €1000 per annum, Show me a bank that will give 25% return on your money!” The house was much warmer all through the winter, especially in the cold spell, and the heating

First Time Buyer - Mortgage Guide Buying your first home is very exciting but as a first time buyer, finding the right mortgage can be very daunting. How much can I borrow? How do I get a mortgage? What type of mortgage should I choose? Can someone explain all this mortgage jargon etc. etc. In this article I will try to show you that it is perhaps not as impossible as you might think and with the right advice and guidance from your mortgage broker/adviser you'll be moving in, in no time! What is a mortgage? First things first, what is a mortgage? Essentially it is a loan, paid back over a number of years (the term), with interest added. A mortgage is a serious long-term commitment, so it is vital that you understand the small print before you commit yourself. Mortgage Types: - Variable - mortgage rate follows changes in the European Central Bank rate. - Tracker - form of variable mortgage. The rate is set a certain percentage above or below the ECB rate, fluctuat-
ing with any changes. - Discounted Rate - form of variable rate mortgage but the rate is discounted or lower than the lender's standard variable rate for a promotional period. - Fixed - mortgage rate remains the same for an agreed period.
By Eamonn Walsh QFA Some other mortgage / new home costs to think about It's not only being able to raise the funds for the mortgage that you need to consider! There are another few costs that you will need to budget for:
Ways to Repay your Mortgage - Interest Only - mortgage repayments consist only of the interest due on the mortgage balance. The full mortgage is still outstanding at the end of the term. - Repayment - mortgage repayments consist of capital amount owed and interest on the balance. At the end of the term the entire debt should be repaid. - Part repayment / part interest only mortgage repayments consist of interest due and part of the capital owed. Differs from repayment mortgage as you decide the proportion of capital you repay. - Guarantors - Guarantors are used when Banks/Lending Institutions wish to take out additional security when somebody doesn’t qualify for the amount of money the need to borrow and their parents or somebody related goes guarantor for them.

- Deposit - when it comes to saving for a deposit, it is generally the case that the bigger your deposit, the more competitive mortgage deals you will have available to you. Depending on mortgage market conditions you could require anything from 5% of the purchase price upwards, so get saving! - Mortgage Protection - it is important that you take out insurance to cover your mortgage payments if you die. It is also possible to get mortgage protection for critical illness and long term illness. - House&Contents Insurance -Lenders will require this cover to be in place before drawing down your loan. - Stamp Duty - government tax (usually exempt for FTB) - Valuation Fees - the mortgage lender requires a valuation of the property you are buying to ensure it is worth at least the amount you hope to borrow.
Typical fee €150 - Legal Fees - these are the fees charged by your solicitor to cover your mortgage application costs like land registry searches and conveyance. These fees can be around 1% but again can vary depending on the solicitor. - Moving In Costs - don't forget about the money you will need when you're ready to move! Van hire, furniture, appliances, flooring, decoration, etc - Getting Financial Advice As the Financial Regulator (www.itsyourmoney.ie) says mortgages can be complicated. Charges vary and products have different levels of risk, reward and terms. This can make it difficult to compare various products and find the one that is right for you. If you are confused by what is on offer, it's best to seek independent financial advice from someone who is authorised by us." Hopefully this article is of some help to you and in the meantime I wish you the very best in your first purchase. Eamonn Walsh Mortgages and Investments Ltd is regulated by the Financial Regulator as an Authorised Advisor and as a Mortgage and Investment Broker. Phone Eamonn 086-0471147 Email info@ewalsh.ie

Counselling Depression By Jim O’Shea So how does one build self-esteem? If someone comes to me and says they want to get self-esteem, I cannot give them a kilogram of it! I believe that the seeds of can at least be sprouted from the trust one places in a stranger (therapist/counsellor) with previously unspoken details of one’s life, some shameful, perhaps. It is a mysterious process, and no one can explain it. But it happens. Perhaps it’s because the person does not feel judged, and feels encouraged to tell more and more of their life story, and experiences the understanding of a counsellor. This can shift a burden of self-blame, perhaps, and make a person see that it is not their fault that they are as they are. This can sow the seeds of self-worth. Hundreds of studies have been carried out to test the question of whether depressed people think more negatively than nondepressed people. But the results of most show that negative thinking is part of depression. Recent studies, however, also show that cognitive vulnerability (the habit of how a person normally thinks in a negative way) can predict the onset of depression. So the habit of negative thinking can be one of the symptoms of depression and a predictor that depression may be likely to happen to those who think in a negative way. Apart from how some people have a consistently negative way of thinking, they also behave in a particular way. The apathy that depressed people suffer from may make them withdraw from social interaction, and in some severe cases the sufferer may remain in bed for long periods. They become paralysed and are imprisoned in their world of gloom and despondency. When active, they may behave and move in a slow ponderous way, walking slowly, talking slowly, and appearing as if they are weighed down with drooping eyes, and lack of animation in their expression. They may shun eye contact and speak slowly in a monotone voice. These symptoms are related to what is called ‘pure’ depression. On the other hand, some depressed individuals may display agitation in the form of restlessness, hand movements, fidgeting and gesturing. This is more likely in people who are also suffering from anxiety. Writers and researchers of depression also refer to physical functioning symptoms, which are mainly changes in appetite, sleep, and energy, and can be quite complex in relation to depression. People who are depressed often complain of listlessness, lethargy, feeling heavy, and lacking stamina to carry out normal tasks. Sleep disturbance may be a shortened duration of sleep, or poorer quality of sleep. They may wake a few
hours earlier than their usual time and have difficulty falling back asleep. Unfortunately, research has shown that impaired sleep may be a signal for further relapse. It should be pointed out, however, that these symptoms are not always signs of depression, but may be caused by such simple things as worry, eating too late in the evening, eating too much, or drinking too much and awakening to go to the toilet. As I wrote earlier, depression is a very complex complaint and some depressed individuals may experience increased sleep, and may have an increase in their appetite. This combination has been labelled atypical depression. Frequently, however, depressed people experience a decrease in their appetite, and suffer a loss in weight. We have to be careful, however, to recognise that some conditions seem to mimic depressive disorders. These include infection, endocrine complaints (glands that pour secretions into the blood), tumour, and neurologic disorder (nervous system) in this context. There are also more hidden and highly dangerous forms of physical depression symptoms when depression is comorbid (co-exists) with anxiety. These include increased blood pressure, increased risk of blood clotting, elevated insulin and cholesterol levels. Depression and anxiety can also result in chronic elevated levels of stress hormones such as cortisol and adrenaline. It is really important to learn how to lessen anxiety, and I hope to deal with anxiety in another series of articles.
