Manar Al Ani was born in Baghdad from a family of teachers that educated their son to the beauty of arts and culture. The two professors raise Manar in the cradle of Indo-European history, in the city of the One Thousand and One Nights, in Mesopotamia between the Tigris and the Euphrates. This abundance of Art and Poetry forms his artistic and histrionic character and he finds this wealth again in Rome, where he arrives at the age of 19, after fleeing from Saddam Hussein’s regime looking for freedom and democracy. In the 80’s Navona Square is a breeding ground of artists, many of which are Iraqi, and it is here that Manar begins his road, making the best of his talent and his artistic spirit. He designs a collection of luxury watches that will enter the homes of many collectionists and begins his road of serial Art. From this moment on, after meeting many young artists from the Academy of Arts, he has an inclination for designing and realizing hand made Works of Art in limited copies, similar but never the same. Thus Babilonia Arte is born, 5 art galleries in northern Italy that produced and sold the serial Art designed by Manar. In the beginning of the 90’s Manar falls in love with the technique of the fresco and the fresco tear, an ancient method for recovering and restoring frescoes. The second phase of Babilonia Arte begins, and the first preview of frescoes starts in Borken, thanks to the help of the friend and art dealer Gerda Sibelt: it is an enormous success, almost everything is sold out within the first day. Thus Manar began to study original subjects for serial art pieces and at the same time creates his team of artists with which he realizes frescoes for houses and palaces first in Europe and then in the world. While the paintings are produced with the contemporary concept of Andy Warhol “Pop Art”, the large frescoes produced

I due professori crescono Manar nella culla della storia indo-europea, nella città delle mille e una notte, in Mesopotamia fra il Tigri e l’Eufrate. Formerà il suo carattere artistico ed istrionico proprio questa ricchezza d’Arte e di Poesia e la ritroverà a Roma, città che raggiungerà all’eta di 19 anni fuggito dal Regime di Saddam Hussein in cerca di libertà e democrazia. Sono gli anni ottanta e Piazza Navona è una fucina di artisti dei quali molti Iracheni ed è proprio da qui che Manar, comincia il suo cammino mettendo a frutto il suo ingegno ed il suo spirito artistico. Disegna una collezione di orologi di prestigio che entreranno nelle case di molti collezionisti e comincia così il suo percorso nell’Arte seriale. Da qui, e dall’incontro con molti giovani artisti dell’accademia di belle arti, si profila questa inclinazione per il progetto e la realizzazione di Opere prodotte a mano in numero di copie limitate: simili ma mai uguali. Nasce cosi Babilonia Arte, 5 gallerie nel nord Italia che si occupano di produrre e vendere l’Arte seriale progettata da Manar . Nei primi anni novanta Manar si innamora della tecnica dell’affresco e soprattutto dello strappo d’affresco, antico metodo per recuperare e restaurare gli affreschi. Comincia cosi il secondo cammino di Babilonia Arte e il primo vernissage di Opere seriali su affresco avviene a Borken, grazie alla spinta dell’amica gallerista Gerda Sibelt: è un successo... il primo giorno della Mostra si vendono quasi tutte le opere. Manar comincia così a studiare soggetti originali per opere seriali e allo stesso tempo crea la propria equipe di artisti con la quale affresca case e palazzi prima in Europa e poi in tutto il mondo. Mentre i quadri quindi vengono prodotti secondo il contemporaneo concept di Andy Warhol di “Arte popolare”, i grandi affreschi realizzati su commissione

This is how pictorial pieces of art are born, that become heritage of the world, printed on posters, on placemats, a true viral art that has it’s origins in communication and in Pop Art. The popularity and fortune of the original all Italian invention of the “serial frescoes” that have been exposed in Art Shows from Europe to Japan is Manar Al Ani’s credit. Original subjects such as elegant lemon plants, neoclassical adaptations, Caryatidors or the beautiful Sibylon a red background are by now widespread in all art catalogues, numbered originals or copies inspired by the works of Manar. As all artists, Manar has his own signature style that is an intense red that his team of artists calls “Manar Red”. Hundreds of artists have passed from the Babilonia Arte workshop and the very best of these artists are now members of Manar’s Team. Now that he has almost abandoned serial production of frescoes, Manar’s main activity is the designing, planning and coordination of great works, commissioned by architects and private patrons. With his “all Italian” team, he has decorated in the entire world mansions, hotels, castles, regal and presidential residences. Dostoevskij’s idiot said that “beauty will save the world”, and if this is true then we should thank Manar Al Ani, citizen of the world, for having exported the Italian Art of the fresco and having made the world more beautiful.

Come tutti gli artisti Manar ha una cifra stilistica che si concretizza in un colore rosso intenso chiamato proprio dalla sua equipe di pittori “Rosso Manar”. Centinaia di artisti sono passati dall’atelier Babilonia Arte e i migliori pittori fra questi oggi fanno parte della selezionata Equipe di Manar. Abbandonata quasi del tutto la produzione seriale, Manar si occupa principalmente del Design, del Progetto e del Coordinamento di grandi opere esclusive in affresco, commissionate da architetti e da mecenati privati. Con la sua equipe di artisti “tutta italiana” ha decorato in tutto il mondo Ville private, Palazzi, Hotel, Castelli residenze Regali e Presidenziali. L’Idiota di Dostoiesky diceva che “ la bellezza salverà il Mondo” e se è cosi a Manar Al Ani, cittadino del mondo, va il nostro ringraziamento per aver esportato l’Arte italiana dell’affresco ed aver reso il mondo più bello.

The Mansion and it’s Soul
Il Palazzo e la sua Anima
The initial project was to paint frescoes in a series of important buildings like this one in Lebanon. It’s the destination of many important personages and political leaders. The main mansion stretches in a Versailles style garden and includes an amphitheater with 350 seats. As the amount of work was enormous, we started by designing the project and deciding where and what subjects to paint. So we began working on a grand decoration job, concentrating on even the smallest details, making the most of our potential and our knowledge of art history. As the work took shape the mansion had a completely different form, and our costumer was so satisfied that he asked us to also take care of the furniture of his entire home.
Il progetto iniziale consisteva nell’Affrescare un complesso di edifici importanti come questo del Libano . Meta di importanti personaggi e capi di stato la Villa principale si dilata in un giardino in stile Versailles e comprende addirittura un anfiteatro di 350 posti a sedere. Vista l’immensa mole di lavoro abbiamo stilato i termini principali dei vari soggetti e abbiamo quindi iniziato una grande opera di decoro creando di getto di volta in volta i minimi particolari, mettendo a frutto la nostra esperienza e la conoscenza della storia dell’arte. Man mano che il lavoro prendeva forma il Palazzo emanava la sua nuova anima fino a quando il committente ci ha addirittura incaricato di occuparci anche dell’arredo dell’intera dimora.

The interview Panting a large reception room is always a great job, but everything always comes from our interview with the costumer. Before we even think of what to design, we want to know our costumer’s tastes, habits and aptitude. They are the ones that are going to live in the house, so with our first encounter we get in touch with their emotional side and their personality. All of our projects try to reflect the taste, character, habits and sometimes even personal history of who lives in the house.
L’intervista Affrescare un ampio salone dei ricevimenti è sempre un grande lavoro, ma tutto nasce sempre dalla conoscenza con il committente. Prima ancora di pensare cosa progettare inizia la conoscenza dei gusti, delle abitudini e delle inclinazioni dei clienti. Sono loro che dovranno vivere in quella casa e come primo incontro entriamo in contatto con la loro parte emotiva e con la loro personalità. Ogni nostro lavoro tende a riflettere il gusto, il carattere, le abitudini e a volte anche la storia personale di chi vive nella casa.

The Reception Room
Il Salone nel Palazzo
This luxurious residence, property of wealthy clients, needed a large reception room. For this area we chose a gold leaf decoration for the plaster frames, and floral motifs inspired by seventeenth century art. The set of pastel colors is enhanced by the strength of Manar Red, a particularly dark shade of burgundy, and by gold, which emphasizes all of the open space.
Questa residenza sontuosa, di prorpietà di clienti facoltosi, aveva bisogno di un grande salone dei ricevimenti e per questa zona abbiamo scelto un decoro in foglia d’oro per le cornici in gesso e motivi floreali di ispirazione seicentesca. L’insieme dei colori pastello è impreziosito dalla forza del rosso Manar, un particolare bordeaux scuro, e dall’oro che sottolinea tutto l’open space.

Entering the Mansion
Entrare nel Palazzo
For the mansion’s entrance we decided to go for classic Trompe d’Oil framed by Doric columns. Marble effects and gold finishing touches give an idea of Italian style gardens that overlook the sea. Large golden shells emphasize the corners of the room. In fact the mansion is located on the top of a hill, which offers a sunning landscape, and in the distance you can see the seaside. It is surrounded in an atmosphere of peace and calm that gives off revitalizing harmony.
Per l’entrata del palazzo abbiamo optato per dei classici Trompe d’oil incorniciati da colonne in stile dorico. Effetti marmorei e finiture oro contornano visioni di giardini all’italiana che si affacciano sul mare. Grandi conchiglie dorate sottolineano le nicchie agli angoli della stanza. In effetti la villa si trova sulla cima di una collina da cui si gode un paesaggio da favola ed in lontananza si scorge il mare. Il tutto è immerso in un atmosfera di pace e serenità che emana un’armonia rivitalizzante.

The Fireplace Hall

Throughout our work, which ended with the furnishing of the entire mansion, we adopted gold as the main theme. Not only because it is the precious metal par excellence, but because in the design inspiration, we intended to revisit the Empire style that mixed themes of classical architecture with golden decorations. The peak of this style is in the fireplace hall, with decorated ceilings, walnut chests and neoclassical decoration. Marble columns and gold capitals create an atmosphere of refined elegance that makes the home valuable for the great artistic quality of the subjects.
In Tutta la nostra opera, che si è conclusa poi con la cura dell’intero arredo del palazzo, abbiamo tenuto come tema principale l’oro. Non solo perché è il metallo prezioso per eccellenza, ma poiché nell’ispirazione progettuale, abbiamo inteso rivisitare lo stile Impero che mescolava temi dell’architettura classica con i decori d’orati. Ecco così esplodere nella sua sontuosità la sala del camino con soffitti decorati, cassettoni in noce nazionale e decori neoclassici. Marmo colonne e capitelli d’oro creano un atmosfera di raffinata eleganza che rende preziosa la dimora per la grande qualità artistica dei soggetti.

Red and Gold The red and gold decoration is the theme of the large dining room embellished by the immense inlaid table, with the style of the great Maggiolini. The large red stage, the color of attention, is a kind of backdrop to the comedy of life where the protagonists are the guests and the owners of the large mansion. Even the leather that covers the chairs takes up the theme of red that is the conversation, where great decisions are born.
Il Rosso e l’Oro Il decoro Rosso e Oro è il tema della grande sala da pranzo impreziosita dall’immenso tavolo intarsiato alla maniera del grande Maggiolini. I’ampio proscenio rosso, colore dell’attenzione, è una sorta di fondale nella commedia della vita dove i protagonisti sono gli ospiti e i proprietari della grande villa. Anche la pelle che riveste le sedie riprende il tema del rosso che è la conversazione, dove ci si confronta e nascono le grandi decisioni.

The stairs are a service accessory in common homes, whereas in a large mansion, like this one in Lebanon, become a reflective filter which opens onto large frescoed Tuscan style gardens. Green, the color of serenity, is the protagonist of the deep Italian perspectives that are lost within the hills.
Le scale sono un accessorio di servizio nelle case comuni mentre in una grande villa, come questa del Libano, diventano un filtro riflessivo che si apre su grandi giardini affrescati di gusto toscano. Il verde, colore che da serenità , è il protagonista di profonde prospettive italiane che si perdono fra le colline.

One other area of more relaxed conversation is in the Florentine lounge. The damask sofas are competing with floral decorations illuminated by a cascade of Bohemia crystal. The atmosphere of the green gardens of Florence is relaxed in the themes of beige and pink. To further enrich the environment, golden frames continue the main theme of the furniture. Rich silk curtains drape the windows to darken them and create a warm atmosphere of an alcove where walnut wood is used to highlight the exquisite decor of the walls.
Un altra area di conversazione più rilassata è quella del salotto fiorentino. I Tessuti damascati dei divani fanno a gara con decori floreali illuminati da una cascata di cristallo di Boemia. L’atmosfera dei verdi giardini fiorentini si rilassa nei temi dei beige e dei rosa. Ancora ad impreziosire l’ambiente le cornici oro che continuano il tema principale dell’arredo. Ricchissimi tendaggi in seta con panneggi raccolti oscurano le vetrate a creare un calda atmosfera di alcova dove il legno di noce nazionale è usato per sottolineare i preziosi decori delle pareti.

Another great lounge of Arabic flavor where the walls become more sober to emphasize the valuable niches frescoed with floral decorations ... other main colors are gold, red and a touch of china blue. A large urn in the center of the lounge welcomes guests with the traditional friendship tea.
Un altro grande lounge di sapore arabeggiante dove le pareti diventano piÚ sobrie a sottolineare le preziose nicchie affrescate con decori floreali ...sempre protagonisti sono l’oro, il rosso e un tocco di blu di cina. Un grande samovar nel centro del lounge accoglie gli ospiti con il tradizionale te dell’amicizia.

This project in Kuwait is a wedding palace commissioned by a wealthy patron of great artistic sensibility. The project also has a social meaning, it’s a gift to the city, but especially to the citizens, where they have traditional ritual celebrations for Arabic weddings. As great lover of Italian art our client has sought to bring the taste of the fresco to give originality to the palace. With 14 artists we worked suspended on twenty-two meter high scaffolding like in the Renaissance. The very hot weather forced us to air condition the entire dome to allow us to work in comfort and be our best.
Questo progetto in Kuwait è un wedding palace commissionato da un facoltoso committente, mecenate di grande sensibilità artistica. Il progetto ha inoltre un significato sociale, un dono fatto alla città, ma soprattutto ai cittadini dove si svolgono i tradizionali festeggiamenti per matrimoni di rito arabo. Grande amante dell’arte italiana il cliente ha inteso portare in Kuwait il gusto dell’affresco per dare originalità al palazzo. Con 14 artisti abbiamo lavorato a ventidue metri di altezza sospesi su impalcature come nel rinascimento. Il clima molto caldo ci ha costretto a climatizzare l’intera cupola per permetterci di lavorare nel comfort e dare il massimo della performance.

Lying like Michelangelo, Manar is checking the preparatory drawings trying to see that the end result will be the one planned and desired. Working at these heights on a 20 meter diameter dome requires us to be very serious, but above all practical. The know-how of our artists is our strength. Emotion explodes in great satisfaction when we remove the scaffold, and our work comes to light in all of it’s beauty. Our whole team of artists and architects can enjoy the round of applause and compliments for the great work done. Coricato come Michelangelo, Manar controlla i disegni preparatori (gli spolveri) cercando di visionare che il risultato finale sia quello progettato e desiderato. Lavorare a queste altezze su una cupola di 20 metri di diametro impone grande serietà, ma soprattutto praticità. Il Saper fare dei nostri artisti è la nostra forza. L’emozione esplode in grande soddisfazione quando, tolte le impalcatire, il nostro lavoro viene alla luce in tutta la sua bellezza. Tutta l’equipe di artisti ed architetti si gode l’applauso dei visitatori ed i complimenti per il pregiatissimo lavoro svolto

The decoration theme is one again the window on Italian gardens. But this time we added a more romantic style with paths that cross the horizon as if to indicate the path of life. Large balconies overflowing with flowers are facing the viewer. Apart from the blue china and the gold tones of the central arabesque the tones of the dome are all extremely elegant pastels. Il tema delle decorazioni ancora una volta è la finestra sui giardini italiani. Questa volta però abbiamo inserito un gusto più romantico con sentieri che percorrono l’orizzonte come ad indicare la strada della vita. Ampi balconi debordanti di fiori si affacciano sullo spettatore. A parte il blu di cina e l’oro dell’arabesco centrale i toni della cupola sono tutti pastelli estremamente eleganti.

I proprietari di questa dimora sono persone di grande cultura e soprattutto pervasi da una grande sete di conoscenza. Il viaggio è la cosa che li disseta e ancor di più l’incontro con le culture diverse. La casa di questi amici riflette la loro anima, il gusto per la raffinatezza e per l’arte italiana. Una casa in fondo va progettata a misura di chi la vive e, non essendo un vestito, va ponderata e pensata per avere una visione il più possibile vicina a quella di chi la vivrà.

The grand staircase is completely decorated with neoclassical style frescoes and in the the lower part a sea cave gives light to a space that would normally be lost and instead becomes extremely striking.

This villa is located in Dubai’s most exclusive neighborhood, Emirates Hills, the area is very elegant, surrounded by green spaces and a small lake that makes the whole view fascinating. From the horizon you can see Dubai’s skyline in all its grandeur. The construction, very refined, has a classic flavor with flat roofs and a large terraced garden that surrounds it. Here too, the owners are very fond of Italy and the hostess is a person of good taste and loves European culture and followed us throughout all of the work. She requested complete consulting from Manar’s team regarding decoration and interior design.
Questa villa a Dubai si trova nel quartiere più esclusivo della città Emirate Hills, la zona molto signorile è contornata da molto verde e da un piccolo lago che rende affascinante tutto l’insieme. All’orrizzonte, grande crocevia commerciale e culturale fin dall’antichità, si delinea lo skiline di Dubai in tutta la sua imponenza. La costruzione, molto raffinata, ha un sapore classico con tetti piani terrazzati ed un grande giardino che la contorna. Anche qui i proprietari sono molto amanti dell’Italia e la padrona di casa è una persona di gusto e che ama la cultura europea e ci ha seguito in tutta l’opera. The Domes of light On the left is the large ceiling painted with figures of Roman and Greek mythological characters overlooking the ballroom. The painters treat the work with zeal and skill touching up the painting until it reaches perfection. All under the supervision of Manar, which coordinates and directs the work. Throughout the house there are a series
of domes that host chandeliers and lights. Here we have chosen to give place to the sky sometimes surrounded by blooming roses and sometimes busy by little angels. Le Cupole di luce A sinistra il grande soffitto affrescato con personaggi della mitologia greco romana che sovrasta il salone delle feste.
I pittori curano i lavori con zelo e perizia rittoccando il dipinto finchè non si raggiunge la perfezione del progetto. Il tutto sotto la supervisione di Manar che coordina e dirige l’opera. In tutta la casa poi si estendono una serie di cupole che accolgono lampadari e punti luce. Qui abbiamo scelto di dare spazio al cielo talvolta contornato da roseti in fiore altre volte affollato da putti.

This is the home of a very wealthy and important person in the Arab country, among the richest in the world. His great sense of aesthetics and art led her to contact us after viewing several of our works in the world. Questa è la casa di una persona molto facoltosa ed importante del paese arabo fra i più ricchi al mondo. Il suo grande senso estetico ed artistico l’ha portata a contattarci dopo aver visionato parecchi dei nostri lavori nel mondo. Una persona di buon gusto che, viste le elevate temperature che si raggiungono in questa zona tropicale, vive molto la casa intenamente. Questa consuetudine è tipica di tutto il mondo arabo. Anche nelle città più antiche le tradizionali dimore bianche, molto sobrie all’esterno, si aprono in loggiati e giardini interni che rendono la casa armoniosa e fresca.

With our customer Manar chose for this villa a series of broad terraces overlooking the sea. The vegetation of the gardens is typical of the Arab style with palm trees and golden beaches. The fresco of this kind is used to expand the space in the great halls of the villa with a spectacular scenic effect.
Con la nostra cliente Manar ha scelto per questa villa una serie di ampi terrazzi che si affacciano sul mare. La vegetazione dei giardini è tipicamente di gusto arabo con palmeti e spiagge d’orate. L’affresco di questo genere viene usato per ampliare gli spazi nei grandi saloni della villa con uno spettacolare effetto scenico.

This castle, newly built, is a venue for ceremonies where we built 1200 square meters of fresco, a series of large rooms with vaulted ceilings. The basin has inspired the cultural cycle of Fleet Castle includes a matrix of Cosenza seventeenth century that extends geographically across the peninsula, from Venice to Rome, from Florence to Naples. The artistic references ranging from the known and celebrated, with the Carracci, Reni, Tiepolo, Canaletto, through the brush by Luca Giordano, Le Brun and Boucher, up to lesserknown paintings by Whistles, Carpioni, Ferretti and Houasse. The vicissitudes of human life unfold through the halls, exemplified by mythological episodes, places in relation to the elements of nature and the succession of the seasons. The cycle thus becomes an allegory of nature Earth, time of the alternation of the love that moves the elements and universal power over the gods, according to the principle of Virgil ‘Omnia vincit Amor, and aims to create a community among daily life and the Olympian gods that accompanied the most famous celebrations of the past.
Le vicende della vita umana si dispiegano attraverso le sale, esemplificate da episodi mitologici, posti in relazione agli elementi della natura e al succedersi delle stagioni. L’intero ciclo diviene in tal modo un’allegoria naturalistica della Terra, dell’avvicendarsi temporale dell’amore che muove gli elementi e ha potere universale sugli dei, secondo il principio virgiliano dell’ Omnia vincit Amor, e mira a creare una comunità tra la quotidianità e le divinità olimpiche che corredarono le più note celebrazioni del passato.

The general theme of the decoration refers to the imaginary mythology, through the theme of metamorphosis of Ovid, Latin poet. The Olympic theme also refers to the context you want to call epithalamia here, referring to the celebratory banquets and weddings, to evoke the spirit of the ancient family apotheosis.

The Oval applied The Castle is a multi-fleet from receipt of the Baroque style, with four areas with large capacity and four suites of about 70 square meters each placed in the towers of the castle. The whole castle is painted with oval frames and gold leaf.
The property covers a total area of 30000 square meters, faithfully reproducing every detail in a real “medieval castle.”In addition, the Flotta Castle is characterized, and made unique by its rich marble sculptures by international artists to our wonderful frescoes.

Gli Ovali applicati Il Castello Flotta è una multisala da ricevimento su stile barocco, dotato di quattro zone con ampia capienza e di quattro suite di circa 70 mq l’una posizionate nelle torri del castello.
Tutto il castello è affrescato con ovali e cornici in foglia oro. La proprietà si estende su di una superficie totale di circa 30000 mq, riproducendo fedelmente nei minimi particolari un vero “castello medievale”. Inoltre il Castello Flotta viene caratterizzato, nonché reso unico, dalle sue sculture in marmo pregiato di artisti Internazionali a dai nostri affreschi meravigliosi.

Particolari che contano... Nonostante l’immensa opera realizzata tutti gli affreschi sono stati realizzati con un ottima fattura e hanno creato la vera anima del castello. Anche i più piccoli disegni visti da vicino risultano ricchi di preziosi particolari come si faceva solo anticamente.
Non si può pensare che la tecnologia entri in maniera preponderante in un lavoro come questo. Ancora la mano dell’uomo, la capacità dell’artista e il tempo sono i protagonisti e da tutto ciò non si può prescindere. Lavori unici e preziosi anche se ispirate a grandi artisti rimangono comunque opere d’arte esclusive.

The owners of this castle are wealthy Germans who like to restore ancient sites. Their passion is unleashed in its restructuring and furnish prestigious residences. Precisely because of this nature have demanded from us the first cartoon in pencil of the project. For this old mill in 1300 located in the beautiful Palma de Mallorca have asked the sketch directly on the wall paint, but once you’ve seen our expertise we have total confidence granted. In the “piano room” we have ensured the removal of renewing old plaster and painted throughout the entire hall.
I proprietari di questo castello sono facoltosi tedeschi che amano recuperare antichi siti. La loro passione si sfoga proprio nella ristrutturazione e nell’arredo di dimore prestigiose. Proprio per questa natura hanno preteso da noi i cartoni a matita del primo progetto. Per questo antico frantoio del 1300 situato nella bella Palma di Mallorca hanno chiesto lo schizzo direttamente sul muro da affrescare, ma una volta vista la nostra perizia ci hanno accordato fiducia totale. Nella “Sala del pianoforte” abbiamo provveduto all’asportazione del vecchio intonaco rinnovando ed affrescando tutta l’intera sala.

The pride of a bank impotant Institute of East Germany, this building has a very important historical value. October 15, 1813 Here Napoleon spent the night before the great battle of Leipzig, called the Nations Battle, that started at the 8 in the morning. The architects of the institute we contattatarono to restore prestige to this historic site which already was in dire conditions. We were in one of the great historic cities of Leipzig, Germany and the work presented is very difficult given the poor condition of the walls.
Fiore all’occhiello di un Impotante Istituto bancario della germania dell’Est, questo Palazzo ha un importantissimo valore storico. Qui Napoleone il 15 ottobre 1813 passò la notte prima della grande battaglia di Lipsia, detta la “Battaglia delle Nazioni” La battaglia comincia il 16 ottobre del 1813 verso le 8 del mattino. Gli architetti dell’istituto ci contattatarono per ridare lustro a questo antico sito che ormai versava in condizioni disastrose. Eravamo nella storica Lipsia una delle grandi città della germania e il lavoro si presentava molto difficile date le condizioni precarie delle murature.

To restore the original site so we decided to remove completely inonaci and redo from scratch. Per ridare originalità al sito decidemmo quindi di asportare completamente gli inonaci e rifarli ex novo. Una volta asportata la vecchia malta procedemmo quindi con l’applicazione del nuovo intonaco e l’esecozione degli affreschi in stile ottocento. Chiaramente l’intenzione progettuale non era quella di celebrare l’imperatore francese, ma di ridare fasto e signorilità al palazzo dato il suo valore storico.

(Www.carlsbad-plaza.com) Our work was required to create their own Italian restaurant and we have achieved the main hall decorated with a fresco of the landscapes.
Il Plaza di Karlovy Vary è uno degli hotel più prestigiosi d’europa. Qui si possono trovare spesso sceicchi o capi di stato che si godono un periodo di riposo presso le bellissime Terme. Il proprietario di origine russa con genio, costanza ed impegno ha portato questo sito ad una popolarità mondiale basti pensare che all’interno, oltre alla SPA, vi sono 3 ristoranti a tema: Francese, Italiano e Tailandese. (www.carlsbad-plaza.com) La nostra opera fu richiesta per dare vita proprio al ristorante italiano e per questo abbiamo realizzato il decoro della sala principale con un affresco paesaggistico.

As always, we made a cardboard color fresco meeting immediately trust the owner. The hall of the old building which houses the hotel presented some fascinating vaults. To give more depth and realism to the fresco we included a dummy with an old porch column braid and from here the landscape began life as if by magic. Suggestive paths are lost among the tall cypress trees in a scene at the end of summer. The date from fine antique pastel colors makes it the fifth very elegant.

Come sempre abbiamo realizzato un cartone a colori dell’affresco incontrando da subito la fiducia del proprietario. Il salone dell’antica costruzione dove ha sede l’albergo presentava delle suggestive volte a crociera. Per dare più profondità e realismo all’affresco abbiamo inserito un finto loggiato con un’antica colonna a treccia e da qui il paesaggio ha preso vita come per incanto. Suggestivi sentieri si perdono fra gli alti cipressi in una scena di fine estate. L’anticatura data dai raffinati colori pastello rende la quinta molto elegante.

The ceilings of the restaurant come alive with a crowded group of cherubs in the clouds. Further down the walls of the APS accept the fresco of a scene typically Cheka hillside village with a traditional acute roofs from houses. In other areas of the Hotel we have created beautiful floral-inspired ceilings. Each fresco has been meticulously edited and retouched by artis up to the extreme perfection.

I soffitti del ristorante prendono vita con un gruppo di putti affollati fra le nuvole. Più sotto le pareti della SPA accolgono l’affresco di una scena collinare tipicamente Ceka con un tradizionale paesino dalle case a tetti acuti. In altre zone dell’Hotel abbiamo realizzato bellissimi soffitti di ispirazione floreale. Ogni affresco è stato curato meticolosamente e ritoccato dagli artisiti fino a raggiungere la perfezione estrema.

The Classic in the Pool
Il Classico in Piscina
In Brussels, a rich center of the most important beauty we commissioned to decorate the whole new structure of the SPA from the large pool, saunas. Struttra working on a new building and this is a much easier task. Instead the work is to complicate the project that plans to paint the entire front wall of the pool, up to a height of nine meters. It will not be this height to scare us given our experience and “Mr. No Problem”, so named by our customers Manar, began his project. Big classic Italian style frescoes on the walls and refined characters for thermal niches.
Nella ricca Bruxelles uno dei più importanti Beauty center ci incaricò di decorare tutta la nuova struttura della SPA dalle saune alla grande piscina. Si lavora su una struttra di nuova costruzione e ciò ci facilita molto il compito. Invece a complicare l’opera è il progetto che prevede di affrescare tutta la parete frontale della piscina, fino ad una altezza di nove metri. Non sarà certo questa altezza a spaventarci data la nostra esperienza e “Mister No Problem”, cosi battezzato Manar dai nostri clienti, comincia il suo progetto. Grandi affreschi di stile classico italiano alle pareti e raffinati personaggi per le nicchie termali.

Arcades, balustrades, rose gardens and waterfalls INFIORE inhabit the hills to the sea of sarongs Beauty Centre. In the spa area instead Sibilla, a subject very dear to Manar, are depicted in a peristillio and passageways are reminiscent of the ancient Roman baths. The great neo-classical arch adorns the large windows of the pool. Loggiati, balaustre, roseti infiore cascate e colline sul mare popolano le parei del Beauty center. Nella zona termale invece le Belle sibille, un soggetto molto caro a Manar, vengono raffigurate all’interno di un peristillio e le zone di passaggio ricordano le antiche Terme romane. This hotel in the Netherlands has a beautiful spacious hall which opened on the floors. Although very dramatic effect remained open space devoid of personality and why the intervention of the wall decoration is made particularly interesting. We decided on an ornate gold decoration on red, an elegant choice that recalls the classic Renaissance tapestries. The fresco shows a night scene cameo in the central Tuscany. The peculiarity of the work that is visible from all floors and is in fact seven meters by three meters high and fifty wide.
Questo Hotel in Olanda possiede una bellissima hall molto spaziosa sulla quale si affacciavano i piani dell’albergo. Pur essendo molto scenografico l’effetto dell’open space rimaneva privo di personalità e per questo l’intervento della decorazione della parete si è reso particolarmente interessante. Abbiamo deciso per un decoro ornato Oro su fondo Rosso, una scelta elegante che ricorda i classici arazzi rinascimentali. L’affresco riporta un paesaggio notturno toscano sul cammeo centrale . La particolarità del lavoro è che è visibile da tutti i piani ed è infatti alto sette metri per tre metri e cinquanta di larghezza.

Il grande affresco rosso Manar è stato realizzato con la tecnica dello strappo d’affresco. Il dipinto viene realizzato dal pittore in affresco e dopo viene srappato dal muro con un antica tecnica conservativa, utilizzando colla vinilica e colla di coniglio. Successivamente l’opera viene riposizionata ed incollata su una tela di cotone, ciò ne consente un facile trasporto. Una volta arrivata a destinazione viene collocata nella sua sede definitiva dall’artista che l’ha preparata. In queste foto la delicata fase di applicazione.

H istory notes: the fresco
C enni Storici: l’affresco
The first examples of frescoes date back to the Minoan civilization, also Greek, Etruscan and Roman frescoes have been discovered. The wall frescoes that have been found in the ruins of Pompeii (near Naples) and other archaeological sites in the vesuvian era are extraordinary. During the Paleo-Christian and medieval age the performing of this technique was done very quickly and was very simple: the contours were first drawn in ocher, then the fill up and at last the shadows. Only starting from the Romanesque age the technique begins to refine: the figures are still stretched out with a red ocher outline, but the use of adhesives for the colors (albumen, molten wax, animal glue) begins. Moreover, in some cases it is possible to detect the presence of the guide for the painting, drawn on the fresh plaster. In the fourteenth century the technique of the fresco is widespread central and southern areas. Two major innovations are introduced by the craftsmen of the time: the use of preparatory drawings and the division of the work in days. The under-drawing is a preparatory drawing for the actual drafting of the color. It was applied by brush with red pigments of Siena on the plaster, and accurately reproduced the figures of the fresco. The execution of the fresco becomes the artist’s meticulous planning process that must, first spreading the plaster, run and decide how to divide the part of the painting throughout the day. With the Renaissance, the fresco knows it’s moment of greatest diffusion. In central and southern area the use of under-drawing is abandoned and the use of preparatory cardboard is introduced. The entire preparatory drawing was drawn to size on the cardboard. The lines that made up the figures were then punched. Once placed the cardboard on the fresh wall, it was dusted with a swab soaked in fine coal dust, so the dust, passing through the perforated sections of cardboard left a trail to follow for the painting brush. This technique is called “dusting” (still used today),
I primi esempi di affresco risalgono all’epoca della civiltà minoica, sono stati rinvenuti affreschi greci, etruschi e romani. Straordinari sono gli affreschi parietali ritrovati negli scavi di Pompei (vicino a Napoli) e in altri siti archeologici dell’era vesuviana. In epoca paleo-cristiana e alto-medioevale l’esecuzione di questa tecnica avveniva in modo molto rapido ed era molto semplice: venivano prima disegnati i contorni, in ocra, poi il riempimento, fino alle ombre.
but was used only for parts of the painting that needed greater precision in the drawing of the details (such as faces or some details of clothing and decorations). In the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, the art market and the change of power relations between artists and patrons had an influence on the painting techniques such as the fresco. The preparation of pictorial support is more and more refined (the frescoes commissioned in this period are, in fact, in far greater numbers than in earlier periods), the development of the preparatory cardboard and the sketch, that is the drawing to scale, the sketch was submitted for evaluation by the customer and if approved the artist proceeded with the execution. Among the most famous Italian frescoes we remember the Sistine Chapel by Michelangelo Buonarroti, also at the Vatican Raphael’s Rooms by Raphael Sanzio, and, in Milan, The Last Supper by Leonardo da Vinci.
Solo a partire dall’epoca romanica la tecnica inizia a raffinarsi: le figure sono ancora stese con contorno ad ocra rossa, ma vengono riscontrate l’uso di collanti per i colori (albume, cera fusa, colla animale). Inoltre in alcuni casi è possibile rilevare la presenza della guida per la figurazione, tracciate sull’intonaco fresco. Nel XIV secolo la tecnica del’affresco conosce in area centro e sud grande diffusione. Due importanti innovazioni sono introdotte dalle maestranze dell’epoca: l’uso del disegno preparatore lo svolgimento del lavoro a giornate. La sinopia è un disegno preparatorio alla stesura vera e propria del colore. Era stesa a pennello con terra rossa di Siena sull’ intonaco, e riproduceva in modo preciso le figure dell’affresco. Lo svolgimento dell’affresco diventa quindi il processo di una pianificazione meticolosa dell’artista che deve, prima stendere l’intonaco, decidere quale parte eseguire e valtarne la stesura nell’arco della giornata. Con il Rinascimento, l’affresco conosce il momento di maggior diffusione. In area centro e sud viene abbandonato l’uso della sinopia e viene introdotto l’uso de cartone preparatorio. L’intero disegno preparatorio veniva disegnato a grandezza naturale sul cartone. Le linee che componevano la figure erano poi perforate. Una volta appoggiato il cartone sul muro fresco, era spolverato con un tampone intriso di finissima polvere di carbone; in tal modo la polvere, passando attraverso il tratti perforati del cartone lasciava una traccia da seguire per la stesura a pennello. Questa tecnica è chiamata “spolvero“ (utilizzata ancora oggi), ma venne
impiegata esclusivamente per le parti del dipinto che necessitavano maggior precisione nell’esecuzione dei dettagli (come i volti o alcuni particolari delle vesti e decorazioni). Nel XVII e XVIII secolo, il mutamento del mercato dell’arte e dei rapporti di potere tra artisti e committenti si riportò sulle tecniche pittoriche quali l’affresco. La preparazione del supporto pittorico è sempre più raffinata (gli affreschi commissionati a quest’epoca sono, infatti, in numero molto maggiore rispetto le epoche precedenti), lo sviluppo del cartone preparatorio e del bozzetto, cioè del disegno in scala, molto particolareggiato dell’affresco; il bozzetto veniva sottoposto al giudizio del committente e se approvato si procedeva all’esecuzione. Fra i più famosi affreschi italiani ricordiamo La Cappella Sisitina di Michelangelo Buonarroti, sempre in Vaticano le Stanze Palatine di Raffaello Sanzio e, a Milano, L’ultima cena di Leonardo da Vinci.

The value lies not only in the artistic performance of the fresco work, but also in the technical execution: the main difficulty, in fact, for the artist is realizing that this technique permits no going back: once a color mark is left, this is readily absorbed by the plaster. Another difficulty lies in understanding what the actual shades of color are going to be: the wet plaster, in fact, makes colors darker, while the lime tends to whiten the colors, for these reasons this technique requires maximum concentration of the artist and a long experience in the study of colors. Il valore dell’affresco non sta solo nell’esecuzione artistica dell’opera, ma anche nell’esecuzione tecnica: la principale difficoltà infatti dell’affrescatore nel realizzare questa tecnica sta nel fatto che non permette ripensamenti: una volta lasciato un segno di colore, questo verrà immediatamente assorbito dall’intonaco. Un’altra difficoltà consiste nel capire quale sarà la tonalità effettiva del colore: l’intonaco bagnato, infatti, rende le tinte più scure, mentre la calce tende a sbiancare i colori, per tali motivazioni questa tecnica richiede al suo esecutore massima concentrazione e lunga esperienza specie nello studio del colore.
