English Courses Our General English courses help you improve your English by focusing on grammatical, lexical and functional concepts in a variety of communicative contexts while utilising all four skills. The courses aim to give you confidence in communicating in an English speaking environment and enable you to deal with situations from the social and educational environment to the workplace. These courses can be taken on its own full time or with a combination of other courses e.g. IELTS, FCE or CAE Preparation or English Teaching Methodology.

Prepare and get ready for university life Pre-sessional
International Academic Year
The aim of this course is to provide students with the necessary skills required to gain access to and cope with academic life within a UK university. The course consists of General English, IELTS preparation and Academic skills development. Each part of the course is assessed internally by means of exams, presentations and coursework.
The 36 week Academic Year course consists of 15 hours a week of General English and 6 hours a week of Academic English. The course is designed for those who wish to study in the UK. The academic part of the course focuses on skills such as writing reports, giving presentations, listening to lectures and taking notes, attending meetings, and adopts a similar communicative, task-based approach to the General English course but with a focus on the type of English expected in colleges, universities and the international workplace.

We are working with a wide-range of companies in all sectors and professions to provide stimulating and challenging positions. Students on LILA* internship programmes will improve existing English language skills in a professional environment. Internships also enhance employment opportunities within an increasingly competitive employment market and increase awareness of international business and practical work experience. LILA* internships involve 4 weeks General English Plus at LILA* followed by a 3-9 month unpaid internship.

Music
Liverpool has more theatres, museums and galleries than any other city outside of London. Visit the Walker Art Gallery, the National Gallery of the North, The Museum Of Liverpool and the Tate Liverpool situated at the Albert Dock. Liverpool is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The city achieved the status in 2004 because of its impressive waterfront and rich maritime history. Take a trip on the famous Mersey Ferries and visit the Albert Dock, which alone has the largest collection of Grade I listed buildings in the UK.
Liverpool has a rich musical heritage and is officially the World Capital of Pop. This began with The Beatles, and many local attractions commemorate the story of the most successful band of all time. ‘The Beatles Story’ is a brilliant tour through the Beatles lives. There is also the ‘Magical Mystery Tour’, a guided tour that will take you to the most important places associated with the band.

Liverpool is host to many music festivals staged in the city throughout the year, as well as offering classical music at the Liverpool Philharmonic Hall courtesy of the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra. The Liverpool Echo Arena is an awardwinning building located alongside the Grade I listed Albert Dock complex and World Heritage Site. It opened in January 2008 and has since played host to a string of international events, including the MTV Europe Music Awards, BBC Sports Personality of the Year and Cirque du Soleil and concert performances.

FLIGHTS & TRANSFERS Liverpool John Lennon Airport is around eight miles from the city centre and offers flights from various parts of Europe. A low-cost bus service from the airport to the city centre is operated by Merseytravel. New worldwide flights from Liverpool John Lennon Airport are available with KLM. KLM now connects Liverpool John Lennon Airport (LPL) 650 destinations around the globe via Amsterdam’s Schipol Airport. Manchester Airport, is around 45 minutes from Liverpool. If you would like a stress free journey you can book a transfer with us at an additional cost. We have a great transfer team who collect you from the airport or train station and take you to your accommodation. They will make you feel comfortable and safe! ARRIVING AT LILA* You can find us next to the Hard Days Night Hotel on North John Street and Matthew Street. We’re also across the road from the Liverpool ONE shopping centre and Boodles, the jewellery shop is on the same crossroads. Look for the building with the green front which says “New Barratt House”. You’ll be greeted by the concierge in the foyer and you need to go up the stairs (or take the lift!) to the first floor. You can expect it to take around 5 minutes to walk from Central Station, Moorfields Station, Paradise Street and Queens Square.
