U.S. WORLD CUP MODERN PENTATHLON 30 COUNTRIES TO COMPETE February 23 – 27, 2011 The Palm Springs/Rancho Mirage event marks the first U.S.A World Cup Pentathlon on U.S. soil since 1999. Organizers are expecting 150 athletes from 30 countries, with all current Olympians holding gold, silver, and bronze medals in the sport attending. The first two days of competition are the women’s and the men’s semifinals. The top 36 women and the top 36 men from the semifinals advance to the finals on Saturday and Sunday. World attention is riveted on this event as it is the first world cup to use the new laser shooting system. Modern pentathlon comprises five disciplines: épée fencing, swimming, equestrian show jumping, and a

combined run/shoot event. The event will be headquartered at the Agua Caliente Casino Resort Spa in Rancho Mirage, which will also host to the opening ceremony. Events will be held at the Equestrian Center International in Rancho Mirage; the Palm Springs Swim Center, and the Xavier College Preparatory High School in Palm Desert. “Hosting the World Cup in Palm Springs, Palm Desert and Rancho Mirage allows us to firmly create a home-court stop leading up to the Olympic Games of 2012,” said Rob Stull, managing director of USA Pentathlon and three-time Olympian. Cabot’s Pueblo Museum A unique Hopi inspired Pueblo hand-made by Cabot Yerxa over 24 years. This multi-level building includes 35 rooms, 150 windows and 65 doors, all crafted from found materials.
