Time to pack your leather and polish those black boots International Ms Leather Contest By Edward Lee

f you need an excuse to go to San Francisco, and who needs an excuse, it’s time for the 24th annual International Ms Leather contest and 12th annual Ms Bootblack contest weekend, April 15-18. Touted as the world’s largest event for Leatherwomen, and those that love them, this is a weekend packed full of everything from Burlesque to temptation to celebrity charity auction to speed dating to… You get the picture. International Ms Leather organizers pride themselves on creating a diverse event for everyone regardless of age, religion, race, physical ability, sexual orientation, relationship status, or gender - if you love leather, you will love this event. On Thursday, April 15, you could still be doing your taxes or, Speed Tricking. Let Speed Tricking diva, Peggy Sue, run you through this fast-paced mixer to put you face-to-face with the people most likely to make your motor run. It’s like Speed Dating, but much kinkier. Not your thing? Then how about, sitting back and enjoying, “Seduction - An Evening of Burlesque, Strip Tease, Lap Dancing, Drag and More!” Seduction is a naughty night of burlesque, strip tease, lap dances, drag, and debauchery. All tips go to the designated event charities. That same night you can kick off the weekend right with the Slumber Play Party hosted by Butch-Boi.com. Spin the bottle, and truth or dare should be unforgettable. This party is open to all and encourages new comers to IMsL weekend. Friday night kicks off with the Opening Ceremony. According to organizers, “This is a fast-paced hour of pomp and circumstance where you will meet this year’s contestants, judges, current titleholders and visiting dignitaries. This ceremony is highlighted by our Parade of Colors from the Clubs and Organizations participating in IMsL 2010. Come early to get a good seat because we go straight into the Charity Celebrity Auction. This is your opportunity to bid on the rights to negotiate a scene with one of twenty of IMsL’s favorite personalities including: presenters, judges, entertainers, titleholders and VIP guests. You could win a weekend of leather care from a celebrated bootblack, a cocktail hour with the leatherati, or a chance for one-on-one instruction - in just about anything - with a seasoned expert if you win in this frenzied hour of high-paced bidding.”

Friday and Saturday as International Ms Bootblack contestants compete to earn your vote. Sunday Brunch enjoy breakfast and a slideshow of the weekend’s events, and meet the new IMsL and IMsBB. Betty Dodson PhD, artist, author, and sexologist, will be the keynote speaker on Sunday. Dodson has been one of the princepal voices for women’s sexual pleasure and health for over three decades. According to organizers, Dodson had the first one-woman show of erotic art in ’68 in nyc followed by three others. She produced and presented the first feminist slide show of vulvas at the 1973 NOW Sexuality Conference in New York where she introduced the electric vibrator as a pleasure device. For 23 years, she ran Bodysex groups where women learned about their bodies and orgasms through the practice of selfstimulation. Her first book, Liberating Masturbation: A Meditation on Selflove (’74) became a feminist classic. Sex for One (’87) sold over a million copies. Orgasms for Two (’02) embraces partner sex. She has authored numerous articles on the subject of women’s sexual pleasure and orgasm. Wrote/produced/directed 5 erotic sex educational videos on her ground breaking handson teaching. In 1994, she earned a PhD in clinical sexology. Dodson has presented at conferences for sexual scientists, therapists, and psychologists. She has been interviewed on prime time cable television shows from the ‘70s to present including The History Channel; The O’Reilly Factor; The View; BET; HBO; Donahue; Sally Jesse Raphael; Geraldo; Joan Rivers; etc. She has been featured in national publications such as O Magazine, Glamour, Cosmopolitan, Vogue, Marie Claire, Playboy; Playgirl, Penthouse, Ms. Magazine, Bust, Time Out NY, LA and Chicago. Later on in the day, wind down at The Eagle Tavern, a leather bar locals call home. A silent charity auction will feature a 20-year old back issue of Drummer Magazine, a signed copy of the first IMsL poster, a

All weekend long IMsL will have many local and national leather groups hosting some kickass soirees running from morning until late at night. The weekend also includes play spaces, workshops and shopping. This year’s the International Ms Leather & Ms Bootblack weekend beneficiaries are: The Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual Transgender Historical Society, which collects, preserves, and interprets the history of GLBT people and the communities that support them. IMsL’s donations to the GLBT Historical Society will be restricted to the preservation of Mr. Marcus’s collection. National Coalition for Sexual Freedom is a national organization committed to creating a political, legal, and social environment in the United States that advances equal rights of consenting adults who practice forms of alternative sexual expression. NCSF is primarily focused on the rights of consenting adults in the SM-leather-fetish, swing, and polyamory communities, who often face discrimination because of their sexual expression. The Leather Archives & Museum compiles and maintains the history of the leather lifestyle and related lifestyles [including but not limited to the Gay and Lesbian communities], and memorabilia for historical, educational and research purposes. The IMsL and IMsBB Title Holder Travel Fund provides a quarterly stipend to each of the current titleholders. These funds will offer financial assistance to the titleholders for approved expenses such as travel and lodging for IMsL and IMsBB related travel to events during their title year. Bears of the Old Pueblo venture in for beer bust Group returns to original home bar “It ranges from skinny to generously-sized, from smooth to covered with hair, from clean-shaven to ZZ-Top-style beards, but in general it’s more an attitude of acceptance of others as they are. After the Celebrity Auction you can fall in with the Uniform Party. Besides the hot women in uniform, this exciting event will feature fun new games like “Survive the Drill Instructor” and “Learn to Blouse Those BDU’s”, as well as a Uniform Contest, complete with prizes. Or, be tempted with Temptation, a dance party like you’ve never seen. On Saturday, before the contests begin, roast the outgoing titleholders IMsL 2009 Lamalani and IMsBB 2009 Pony. Then let the contests begin! A steamy opening number featuring leatherwomen from all over, and special guest emcees who will keep the night going. Contestant interviews, speeches, pop questions, hot wear and the perennial audience favorite, fantasies.

ucson – Gone for several years, the Bears of the Old Pueblo have returned home to the Venture-N. Every 4th Saturday, you can join the non-profit social group for cold beer and hot chili on the Venture-N’s sunny back patio, which is where it all began for the bruins in the fall of 1992.

Besides the 4th Saturday Venture-N beer bust, the Bears have monthly meetings which include a social hour and a meal, often a pot luck, which are held the second Friday of every month at the Ward VI offices, 3202 E 1st St, at 6:30 pm. There are also a variety of monthly and seasonal events including dinners out, game nights, movie nights, pool parties, excursions, etc. The big event is La Fiesta de Los Osos which will be held on MLK weekend 2011, at the host hotel, Randolph Park Hotel and Suites. Over 400 Bears from around the country, Canada and Mexico migrate to sunny Tucson to attend this event. For the beer busts, Drafts of beer and soda are just $1 and pitchers are only $2.50. Bowls of the bears’ famous chili are just $2. And if that wasn’t enough to lure you out of hibernation, 100% of the proceeds go to a non-profit. “We hope for 30-40 people at least and hopefully get a lot
