Reba at Acrisure Arena
Story and Photos by Pat Krause Big night at the Acrisure Arena on Friday, March 30th. Three groups of entertainers brought a whole house of music fans—the Isaacks, Terri Clark, and the headliner Reba McEntire. Everyone
was excited to hear the iconic Reba. She has been dubbed the Queen of Country for her many CMA awards and millions of records sold. The Acrisure Arena was filled with barely an empty seat anywhere. Even a Reba lookalike at the entrance
looked very much like her.
The first group was a southern Blue Grass Gospel family group, The Isaacks. They were founded by mother Lily, who, along with her children, brings this unique type of music for enjoyment. Their
first song was, Work It Out followed by Humpty Dumpty. The sound was especially great when they all sang together. Lily’s daughters, Becky and Sonya, and son Ben and Grandson Levi make up most of this award-winning group.
Songstress Teri Cark followed with songs, Gasoline, Emotional Girl, every time I cry, If I Were You, and many of her hit songs. Terri came out with her signature Black Hat

Groundbreaking Artists Return With Outstanding Releases
The long-awaited return from The Zombies as well as acclaimed singer-songwriter Peter Case and indie rock heroes The New Pornographers make for an especially strong field of essential new albums released on March 31, 2023.
Artist: The Zombies
Title: Different Game (Cooking Vinyl)
You might like if you enjoy: The Zombies, Colin Blunstone, Rod Argent
Tell me more: The Zombies have returned with the magnificent Different Game, the groundbreaking British band’s first new studio album since 2015’s Still Got That Hunger. Delayed by the arrival of the global pandemic — the band members had decided from the beginning of the process in
2019 after their well-deserved induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame that they would record the songs together to capture the energy of their legendary live performances — Different Game continues to find the quintet conjuring up the magic of their past performances while embracing the future. The 10-track album’s stellar track listing spans from the opening title track (a gorgeous Baroque pop gem that includes a lush instrumental finale), jazzy “Dropped Reeling & Stupid” (the latter bolstered by a particularly sophisticated organ solo from Rod Argent that segues into a marvelous turn showcasing guitarist Tom Toomey), the lovely ballad “You Could Be My Love” featuring Colin Blunstone’s amazing tenor vocals and sumptuous
rocker “Merry-Go-Round.”
Other standouts include the shimmering “Love You,” the rousing blues-rocker “Got To Move On” and tender closer “The Sun Will Rise Again.”
The work of the Q Strings quartet (Laura Stanford, Ellie Stanford, Amy Stanford and Jess Cox) adds magic across the marvelous disc, notably on the aforementioned title track and “I Want To Fly,” the latter where they provide the full accompaniment for Blunstone. Information: thezombiesmusic.com.
Artist: Peter Case
Title: Doctor Moan (Sunset Blvd. Records) You might like if you enjoy: Warren Zevon, The Waterboys, Dr. John Tell me more: Peter Case
is back. The legendary singersongwriter’s 16th solo album Doctor Moan finds the top-tier artist tackling original material anchored by his piano playing — this is a departure from Case fronting modern rock favorites The Plimsouls in the late 1970s and ‘80s and subsequent solo career marked by more guitarfocused material. To be sure the 11-track Doctor Moan is a rich tapestry that serves the New York native’s literate and compelling songcraft fully at every turn. Standouts abound on the 11-track disc; the uptempo jazz-tinged “Downtown Nowhere’s Blues,” absolutely beautiful “Eyes of Love,” Dr. John-flavored “The Flying Crow” and reflective “Girl In Love With A Shadow”; “Wandering Days” is the lone guitar-anchored track and the breezy cut is another highlight on the album. In addition to his outstanding piano and acoustic guitar work, Case utilizes harmonica (in spades on the bluesy “Give Me Five Minutes More”) and mellotron; the album also features the talents of Jonny Flaugher on electric and acoustic base, and Chris Joyner on B-3 organ. Information: PeterCase.com.
Artist: The New Pornographers
Title: Continue as a Guest (Merge Records)
You might like if you enjoy: Neko Case, Kathryn Calder, Beck, Gorillaz
Tell me more: The New Pornographers have returned with another batch of far-flung and stellar songs, proving ambition and evolution works wonders for the Canadian collective. Bandleader A.C. Newman along with Neko Case, Kathryn Calder, Todd Fancy, John Collins and Joe Seiders are exploring new sonic territory across their ninth studio album, having added a bit of rawness to their well-known melodic pop sheen (just listen to the urgent “Pontius Pilate’s Home Movies”). The challenges of recording during the pandemic may have elevated the magic here; just listen to the soaring “Bottle Episodes,” probing experimental-tinged title track, sweeping “Really Really Light,” opulent “Marie And The Undersea” and genredefying “Cat And Mouse With The Light.” Information: TheNewPornographers.com.

The Medal of Honor Marks its 160th Anniversary
By Desert Star StaffLast week 160 years ago, President Abraham Lincoln presented the first Congressional Medal of Honor, the nation’s highest award for bravery and sacrifice on the battlefield.
Last week, leaders from the National Medal of Honor Foundation gathered in Washington, D.C., to build on the legacy and support a proposal to build a monument in the nation’s capital.
Army Lt. Col. Will Swenson is a medal recipient from Carmel, who now sits on the Foundation’s board of directors. He said we are all capable of giving back.
“The character traits that make up a recipient can be transferred directly to everyday lives,” Swenson explained. “Working with the team, selfless sacrifice, altruism, understanding that we have a greater cause to give back to in the form of our country.”
A bill will be introduced next month to clear the way for the monument to be built on the central part of the National Mall in D.C. A museum and leadership institute are under construction in Arlington, Texas, and are slated to open in March 2025.
Chris Cassidy, president and CEO of the Medal of Honor Museum and Foundation, said the museum would bring recipients’ stories of heroism and bravery to life for generations to come.

Olympian Chloe Kim is running a workshop
By Desert Star StaffTwo-time Olympic gold medalist Chloe Kim was onsite Thursday, March 30th, to present a $20,000 check to the local YMCA chapter, Weingart East LA, on behalf of Mucinex for their Small but Mighty Campaign*. During her visit to the YMCA, she shared some health, wellness, and fitness tips with local teenage girls from the Y, showing them how she prepares for a day on the slopes. The youth members had the opportunity to ask her everything from why she decided to be a snowboarder, what it felt like to win a gold medal, how she overcame challenging obstacles and her favorite makeup.
Chloe partnered with Mucinex as an individual who is known for her small but mighty stature and someone who prioritizes their health and wellness. She’s working with the brand to educate others on the importance of caring for yourself during cold & flu season.
*Mucinex launched their Small but Mighty Campaign in February to mirror the powerful multi-symptom relief that Mucinex Fast-Max offers with a tiny dose and remind consumers they can treat their cold & flu with less liquid per dose. Bringing this “small but mighty” idea to life, Mucinex has donated $100,000 in total to small YMCAs across the country doing mighty work in their communities. This donation, spread across five Ys, will support the organizations’ youth sports programs – from swimming and soccer to baseball, gymnastics, day camps, and winter sports.
ESOTERIC ASTROLOGY AS NEWS FOR WEEK APRIL 5 – 11, 2023
A FESTIVAL WEEK AHEAD!
We have a week of converging festivals – three religious festivals, three developmental levels of humanity (Jewish Passover, Christian/ Easter, Esoteric/Aquarian Aries Festival at the full moon) – all happening during the same week, two of them on the same day! The Wisdom Teachings tell us when the different religious festivals occur simultaneously, it is the foundation for the new world Aquarian religion (spirituality).
All religious festivals are based on the movement of the heavens (study of astrology, a timing mechanism). The great commonality for humanity worldwide is the sky with its patterns and rhythms - the ever-moving stars, planets, Sun and Moon.
Many festivals are timed at the full and new moon times when great spiritual energies are released into the earth. During Spring, three major festivals occur at full moon times (Aries, Taurus, Gemini). Following these three, nine minor festivals/full moons (all spiritual events) unfold, their purpose being to “lead and direct humanity into a prolonged united spiritual effort” throughout the year.
On Wednesday, April 5, as the first evening star appears, the Jewish festival of Passover begins (celebrating their exodus from Egypt, ending the Taurus Age and initiating the Aries Age). Before and around midnight, we have the Aries Festival, the first full moon of Spring.
The Aries Festival or Resurrection Festival, is about the Love of God, a love from the heart of God to humanity’s hearts. Simultaneously, the Forces of Restoration come into the world, “restoring humanity’s psychological and mental health.”
Sunday is Easter, a glorious festival of promise, hope and liberation.
RISA’S STARS
Easter is the key/mystery of the fact that there is no death. Many within humanity today seem to have lost their way, left without the needed help, unable to contact God. Nor is it quite clear for humanity just who God or Deity is. Humanity thus waits for a revelation while simultaneously seeking the Path to God. Easter/ Resurrection and the Aries Festival remind us - like seeds, from the soil of the Earth, in Spring, we rise up and burst into bloom!
And so...Prayer for humanity for discernment, direction, hope, psychological restoration and resurrection.
Let us go to the One whom the winds and waves obey, the Holy One. He is the Lord who watches over us, rescues us, we place our faith and prayers in the Lord, our hope and shield.” Psalm 33:18 – 20. Being aware of the subtle events in time.
ARIES: You are developing a greater sense and awareness of self, a new self-identity, as personal, political, social and inner/outer changes and crises continue New ideas enter your mind from the Mind of God, coloring your knowledge and experiences. A sense of a fire burns within, like the heart of the Sun offering warmth to the world. You feel bright and brilliant. You are that. You are also responsible for providing this fire filled with new ideas to all that is around. Are you ready?
TAURUS: Most likely you’re not visiting many places these days. It’s possible your health needs you to rest more, to be in solitude, to care for your well-being. The result is you can’t go too far from home. Do you need a solitary cabin in the woods?
Contemplativeness has come into your life and all you can accomplish is
a bit of gardening, slow walks, reflection, looking at tarot cards and hiding from outer events and people. You’re still a leader, only one in hiding now. Are you ready?
GEMINI: Deeper revelations of divinity are occurring, in both sleep and daily life. Here are intentions we recite each morning in meditation (which you’re welcome to join on inner levels). “Assume a new and fresh attitude of community and hold it during the hours of service which lie ahead each day. Guard with care all thoughts and speech. Call for those you will work with to help build the new culture and civilization.” There’s more. Are you ready?
CANCER: Slowly you are working and building towards a new reputation with new achievements as you oh-so-carefully enter the wide wide world. So often you’re hidden under a protective shell for shelter and safety. Often you work towards goals that offer nourishment and nurturance, always in service to others. You’re ambitious but no one can tell. You’re a leader. And you hide this, too. Are you ready to outwardly lead others? Are you ready?
LEO: Restlessness can overtake you no matter what the season. You always need a change of environment, scenery, and maybe perhaps a change in friendships. You also need to communicate what you’ve learned to those who are curious, to learners and listeners who understand expansive heart-felt thoughts and ideals. In our meditations each morning we thank our great teachers, past, present and those to come. You are a teacher in training. Are you ready?
VIRGO: You are focused on the
horizon with big expansive goaloriented ideas and ideals as high as the mountaintop under which the three Spring full moons (Aries, Taurus, Gemini) take place. You are proud of what you know. When using your knowledge with humility and Right Attitude, others learn from you. In turn you must want to continue to learn. Your lower mind, with its important facts and details, eventually turns towards the Soul’s true knowledge. When acted upon it turns to wisdom. Are you ready?
LIBRA: There’s a sense you must enter deeper into life, reorienting and regenerating like a phoenix in the fire and this affects your most intimate relationships. Yours is the Path of the Warrior, going into battle with desires and aspirations, seeking the virtuous way, increasing the demand for change, compelling others to change, too. For rebirth to occur, something from the past must be relinquished. It’s a hurt you fiercely hold onto. It can be let go of now. Can you be ready?
SCORPIO: As we grow older, our true self emerges. I remember my art teacher at Immaculate Heart College Art Department in Hollywood, telling me, a young art student, “As we age we become more of our rising (Ascendant) sign.” I didn’t understand this. But I do now. The inner essence of our rising sign is our Soul and as we grow in age and experience, our Soul comes forth to direct our personality. This becomes the foundation of our purpose in life. Are you ready?
SAGITTARIUS: You’re proud of your family, your heritage, lineage, religion and education. These constitute your very own private life and constitute your character and behaviors. You are
careful with your privacy, allowing no one to enter who is not trusted. There are others in your life who wonder if you are trustworthy. Trust is something based on truth and understanding and knowing you will work for the good of the whole. Are you ready to be identified as trustworthy?
CAPRICORN: You are always kind and careful with communication. Sometimes communication can be difficult, confusing, overwhelming with misunderstandings occurring –it’s Neptune in Pisces in your house of communication. Begin each day with the intention to think and speak with a loving heart, the Will to Good and Will to Love. This cultivates strength and courage and a great creative ability. For gardening follow the biodynamic planting guide. A greenhouse is needed in your future. Are you ready?
AQUARIUS: You feel restless perhaps. More than ready to make changes in your home. You sense an expansion of needs and yourself as independent. You must have freedom to move about in your world. It’s important to be flexible, to speak the truth and tell others what you need....speaking clearly to everyone who comes your way. New values, a shift in resources and a deep need to both rest and nest appear. Remember, gratitude gets you everything. Are you ready?
PISCES: As a child it was difficult to build or even understand solid secure foundations. Form and matter were not comprehended. As an adult a secure foundation now is most necessary. In actuality you have begun to become that solid secure foundation you always sought. To recognize it, identify what you love and value, your talents and gifts, and what you are proud of about yourself. To continue this process, call forth daily what you need in terms of wealth, possessions, a home and home security. Cover it all with Gratitude. Because you are ready.
How Does Somebody Become HOA Manager?
By Kelly G. Richardson, Esq. CCALMr. Richardson: I really appreciate your HOA input and suggestions.
What are the legal qualifications and California requirements to be a property management company or manager for homeowners associations?
If an association changes its management company, does it have an obligation to advise all residents prior to the hiring of a new company, without a vote from its membership? Our old management went belly up, one manager started her own management company and was now contracted by the board to oversee our properties. Should we have been advised prior to the board’s decision to hire this newly created property management company?
Respectfully, J. H., FullertonDear J.H.: Under most HOA bylaws, hiring and firing of vendors is usually a board decision, not a membership vote decision. That includes the vendor who provides management services. Vendor hiring and firing should be in open board session. Many boards and some lawyers incorrectly argue that hiring of vendors is “formation of contracts,” a permitted closed session topic, and that anything regarding vendors is in closed session. However,
“FORMATION of contracts” is the term from the Open Meeting Act, NOT “everything to do with vendors.” “Formation” means creation of the legal contract, and also negotiating strategy, which of course should be confidential. Therefore the change of companies should have occurred in an open board meeting after announcement in the agenda four days prior.
Amazingly, there are no requirements in California in order to manage HOAs. No state law or regulation requires licensing or any particular training of HOA managers. I have several times seen a homeowner in their HOA convince the board to fire the existing management and hire them as the HOA’s new manager (of course at a lower rate).
Business and Professions Code 11502 does not allow someone to call themselves a “Certified Common Interest Development Manager” unless they meet specific prescribed requirements, but “Certification” is not mandatory. A manager who correctly is called “Certified” is one indication of qualification.
Another indication of qualifications to manage HOAs comes from the three main organizations in California who issue manager credentials- The Community Association Institute (CAI), the California Association of Community Managers (CACM), and the Community Association Manager International Certification Board (CAMICB). Each organization
has extensive educational offerings for professional managers and issue a number of credentials or designations. Such achievements do not necessarily mean someone is a good manager, but it certainly shows a commitment to advancing oneself in the management profession and also may increase the probability that your manager is more qualified and committed to management excellence than a manager who is not “Certified” or otherwise hold credentials from CAI, CACM, or CAMICB.
HOAs often hire management on the basis of the lowest quoted fee – that is very often a mistake.
When hiring new management, even though the board not the members is the decision-maker, the management is such an important vendor that a board may wish to consider having a
“meet the new manager” event or set aside a part of a board meeting at which time HOA members can hear the manager talk about their background and experience and ask the manager general questions. It may get the manager off to a strong start relationally with the community members.
Best regards, Kelly

CA Attorney General Files Lawsuit Against Amazon
By Desert Star StaffCalifornia Attorney General Rob Bonta today secured a court ruling that blocked an attempt by Amazon to evade responsibility by denying Amazon’s request that California’s lawsuit against the company is dismissed. In September, Attorney General Bonta filed a lawsuit against Amazon, alleging that the company stifled competition and caused increased prices across California through anticompetitive contracting practices.
“As California families struggle to make ends meet, we’re in court to stop Amazon from engaging in anticompetitive practices that keep prices artificially high and stifle competition,” said Attorney General Bonta. “There is no shortage of evidence showing that the ‘Everything store’ is costing consumers more for just about everything. We won’t stand by while Amazon uses coercive contracting practices to dominate the market at the expense of California consumers, small business owners, and the economy.”
The California Attorney General filed a lawsuit against Seattle-based Amazon last September, claiming the e-commerce giant is preventing sellers from offering lower prices on other websites. That means customers pay too much for products, according to state officials.
The suit follows a similar complaint filed by the District of Columbia last year. That case was dismissed in March 2022, but the city’s attorney general plans to appeal.
In January 2022, Amazon settled a price-fixing probe by Washington State Attorney General Bob Ferguson by paying a $2.25 million fine and shuttering a program that guaranteed minimum prices for sellers who agreed to stop competing on price.
How the lawsuit works
The first step in filing a lawsuit is to file a complaint. This document outlines the allegations against the defendant and what they owe you for the harm they caused.
After a plaintiff has filed the complaint, the defendant must be served with a formal “answer.” They must admit or deny all of the allegations in the complaint and set forth any defenses they may have.
Once the answer is served, a case can begin to move forward in court. This can include discovery and a structured evidence exchange between the parties.
Once the trial begins, both sides present their arguments to a judge or jury. After the trial, the judge or jury will issue a decision.
Third-party sellers
Amazon sells many products, including books, music, videos, and streaming services. It also produces a variety of consumer electronics, such as Kindle e-readers, Echo devices, and Fire tablets.
Third-party sellers are a big part of Amazon’s business, as they earn a significant portion of their revenue from sales on the site. However, a ruling in favor of the California attorney general would upend
that relationship, putting more pressure on third-party vendors to meet stricter vetting standards and possibly leading to fewer sellers.
If California succeeds, it could open antitrust enforcement to companies like Walmart and other significant players who have entered the third-party marketplace business. But there are other concerns for those who value consumers.
The impact of such a ruling on e-commerce would be profound, given how it is set up to function in our modern world. This could lead to a more weaponized approach to antitrust enforcement, with companies focusing on their size rather than the benefits they bring to consumers.
Amazon’s response California has filed an antitrust lawsuit claiming that Amazon uses contracts to
stifle competition and raise prices. The state’s attorney general says these practices violate state law and will cost consumers more for everyday purchases.
The lawsuit stems from a two-year investigation and aims to block the company from enforcing these policies and appoint a monitor to ensure compliance. It also asks for damages and civil penalties of $2,500 for each violation of California’s competition laws.
But the lawsuit is based on several plausible theories of harm, some of which need to be backed by more complex data. These include that sellers selling their products on Amazon will pay more in fees than if they sold them on their website, and buyers will be discouraged from buying from other retailers, causing them to buy from Amazon.
Damages
If the state’s lawsuit against Amazon is successful, it could force the e-commerce giant to pay billions of dollars in damages. That would be far higher than the damages awarded in a similar lawsuit filed last year in Seattle.
Attorney General Rob Bonta said Wednesday that he is filing the suit against the online retailer for alleged anticompetitive practices that cause consumers to pay higher prices. He said the company broke the law and stifled competition for years.
The California complaint shows how Amazon uses contract provisions to bar third-party sellers and wholesale suppliers from offering lower product prices on non-Amazon sites. Those merchants who don’t comply face sanctions such as less prominent listings and the possibility of termination or suspension.
Plans Advance for Medal of Honor Museum, Monument
By Desert Star StaffWhile National Medal of Honor Month is ending, plans to develop a museum and monument for the award continue.
Numerous Medal of Honor recipients were in Washington, D.C., earlier this week to discuss ideas for a monument on the National Mall and a museum to be built in Arlington, Texas.
Britt Slabinski, a retired U.S. Navy SEAL, was awarded the medal in 2018 for his actions during a special mission in Afghanistan. He said he thinks the monument should convey a message that one person can make a difference in the lives of many.
“I just want it to communicate an idea that you’re never out of the fight,” Slabinski said. “Whatever fight that it is that you’re in, no matter how challenging you think
the situation is that you’re facing, you always have options. You always have choices and can choose your attitude in any situation.”
When Slabinski found out he would receive the Medal of Honor, he said he felt it should embody a sense of camaraderie among soldiers in combat instead of highlighting one individual for their service. While sites for the monument are still being narrowed down, the museum is slated to open late next year.
Since its inception 160 years ago, more than 3,500 people have been awarded the National Medal of Honor.
Chris Cassidy, who heads the Medal of Honor Museum and Foundation, said the project is designed to inspire Americans and unite them.
“There’s lots of stuff right now that divides people,” Cassidy said. “There are very few things that bring people
together. And this project is something that unites people. That’s why we’re so proud to be part of it.”
He added that the
museum would focus on ordinary Americans who did something extraordinary when the nation needed them. Cassidy said he
hopes visitors will be inspired by their stories to be a little more courageous in their own lives.

Some Must-See Sights in Beautiful Santa Barbara
By Pam PriceHave you seen America’s Riviera lately? There has never been a better time to explore the historic city of Santa Barbara and its environs, which are situated along a “gentle crescent of California coast connecting breathtaking beaches, soaring mountains, verdant vineyards, elevated enclaves, and eclectic communities,” according to Visit Santa Barbara. Here is a roundup of some of the highlights you will want to make time for on your next visit, whether for a weekend or longer.
State Street Promenade: Santa Barbara’s mile-long State Street Promenade is a 10-block stretch from Sola to Gutierrez streets, temporarily closed to car traffic, revitalizing the downtown corridor since opening at the outset of the pandemic in spring 2020. The pedestrian promenade has lent the city a festive, European atmosphere, with outdoor restaurants and bars expanding into streets and sidewalks. Adjacent street dining areas have also cropped up, including Victoria Street and Coast Village Road near Montecito. The city has formed a committee to explore how to make it a permanent feature.
Presidio Neighborhood: A vibrant few blocks in the heart of Santa Barbara, centered around the historical site of one of the last Spanish fortresses (or “presidios”) to be built in California, the Presidio
Neighborhood is now home to intriguing, locally owned shops, wine-tasting rooms, and restaurants. Walking the neighborhood rewards visitors with discoveries of hidden walkways, courtyards, and fanciful architectural details, such as the “Street in Spain,” with its many colored flags, located in El Paseo, California’s first shopping center. Due to COVID-19, many tasting rooms expanded outdoors into El Paseo’s spacious cobblestone courtyard, including Grassini Family Vineyards, Happy Canyon Vineyard, Au Bon Climat, and Jamie Slone Wines.
Stearns Wharf and Santa Barbara Harbor: The wharf is the West Coast’s oldest working wooden wharf and one of Santa Barbara’s most beloved landmarks, with not-to-miss photo ops, including a dazzling view of the coastline and the Santa Ynez Mountains. Explore a quaint and eclectic collection of shops, eateries, and more, from the Santa Barbara Shellfish Co. and Deep Sea Tasting Room to the Santa Barbara Museum of Natural History Sea Center, or depart for a coastal cruise with Celebration Cruises.
Santa Barbara Botanic Garden: Set on 78 acres of sloping foothills in the Mission Canyon neighborhood above Santa Barbara, the garden offers not only beautiful beds of native plants but 5.5 miles of scenic trails where more than a
thousand California plant species are on display. Native plants are showcased by different growing zones, including desert, island, chaparral habitats, and a peaceful redwood forest. In spring and early summer, the views of the gently sloping meadow abloom with wildflowers and backed by the Santa Ynez Mountain range are sublime.
Old Mission Santa Barbara: Known as the “Queen of the Missions” due to its exceptional beauty, Old Mission Santa Barbara has served as a gathering place and spiritual home for many since its establishment in
1786. It was the 10th of 21 California missions founded by the Spanish Franciscans. Situated on 15 acres, the Mission grounds include the Mission church, historic cemetery and mausoleum, a nine-room museum of historical artwork and artifacts, and multiple lush gardens.
Hotel: Santa Barbara Inn. Framed by deep red terra-cotta roofs, luminous white stucco, gracefully arched windows, and handcrafted tile domes, Santa Barbara Inn perfectly embodies the spirit and architecture of Santa Barbara. The Spanish Mediterranean boutique hotel merges classic elegance and
coastal luxury with 70 beautifully appointed rooms, suites, and dramatic ocean views. The hotel was extensively renovated and reopened in the summer of 2016. Visit santabarbarainn.com.
Adorned with flickering gas lanterns and a fire pit, Convivo restaurant’s oceanview terrace is an enchanting spot for breakfast or savoring cocktails and “nomad” California and Italian fare. This excellent restaurant, popular with the locals, is located inside the Santa Barbara Inn.

Topgolf Plans to Open Two Venues in San Diego Area
By Desert Star StaffModern golf entertainment leader Topgolf is initiating plans to bring its technology-enabled venue experience to the San Diego area, with new locations being proposed in Sorrento Valley and East Harbor Island.
Topgolf’s venue experience centers on players participating in point-scoring games in outdoor hitting bays equipped with the company’s Toptracer ball-tracking technology. The
ball’s distance, height, speed, and more are tracked, and Players earn points based on the game they’re playing.
On top of that, Topgolf also features specialty menu items like its signature nachos, topshelf drinks, family-friendly programs, and other offerings in addition to gameplay.
“We’ve wanted to bring the Topgolf venue experience to San Diego for a long time, and it’s encouraging to see our
progress toward that goal,” said Topgolf Chief Development Officer Chris Callaway. “While still in the early stages, we’re excited by the potential to bring even more play to the San Diego community.”
Current plans for Topgolf in Sorrento Valley are focused on Topgolf redeveloping the Carroll Canyon Golf Center, replacing it with a three-level venue equipped with the company’s latest technology
throughout its 80+ bays.
At the Port of San Diego, a future Topgolf venue could kick off East Harbor Island redevelopment efforts with a three-story venue housing over 100 hitting bays.
“Topgolf is growing exponentially and continues to bring modern golf to cities across the country and the globe,” said Chip Brewer, President and CEO of Topgolf Callaway Brands, which is
Topgolf’s parent company headquartered in Carlsbad, California. “The San Diego area has been the proud home of Topgolf Callaway Brands for more than 40 years, and we’re thrilled Topgolf is coming to the neighborhood.”

Notice of Default and Election to Sell. The undersigned caused said Notice of Default and Election to Sell to be recorded in the county wherein the real property is located and more than three (3) months have elapsed since such recordation. The undersigned Trustee disclaims any liability for any incorrectness of the property address or other common designation, if any, shown above.
If no street address or other common designation is shown, directions to the location of the property may be obtained by sending a written request to the beneficiary within 10 days of the date of first publication of this Notice of Trustee’s Sale. If the Trustee is unable to convey title for any reason, the successful bidder’s sole and exclusive remedy shall be the return of monies paid to the Trustee and the successful bidder shall have no further recourse.
NOTICE TO POTENTIAL BIDDERS: If you are considering bidding on this property lien, you should understand that there are risks involved in bidding at a trustee auction. You will be bidding on a lien, not the property itself. Placing the highest bid at a trustee auction does not automatically entitle you to free and clear ownership of the property. You should also be aware that the lien being auctioned off may be a junior lien. If you are the highest bidder at the auction, you are or may be responsible for paying off all liens senior to the lien being auctioned off, before you can receive clear title to the property. You are encouraged to investigate the existence, priority, and size of outstanding liens that may exist on this property by contacting the county recorder’s office
or a title insurance company, either of which may charge you a fee for this information. If you consult either of these resources, you should be aware that the same lender may hold more than one mortgage or deed of trust on the property. If the sale occurs after 1/1/2021, the sale may not be final until either 15 or 45 days after the sale date - see Notice to Tenant. Further, no TDUS can be issued until the sale is final. Your bid is subject to being over bid by the Tenant or “eligible bidder” after the sale and if your bid is over bid, your only remedy is to the refund of your actual bid amount without interest or payment of any other costs, expenses or funds of any kind or nature incurred by the initial successor bidder. NOTICE TO PROPERTY OWNER: The sale date shown on this notice of sale may be postponed one or more times by the mortgagee, beneficiary, trustee, or a court, pursuant to Section 2924g of the California Civil Code. The law requires that information about trustee sale postponements be made available to you and to the public, as a courtesy to those not present at the sale. If you wish to learn whether your sale date has been postponed, and, if applicable, the rescheduled time and date for the sale of this property, you may call (916) 939-0772 for information regarding the trustee’s sale or visit this Internet website www.nationwideposting.com for information regarding the sale of this property, using the file number assigned to this case, 22-0232 Information about postponements that are very short in duration or that occur close in time to the scheduled sale may not immediately be reflected in the telephone information or on the internet website. The best way to verify postponement information is to attend the scheduled sale. NOTICE TO TENANT:
You may have a right to purchase this property after the trustee auction pursuant to Section 2924m of the California Civil Code. If you are an “eligible tenant buyer,” you can purchase the property if you match the last and highest bid placed at the trustee auction. If you are an “eligible bidder,” you may be able to purchase the property if you exceed the last and highest bid placed at the trustee auction. There are three steps to exercising this right of purchase.
First, 48 hours after the date of the trustee sale, you can call (916) 939-0772, or visit this internet website www.nationwideposting.com, using the file number assigned to this case 22-0232 to find the date on which the trustee’s sale was held, the amount of the last and highest bid, and the address of the trustee. Second, you must send a written notice of intent to place a bid so that the trustee receives it no more than 15 days after the trustee’s sale. Third, you must submit a bid so that the trustee receives it no more than 45 days after the trustee’s sale. If you think you may qualify as an “eligible tenant buyer” or “eligible bidder,” you should consider contacting an attorney or appropriate real estate professional immediately for advice regarding this potential right to purchase.

Dishing Out the Facts on
Good Fats
FAMILY FEATURES
For those seeking to be more health-conscious, the idea of eating nutritiously seems simple. However, understanding what’s truly “good for you” can sometimes be confusing. In honor of National Nutrition Month and Healthy Fats Day in March, Avocados From Mexico is sharing how avocados – a super good food and source of good fats and several vitamins – make everything better. Avocados From Mexico conducted a survey and found that while 76% of respondents believe fat is an essential component of a healthy diet, less than one-third are confident they know why it’s important to have “good fats” in their diets.
For starters, according to the survey, nearly half of Americans didn’t realize foods with good fats, like avocados, can help with weight management. However, monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats found in avocados can lower the risk of becoming overweight, according to research published in “Nutrients.”
“Most people are aware of the Mediterranean Diet, but nearly half (40%) of survey respondents didn’t realize that this eating pattern does not limit fat coming from plant sources like avocados,” said nutrition expert and registered dietitian Barbara Ruhs. “These types of unsaturated good fats are also recommended by the American Heart Association for heart health. Eating avocados in place of foods containing saturated fat is an easy and delicious way to approach healthy eating.”
Virtually the only fresh fruit with good fats, avocados can help people meet both good fat and fruit and vegetable recommendations in the same bite with approximately 6 grams of good fats per serving (one-third of a medium avocado). They are nutrient-dense, making avocados a superfood with super benefits. Avocados are also free of cholesterol and sodium and have nearly 20 vitamins and minerals. Another finding from the survey is that while people believe fat is essential to a healthy diet, one-third of survey respondents believe saturated and trans fats are associated with health benefits, indicating confusion about the various types of fats. Many Americans need to balance their overall fat intake by reducing “bad” or saturated fat intake and increasing “good” or unsaturated (monounsaturated and polyunsaturated) fat intake. Replacing saturated fats with unsaturated fats can help reduce LDL, or bad cholesterol levels.
Dietary fat helps the body absorb vitamins A, D, E, and K. These vitamins are fat soluble, which means they can only be absorbed by the body with the help of fats. Per one-third of a medium avocado (50 grams), avocados contribute 6 grams of unsaturated fats, which are known to be essential for normal growth and development of the central nervous system and brain.
