Story and Photos by Pat Krause Opera Arts held its Broadway to the Stars fundraiser at the Renaissance Esmeralda grounds on Sunday, April 24th. Over 150 people attended this outdoor night of amazing Opera songs by very gifted singers and

pianists. The night was almost perfect with cool temperatures and no wind, as the winds have been an issue recently. The event benefited Well in The Desert, which helps the local homeless and needy. Guests milled around meeting friends while enjoying

appetizers and refreshments. Denice Motto played the piano and sang to the delight of the guests during the dinner hour. President Arlene Rosenthal of Well In The Desert spoke to the guests and introduced the Staff and Volunteers that make Well In The Desert

work so well. They provide over 250 hot meals a day. They also offer clean clothes, hot showers, counseling, bus passes and more. Arlene said it was important to let the homeless know they weren’t invisible people. The homeless have

Coachella Weekend 2 Wrap Up

The second weekend of Coachella 2022 offered up so many great performances that it’s nearly impossible to proclaim a single performance or day the “best of the entire event.” One thing is clear: This year’s Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival clearly thrust more women into the

limelight. In addition to Billie Eilish’s incredible Saturday night headlining set on the Coachella Stage, the parade of top-tier female artists extended from early-in-theday emerging acts such as Holly Humberstone, Nilüfer Yanya, Giselle Woo & the Night Owls, Yola and The Regrettes to bonafide

favorites Phoebe Bridgers, Japanese Breakfast, The Marias, Beach Bunny and Maggie Rogers. Weekend 2 Coachellagoers even got Paramore lead singer Hayley Williams as a guest during Eilish’s turn. Here is a recap of writers Robert Kinsler and George A. Paul’s favorite

That same year, Huerta organized the Delano strike of 5,000 grape workers, an effort that halted the grape and wine industries, forcing employers to the bargaining table. Huerta was the lead negotiator for an eventual contract that substantially improved working conditions. Huerta served as UFW vice president until 1999. Russia Sanctions Provide Opportunities in Metal Investments By Janice Gough Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and the resultant sanctions against Russia are creating many profitable opportunities for investors. of alumina to Russia. The ban on alumina exports to Russia further tightened the raw materials squeeze on the Russian aluminum giant Rusal. The company is the world’s second-largest aluminum company by primary production output, producing four million metric tons annually. (It had been the largest aluminum producer until overtaken by China Hongqiao Group in 2015.) Rusal’s domestic alumina plants accounted for only 37% of its aluminum smelter needs last year. The rest was imported. The top two suppliers were Ukraine, where Russia’s invasion has closed Rusal’s Nikolaev refinery— and Australia. The Australian government’s ban didn’t explicitly name Rusal, but it is a de-facto sanction on the company that dominates Russian aluminum production. The Sanctions have led to very bullish circumstances for aluminum companies outside of Russia: aluminum prices hit a record high of $3,966 per metric ton in March and— thanks to sanctions—are still trading near that price, at $3,500 per ton as of now. The news is also a major positive for the companies involved in the sea-borne alumina market. This market is dominated by Rio Tinto (RIO), Alcoa

(AA), and Norway’s Norsk Hydro (NHYDY). The global aluminum supply chain was already under duress. Power constraints have turned China, the world’s largest producer, into a net importer of unwrought aluminum in ingots, blocks, billets, slabs, etc.) to provide its massive downstream aluminum products sector. In China, what is going on is another example of why aluminum is sometimes nicknamed “congealed electricity.” No one is calling dull aluminum metal anymore. It will remain in high demand for many months to come. That is excellent news for one of the companies I mentioned earlier, Alcoa The company is a primary global provider of bauxite ore, alumina, and aluminum products. Alcoa is somewhat unique in the industry, as the company can trace its operating history back to 1888. But it has a short postspinoff history. In 2016, Alcoa split into two companies— Alcoa, the aluminum company and Arconic, a global leader in multimaterial, precision-engineered products and solutions for high-growth markets like the aerospace industry. Alcoa is one of the world’s

largest bauxite miners, with high-quality reserves and a low-cost position. Alcoa has access to bauxite reserves at seven global mines in Australia, Brazil, Guinea, and Saudi Arabia through sole ownership and equity interests. Alcoa operates the world’s largest third-party alumina business, and its portfolio of refining assets has the industry’s lowest average carbon intensity footprint. Alcoa’s aluminum segment includes smelting, casting, and select energy assets. It is a leading producer of primary aluminum products (billet, foundry, rod-and-slab). In addition, it has a portfolio of patented cast alloys and low-carbon aluminum through its Sustana line of products. The company’s energy portfolio, which includes partnerships and wholly-owned assets, supplies power internally and generates revenue from third-party sales. Alumina, also called aluminum oxide, is a white or nearly colorless crystalline substance used as a starting material for the smelting of aluminum metal. Aluminum is vital to the global economy. Its prospects are bright. The transportation and construction sectors consume more than half the aluminum

produced each year. The global auto industry alone is the world’s second-largest consumer of aluminum. Global vehicle sales have yet to fall off, but China’s push into electric vehicles should ensure demand persists even if it does. Electric vehicles use 45% more aluminum than internal combustion engine cars to reduce weight. Forecasts are that, by 2035, EVs should make up half of all cars produced, so the demand for aluminum will only increase the EV market. Infrastructure spending is also a positive for aluminum. Demand from construction and electric cable manufacturers, together with these, will demand a third of consumption. It is expected to increase by half by 2040. Investments like these are great investments as we move toward a Recession, and during times of high inflation, Metals are a long-term play. Janice Gough is a Financial Consultant located at 1111 E. 5 Tips to Stretch Your Summer Travel Budget By Desert Star Staff Many of the nation’s leading travel experts predict a surge in travel this summer. It’s no surprise that after months of restrictions, Americans are ready to set out on their next adventures. While popular destinations are likely to be open and welcoming to visitors, the uptick in traffic combined with higher prices may translate into more expensive travel. If you’re planning a trip this summer, learn how to incorporate some intelligent spending strategies with these tips from the financial experts at Credit One Bank: Be flexible on travel dates and destinations. Unless your travel is tied to a specific event or occasion, try searching with flexible dates to find the best available rates. Similarly, if you know you want to get away but you’re not particular about where try looking for destinations offering special promotions or deals for travel during specific timeframes. Consider trip interruption and cancellation policies. Planning for the unexpected can help protect you if a trip needs to end early or be canceled altogether. Unless

you have travel insurance, you’re likely to lose money on non-refundable expenses such as flights, event tickets or tours. However, some travel companies or credit card providers may cover reimbursement for certain prepaid expenses. Look into what options are available before traveling to avoid extra headaches when the unexpected occurs during a trip. Get rewarded no matter how you travel. Using your credit card rewards to offset travel costs is a smart strategy, but not everyone wants or needs perks like miles or points that are exclusive to users with a single travel partner. With point-based travel reward cards, like the Credit One Bank Wander Card, the more places you visit, the more rewards you reap along the way that can be redeemed for future experiences, statement credits, gift cards and more. That means no matter what hotel chain you stay at, car rental agency you select or airline you fly with - or as you mix and match to get the best deals - everyday adventurers have opportunities to earn up to Ajpril 27, 2022

five times the rewards points for doing things they love. Come up with a realistic budget. When planning a trip, it’s easy to focus on the bigticket expenses like airfare and hotel rooms. However, you may spend significantly more than you realize when you add up all the minor costs. To plan a more accurate budget, account for expenses like dining out at restaurants, paying for fuel at the pump and tickets to attractions and events. Don’t forget fees that add up, too, like housekeeping tips, checked bags, Wi-Fi access, parking and souvenirs. Research and book free and discounted attractions. Some attractions offer discounts for purchasing tickets in advance online,

age-based discounts or free admission at certain times or dates, so be sure to look into any interests you hope to visit ahead of time. If you’re a travel rewards credit card holder, start your search by looking into your redemption options. For example, suppose your card offers flexible options by booking through a specific partner site or dedicated travel platform. In that case, you might be able to redeem points or make your spending dollars go further toward earning more rewards for the cost of experiences, entertainment, and other expenses while you travel. HOROSCOPES ARIES

Be careful that you don’t become exhausted from ceaseless work. It’s best to create your own schedule, have your own business, independently working at your own pace and not be disoriented by those with a different rhythm. Only one twelfth of the population is Aries. Everything you do has your own Aries signature and enthusiasm. Gain the respect of others working with you. Be generous, kind and compassionate. Soul virtues. Open your heart first.

TAURUS Usually you’re placid and quiet, seek comfort, pleasure and fine food. However, another side of you loves risk-taking and speculation. It’s a sense of play for others but, to you, very serious. Often (silently) you’re competitive. You respect the fiercely independent, the sports enthusiasts and intelligent communicators. Somehow you always have what you want and everyone admires you. People are curious and often wonder about you. You’ll never tell.

GEMINI Sometimes you feel anger or confusion or protection concerning your early childhood years. Sometimes you realize there are childhood realities you can’t quite remember. You sense present behaviors have roots in childhood. Your instincts tell you those beliefs, thoughts and ideas

must change. First, every life experience must be accepted and embraced. Wounds begin to heal when we realize all family, friends and relationship choices and experiences were made by us before birth. We are here to help one another.

CANCER You’re learning to speak truthfully. Sometimes what you say hurts others. You’re also learning discrimination - how to communicate with both truth and kindness. This takes many lives for everyone. You want to be direct and clear. But sometimes our communication is tinged with judgment, criticisms, expectations, and/ or provocation. You can be informative and you can be kind, too. It takes lots of learning. We are all learning this together.

LEO You ask often how is something made and what are the steps and methods to creating it yourself. You love things practical. But they must also be beautiful, make money, have value, be challenging and keep you independent. This sounds like the type of relationships you seek. It’s good to be slow and steady in all endeavors. Soon the pace will pick up. Careful to spend money only on things of value. Nothing bearing any resemblance to the past.

VIRGO Sometimes we react immediately and with force to

new situations and events, like firecrackers ready to ignite. It’s good at these times to take Aconite (homeopath) when nerves seem stressed and over reactive. This is the activity of Mars in Gemini working with Mercury (your ruler). Sometimes you begin things and then can’t complete them. This will pass. Don’t stir up any discontent or trouble anywhere. It returns with a powerful lightning-like force.

LIBRA Have you felt a bit discouraged, convinced your efforts won’t be seen, heard or understood. You have wanted to cease certain ways of living, acting or being but this too felt difficult. That time will come. You have not felt your usual sense of self. Often you can be overtired. You work well on your own, your values and principles are strong, yet one aspect of your life feels incomplete, not quite right and empty. What is it?

Four organizations educate and credential California managers: Institute of Real Estate Management (“IREM”); California Association of Community Managers (“CACM”), Community Association Manager International Certification Board (“CAMICB”), and Community Associations Institute (“CAI“). Its managers are mostly non-residential but over 300 California managers hold the “Accredited Residential Manager (ARM)” credential. The ARM requires 45 class hours in either rental property management or CID management and passing a half-day examination. The ARM does not qualify for “Certified” status in California.

Is This Manager Qualified? By Kelly G. Richardson, Esq. [Last of a 3-part series]. After selecting the desired type of management services, how can one evaluate a manager’s qualifications? California HOA managers are unregulated, with no required license or minimum education. Rental managers must have real estate broker licenses, but not HOA managers. There is a wide range of qualification and experience in the field, and industry credentials indicate experience and commitment. When she heard that Moir was being honored, Catherine Clare, a 15-year-old student, wanted to give a special piano tribute to her. Clare played two songs flawlessly and gave Moir a big hug when she finished her renditions. Moir was also given a painting by Michael Steirnagal. Arlene and Jeanie Cunningham, and Michael

were on stage for the unveiling. Moir said the honor was not just for her but for the many volunteers and the generosity of all the supporters of the Steinway Society. The musical presentation began with broadway and opera stars Jamie Chamberlin and Cedric Berry; Catherine Miller accompanied them on the piano. A medley of songs from Broadway showed their

incredible talents. Songs from Showboat, Porgy and Bess, Phantom, The Wizard of Oz, Willy Wonka and The Kissing Bandit brought much clapping. These familiar songs were so lovely to listen to with these incredible voices. Of course, there were a few opera songs included. Guests enjoyed every moment of the night and the entertainment.

Holocaust Memorial Observance at the UCR in Palm Desert

From Left: Allan Scott, Rabbi Steven Rosenberg, TRabbi J.B. Sacks, CGerry Noriega, and Rabbi Richard Zionts. By Desert Star Staff Yom Ha’Shoah V’HaGevura, known as Holocaust and Heroism Remembrance Day, is a day dedicated to the memorial of the six million Jews and five million other lives lost under Nazi persecution. But it also reminds us to commemorate the brave actions of good people whose efforts and bravery saved hundreds of thousands of individuals from death and reflect on the acts of resistance throughout the war. Yom Ha’Shoah was established in Israel in 1959. It corresponds to the 27th day of Nisan on the Hebrew calendar, marking the anniversary of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising, the first significant urban revolt against German occupation in Europe and the largest uprising by Jews during WWII. WITH LADY BEVERLY COHN

“HAPPENING” A Gut-Wrenching Look at Illegal Abortions in 1963 France

Anamaria Vartolomei as ‘Anne’ and Sandrine Bonnaire as her mother ‘Gabrielle’ in Audrey Diwan’s HAPPENING. Courtesy of IFC Films. An IFC Films release. The Supreme Court ruling on Roe v. Wade on January 22, 1973, stated that restrictive state regulations on abortion are unconstitutional. Before that landmark decision, women were forced to either end the pregnancy themselves with coat hangers or, when affordable, seek backstreet abortions by people who weren’t always qualified, resulting in botched procedures with severe hemorrhaging and a staggering number of thousands of women dying each year. Until last year, women had reproductive rights, which meant they could choose to terminate a pregnancy. Those rights came to a dramatic halt when Republican Texas Governor Greg Abbott signed SB 8 into law, which bans abortions if fetal cardiac activity is detected as early as 5-6 weeks when most women don’t even know they are pregnant. The bill set up a vigilante system where almost anyone can sue abortion providers and those who aid and abet in any way. Oklahoma followed suit this year, passing SB 612, signed into law by Republican Governor Kevin Stitt. This bill virtually bans almost all abortions except to save the life of a pregnant woman in a medical emergency. This now illegal procedure is a felony punishable by up to 10 years in prison and a fine of $100,000. The latest to join this war against women in Kentucky, which bans all abortions, whether the result of rape or incest. The word is almost abstract for many women who have not personally experienced an abortion. I, for one, never really understood www.desertstarweekly.com

the entire procedure. Still, I will tell you that director Audrey Diwan’s outstanding HAPPENING (L’événement,) based on an autobiographical book by Annie Ernaux, is a haunting story about a young girl’s desperation to end her pregnancy. The riveting script, co-written by the director and Marcia Romano, is a brutal look at the personal experience of a determined young coed in France in 1963. The protagonist is Anne, brilliantly played by Anamaria Vartolomei, who digs deeply into her character resulting in a tour-de-force performance mastering the powerful subtext of her character. She is attending university in Angoulême with her two besties Brigitte (Louise Orry-Diquero) and Hélène (Luàna Bajrami). She is an outstanding student to continue with her studies. I should point out that there is absolutely nothing subtle about Director of Photography Laurent Tangy’s fantastic camera work. One of many close-ups is where Anne checks her underpants for any sign of her period, which is now five weeks overdue. She finally goes to a doctor (Fabrizio Rongione) who tells her she’s pregnant and sets in motion her heartbreaking odyssey to get an abortion. It should be noted that during this period in France, abortions were illegal and punishable by imprisonment for the girl, the doctor who performed the procedure, or anyone who assisted in any way. Desperate, Anne seeks another doctor (François Loriquet), who gives the medication that he tells her will cause a miscarriage. Still,

she later finds out that the drug actually strengthens the fetus. Anne tries living her normal life – spending time with her friends, visiting her parents, and attending classes where her concentration is marred by the overarching problem she’s facing. Her once top grades are falling, and one professor tries speaking to her to find out what’s going on in her life. Unfortunately, she doesn’t answer his questions, and it looks like she will fail her exams. Clearly, medical relief is not forthcoming, so she decides to try to self-abort and takes a long kabob skewer from her mom’s home. We watch her sanitize the instrument by burning it with a match; we see her lie down. Although we don’t actually see this skewer being inserted, Vartolomei’s incredible acting, along with

Diwan’s direction, and Tangy’s superb camera work, we just see the top of her head. We know only too well what is going on. Anne’s attempt to abort fails, and finally, a friend gives her the name of a woman who performs the procedure for 400 francs. Anna Mouglalis’ Mme Rivière is a no-nonsense business woman. While sterilizing the equipment, she does not wear latex gloves and blows on the speculum to cool it down. She warns this young girl that it will hurt, but if she cries out or makes any sounds, the procedure will immediately stop. Again, the camera angles down from the top of her head, so we just see her legs spread apart and hear sounds of equipment being used without actually seeing anything. However, we know from her changing breathing when the pain gets unbearable. As bad luck would have it, the miscarriage does not occur, and Anne returns to Mme Rivière, who warns her that a second procedure could be dangerous. With time running out, she’s desperate and insists on proceeding with the second try. The outcome is almost catastrophic at the dorm as she winds up hemorrhaging and passes out. Luckily one of her friends is with her and immediately calls for an ambulance, where the unconscious Anne fights for her life. There is nothing in this intense thriller, which recently won the Golden Lion at the 78th Venice Film Festival, that is sugarcoated, and although sometimes difficult to watch, I think it was important to see one young woman’s horrendous experience back in 1963 and the sobering reality that

once again women in Texas, Wyoming, Kentucky and Florida will be forced to go through the same backdoor, life-threatening procedure. Again, this is not an easy film to watch. Still, I highly recommend it as a window into one young woman’s heartbreaking but successful experience of ending her pregnancy and a window into what lies ahead for American women in Republican-led states.

If you are an “eligible tenant buyer,” you can purchase the property if you match the last and highest bid placed at the trustee auction. If you are an “eligible bidder,” you may be able to purchase the property if you exceed the last and highest bid placed at the trustee auction. There are three steps to exercising this right of purchase. First, 48 hours after the date of the trustee sale, you can call (949) 305-8901, or visit this internet website, www.chtrustdeed.com, using the file number assigned to this case 22-100114 to find the date on which the trustee’s sale was held, the amount of the last and highest bid, and the address of the trustee. Second, you must send a written notice of intent to place a bid so that the trustee receives it no more than 15 days after the trustee’s sale. Third, you must submit a bid so that the trustee receives it no more than 45 days after the trustee’s sale. If you think you may qualify as an “eligible tenant buyer” or “eligible bidder,” you should consider contacting an attorney or appropriate real estate professional immediately for advice regarding this potential right to purchase. Please take Notice that if the Trustee is unable to convey title for any reason, the successful bidder’s sole and exclusive remedy shall be return of monies paid to the Trustee, and the successful bidder shall have no further recourse. Further, if the foreclosure sale is set aside for any reason, the Purchaser at the sale shall be entitled only to a return of the deposit paid and shall have no further recourse or remedy against the Mortgagor, Mortgagee, or Trustee herein. If you have previously been discharged in bankruptcy, you may have been released of personal liability for this loan in which case this notice is intended to exercise the note holders rights against the real property only. As required by law, you are notified that a negative credit reporting may be submitted to a credit report agency if you fail to fulfill the terms of your credit obligation. You will be bidding on a lien, not on the property itself. Placing the highest bid at a trustee auction does not automatically entitle you to free and clear ownership of the property. You should also be aware that the lien being auctioned off may be a junior lien. If you are the highest bidder at the auction, you are or may be responsible for paying off all liens senior to the lien being auctioned off, before you can receive clear title to the property. You are encouraged to investigate the existence, priority, and size of outstanding liens that may exist on this property by contacting the county recorder’s office or a title insurance company, either of which may charge you a fee for this information. If you consult either of these resources, you should be aware that the same lender may hold more than one mortgage or deed of trust on the property. NOTICE TO PROPERTY OWNER: The sale date shown on this notice of sale may be postponed one or more times by the mortgagee, beneficiary, trustee, or a court, pursuant to Section 2924g of the California Civil Code. The law requires that information about trustee sale postponements be made available to you and to the public, as a courtesy to those not present at the sale. If you wish to learn whether your sale date has been postponed, and, if applicable, the rescheduled time and date for the sale of this property, you may call (844) 477-7869 or visit this Internet Web site www.STOXPOSTING.com, using the file number assigned to this case 21-25875. Information about postponements that are very short in duration or that occur close in time to the scheduled sale may not immediately be reflected in the telephone information or on the Internet Web site. The best way to verify postponement information is to attend the scheduled sale. For sales conducted after January 1, 2021: NOTICE TO TENANT: You may have a right to purchase this property after the trustee auction pursuant to Section 2924m of the California Civil Code. First, 48 hours after the date of the trustee sale, you can call (844) 477-7869, or visit this internet website www.STOXPOSTING.com, using the file number assigned to this case 21-25875 to find the date on which the trustee’s sale was held, the amount of the last and highest bid, and the address of the trustee. Coachella Weekend 2 Wrap Up Continued from Page 2

made for an unforgettable outing on the Outdoor Theatre Stage. “Wolf Totem” was among the otherworldly tracks the band performed with absolute perfection. RK MIKA – Holding court on the Coachella Stage like he owned the place, MIKA’s fun pop music was a pure sugar rush. Colorful backdrop graphics patterned after prior album covers was a cool touch. The LebaneseBritish singer emerged in a powder blue suit and stood atop a piano to open the strong UK hit-laden set with a stripped down “Lollipop.” His jacket quickly gave way to a sheer hearts and flowers shirt, a crown and finally, a cape. MIKA gleefully danced around and gave his Bee Gees-styled helium falsetto a real workout during “Relax (Take it Easy),” the galloping “Love Today,” disco-fied positivity of “Big Girl (You are Beautiful)” and 1970s glam pop empowerment anthem “We Are Golden.” GP Other Friday highlights: Area favorites Giselle Woo & the Night Owls, English rockers Spiritualized, rising Los Angeles band The Marias, French DJ Madeon, the harmonious alt-pop of Los Angeles band The Regrettes and headliner Harry Styles. Lizzo joined the latter for a version of disco anthem “I Will Survive” and “What Makes You Beautiful” by Styles’ former boy bandmates One Direction. Saturday, April 23 Danny Elfman - On Oct. 31, 1995, Danny Elfman said goodbye to his beloved Oingo Boingo via a marathon sendoff at LA’s Universal Amphitheatre. After that wellpublicized finale, Elfman dove full-time into his burgeoning career as a composer and has since written dozens of acclaimed film scores. Fast forward 27 years to Elfman’s appearances at Coachella ‘22 and the artist has come full circle. On Saturday night, Elfman and an amazing band, along with an orchestra and choir, performed a handful of Boingo classics, selections from some of his most beloved film scores and new material from his 2021 solo album “Big Mess.” This was a dazzling and satisfying run through Elfman’s singularly rich sonic universe. Standouts included an amped take on “The Simpsons” theme, a medley of songs from “The Nightmare Before Christmas,” and gorgeous symphonic run through a suite from “Edward Scissorhands.” It was marvelous to hear Elfman and company run through inspired versions of Boingo classics like “Just Another Day,” “Only a Lad” and “Dead Man’s Party.” The new material was

compelling too - especially the decidedly dark “Happy.” RK Nilüfer Yanya - Yanya and her three-piece band casted a hypnotic spell over the Sonora tent crowd with alt-rock music that was sometimes reminiscent of mid-1990s era PJ Harvey. Playing fuzztone electric guitar, the English singer/ guitarist of Turkish descent opened with the saxtinged “Midnight Sun.” Other broodingly intense songs from the edgy new album “Painless” such as “Belong with You,” “Stabilise” and “L/R” were equally compelling. GP Japanese Breakfast - The moniker for singer-songwriter/multiinstrumentalist-author Michelle Zauner, Japanese Breakfast was clearly a wonderful discovery for many at the festival. Japanese Breakfast delivered a fully original and joyful set inside a packed Mojave Tent on Saturday afternoon. The diversity of the material included the lovely “Glider” (written for a video game), melodic sortie “Savage Good Boys” and setending experimental art rocker “Diving Woman.” The yearning “The Body Is a Blade” from her latest album “Jubilee” was one of the most affecting songs this writer heard during the fest. RK Holly Humberstone Over in the large Mojave Tent, Humberstone did an emotionally resonant set to a medium-sized crowd. The English singer-songwriter has collaborated with The 1975’s Matt Healy, recently won a Brit Award and will be touring with Olivia Rodrigo and Girl in Red soon. Onstage at Coachella, Humberstone created all her own music solo with an electric guitar and keyboard, sometimes looping sounds and programmed beats. “Sleep Tight,” the sensitive vocals of “Deep End” (with lyrics about her sister’s battle with mental health issues) and new single “London is Lonely” were most revealing. GP Other Saturday highlights: rising British rock quartet Yard Act, wonderful R&B singer Amber Mark, winsome Chicago pop/ rock band Beach Bunny and headliner Billie Eilish. Sunday, April 24 Yola – The Bristol, England native is a powerhouse, plain and simple. Playing electric guitar, she straddled the line between Americana and classic R&B music with a belting voice like the late Sharon Jones. Yola’s wonderful Coachella set featured selections from last year’s fine Dan Auerbachproduced “Stand for Myself,” including the Al Green vibe of “Dancing Away in

Tears,” the plentiful groove on “Break the Bough” an infectious “Diamond Studded Shoes” and “Great Divide,” which perfectly segued into a cover of Yarbrough & Peoples’ Eighties hit “Don’t Stop the Music.” GP FINNEAS — FINNEAS repeated the power of his previous week’s solo set with his appearance on the final day of Coachella. Standouts of his 45-minute set on the Outdoor Theatre stage included the soulful pianoanchored “I Lost a Friend,” R&B-meets-rock foray “The 90s” and heart-wrenching “Break My Heart Again.” He closed out his set with the soaring Americana mining “Till Forever Falls Apart” and breezy acoustic nugget “Let’s Fall in Love for the Night.” RK
