Story and Photos by Pat Krause The ANA Inspiration Tournament just made history with the first-ever call to play because of darkness. It was a thrilling four hole game playoff on Sunday where they had to add lighting on the green to finish the last playoff hole. Both players tied again in the darkness. A fan favorite
Jennifer Song lost on the third playoff hole when she missed her putt. Both Inbee Park and Pernilla Lindberg nodded OK when asked if they wanted to try to play one last hole before it got dark. Fans noticed a man atop a light pole to turn on the lights so players could see the green on the fourth playoff
hole. When the sun goes down behind the mountains and the big tent by the 18th green, darkness comes fast. Photographers were worried about getting a photo of the famous jump into Poppies Pond in the dark. The light on the green made a surreal picture of the players putting. And then play had to be
suspended because it was too dark on the fairway to see the ball and play was resumed on Monday morning at 8 AM. The WINNER was finally chosen on Monday morning. Pernilla Lindberg made her first PGA major win. It took another four playoff holes on Monday to determine a winner. They played numbers
10,17,18 and back to 10. It was the second time on 17 that finally produced a winner when Inbee Park missed her putt and Lindberg made her putt for a birdie. Fans showed they wanted to see this when the grandstand was full, and there was an Continues on Page 11
Boys & Girls Clubs of Coachella Valley’s Sports Heroes Luncheon By Desert Star Staff Indian Wells, California– The Boys & Girls Clubs of Coachella Valley will host the 4th Annual Sports Heroes Luncheon at the Hyatt Regency Indian Wells Resort & Spa on April 11, 2018. Funds from the event will directly contribute to the youth development programs at the Boys & Girls Clubhouses in Indio, La Quinta, Coachella and Mecca. The luncheon’s guest speaker will be Lynn Swann, athletic director at the University of Southern California. The 2001 Pro Football Hall of Fame inductee will speak about the power of sports in changing lives. The event will
honor professional athletes and coaches Coco Crisp, Judi Garman, Hudson Houck, Ann Meyers Drysdale and Pooh Richardson.
